PoolTogether Community Podcast #41 with Exo and Weston from Layer2DAO
5 Oct 2022 · 42 min
In this episode of the PoolTogether Community Podcast, host Hot Mike interviews Exosphere and Weston, the core members of Layer2DAO. The conversation begins with personal origin stories, revealing Exosphere’s background as a software developer and validator who, frustrated by Ethereum’s high gas fees, co‑founded Layer2DAO in late 2021 to incentivize migration to Ethereum roll‑ups such as Arbitrum and Optimism. Weston shares his transition from traditional finance (Ameriprise, Fidelity) to crypto and his passion for L2 scaling. The duo explains Layer2DAO’s dual mission: (1) drive TVL and user adoption on L2 networks through community incentives, airdrops, NFT drops, and partnerships; (2) operate a diversified investment vehicle that holds tokens across emerging L2 projects, generating revenue via staking, liquidity provision, NFT royalties, and a VE‑style “stickers” lock‑up mechanism that distributes weekly ETH to token holders. They detail recent community initiatives—a free generative‑art NFT mint celebrating OpenSea’s launch on Arbitrum, collaborations with Sparax (stablecoin farming), Saddle (voting‑escrowed token swaps), Wonderverse (bounty platform), and Guild (spam‑free verification). Listeners are guided on how to join via Discord, mint the NFT, acquire L2DAO tokens on Arbitrum/Optimism DEXes, stake or provide liquidity for high APR farms, and earn bounties. The discussion also explores future ambitions: scaling L2 adoption to billions of users, cementing Layer2DAO as a sustainable, revenue‑generating DAO model, and potential synergies with PoolTogether (e.g., NFT‑based incentives, DAO‑to‑DAO token swaps). The episode ends with light‑hearted banter about merch, community swag, and a call‑to‑action for the audience to engage with Layer2DAO’s ecosystem.

This is the Pool Together Community Podcast. Pool Together is the world's number one no-loss prize savings account. You can visit pooltogether.com to deposit. You're listening to the Pool Together Community Podcast, and I'm your host. I'm your boy, Hot Mike, aka Tim, aka Two Paws. Podcasts in a day. What? And I'm here with Exosphere and Weston from Layer Two DAO. Welcome, friends. Welcome.
Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for having us. Yeah.
What's going on, Hot Mike?
You know it. You know it. My mic's hot and I'm blazing. Hey, listen, let's— I love to start off the podcast every time with hearing origin stories. I want to hear how did you two get into the cryptos, the briptos? And then secondly, tell me the origin story of Layer 2 DAO. How, how'd that come to pass?
Yeah, I'll, I'll jump in, bro. Yeah. Because, because the idea of, of Layer 2 DAO started in, in late 2021. I'm, I'm, I'm a software guy by, by background, own a, own a, own a software consulting business, validator business as well. And ETH Maxi, you know, really valuing the ideas of decentralization and moving the financial rails of the global financial system to the blockchain. And in my mind, Ethereum is the network for that. But at the same time, Ethereum is just, you know, it has its scalability woes where, you know, we made it through the merge all these years later finally. But it was clear that, you know, last year gas was so insane. It just, you know, doing $100 for a transaction, just, you know, we all saw that Ethereum by itself can't pull us off. It can't become the main sole blockchain for the world's transactions. And maybe whales can keep doing it, financial institutions can do it. But in, in my mind, the only way we can scale this, really scale this, is through layer 2 solutions. And so like so many ETH maxis, I was frustrated. So, you know, a group of us, we were looking at Arbitrum, Optimism, other chains like Metis and Boba that were really starting to gain some traction, but they weren't taking off. Like consumers weren't really using them. Protocols weren't moving their tokens over or their product, their projects over. Arbitrum Optimism didn't have tokens at the time. Madison Boba did, and that helped them. But we were just frustrated that there was just a lack in community effort to drive eyeballs and TVL over to the L2 networks. And so the idea of Layer 2 DAO was born as a fun community project to first create incentives for people to move over to Layer 2 networks, be it through pure fun plays, be it through financial incentives, through our own token, and then through the DAO also build, you know, take advantage of the opportunities that we have of being in early, being early adopters and build a financial vehicle that takes ownership in different projects that are promising on the L2 networks. And basically create a diversified investment vehicle into the, basically investing into the future of L2. So of course somebody could go out and they could buy at this point L2 protocol tokens like Immutable X or Optimism and then invest into projects. But our idea is we're getting in early on projects that are starting up on L2s or expanding into L2s. We're investing in them, we're building a base of tokens in all these different projects. And by being an owner of Layer 2 DAO, you are basically owning a diversified fund of L2 projects. And so that's the second side. So one is let's help promote L2 networks and projects on L2, drive TVL. And the other one is let's create this diversified investment vehicle so that everybody that participates in the DAO and is earning L2 DAO tokens by, by helping the DAO basically gains a share in the L2 ecosystem success. And real quick, we started this Oh, sorry. Yeah, go ahead.
