You Don't Have a Growth Problem. You Have a Complexity Problem | Tyler Frazer

In a brief address to Tyler after the first day of the 80/20 Institute’s San Diego workshop, the speaker outlines five concrete commitments to shift the organization from a complexity‑driven state to a growth‑focused one. First, the team will simplify operations and reallocate resources to Quad 1, the high‑value, high‑growth quadrant. Second, they will conduct deep Voice‑of‑Customer interviews with top customers to capture authentic needs beyond sales or service data. Third, a two‑day Growth Workshop will be scheduled to concentrate on growth‑specific tactics. Fourth, a “zero‑up” study will be performed on three dream customers to model the impact of winning them. Finally, each product category will be mapped to its respective quadrant; categories that are overwhelmingly situated in low‑value quadrants (e.g., Quad 4) may be retired. These actions form a practical roadmap for reducing complexity and accelerating growth.