No, but how many are— so you, I know that you, Layer 2 DAO is invested in PoolTogether and I know, I know there is like a deposit into PoolTogether, but also do you have Pool tokens? Just want to get clarity on that.
At this point we do not. I mean, it's a, it's a totally fair point. You know, PoolTogether is doing a great job investing into the L2 growth. Particularly obviously through your expansion in Optimism and being part of the Optimism Governance Fund project. So that's certainly something we could look at.
I think that could be some synergies. I have POOL tokens myself as an individual and a POOL subject, kind of same thing.
And a POOLy MFer.
And a POOLy MFer and a POOL party something that you guys dropped that was sweet.
Weston's like turning up the pulley to 11. Like not even to 10, just like 11. And I feel like Weston, you go to 11 on a lot of
things.
He sure does.
Yeah, yeah, that does happen. So it's just like really important what's going on right now. And it started in a big way with PoolTogether, I think, stirring up a lot of information about why decentralized finance is so important and what's possible for the world. And Pooly did that. Now we've seen other stuff happen with, you know, stuff. And it's just important that DeFi and people who have the right intentions and the right plans for what's possible are cohesive and united. And that's what we're trying to do with L2DAO. Because with solutions like Arbitrum and on OpenSea today, you can go mint, uh, you know, an NFT for 8 cents as opposed to $150, right? Or $500. Um, so yeah, level 11, L2 22, I guess.
LTD, baby. Uh, Exosphere, were you done? I interrupted you, but you were, you were on a roll there.
He was hitting every Going perfectly, I feel like.
Well, I mean, since, and then basically Weston joined the community midway through the year this year and we, we hit it off right away and he joined the core team and he's been keeping the rest of the team on our toes ever since. Like Weston just does not sleep. He lives on blockchain time. He's always working on a dozen different things. Like, and, and like we, we cannot keep up with him. Like he's such a machine. We're so fortunate to have him. on our team and he's already, you know, helped us expand and get connected with so many more projects and have so many great ideas that we're moving into execution now as far as how we can grow the DAO and create more influence and drive more eyeballs to L2s. So that's my quick introduction to Weston. But if you want to talk a little bit about your background, Weston, that'd be great too.
Yeah, Weston, where did you even come from? Were you minted?
I came from ether, the ethers, you know, just I live on-chain and that's where I spend all my time. But in reality, I guess I did come from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and traditional finance is my background. I started with being a financial advisor. So like right out the gates when I was a young young lad of 22 or 23, I was at Ameriprise Financial, spent a few years at Fidelity Investments, and then some other firms in the hedge fund world selling liquid alternatives. So got a lot of finance experience and then realized I really like software. And so went down that route, found crypto, And literally just boring, same old rabbit hole story. Fell in love with the potentialities for like not only doing well for myself, but also like doing something meaningful, which in finance I did not find. I loved the competition, but not the— how do you say— I left the day not feeling inspired. Whereas in Web3, it's the opposite.
And then how'd you get to Layer 2?
Well, I mean, I like the Hop bridge a lot and the Orbiter bridge. Oh, you mean how did I get to Layer 2 team?
Yeah, man. Layer 2 DAO. But I love how you just think of Layer 2 as like, how do I arrive in this magical place that is Layer 2?
I connected my wallet to this bridge and bridged 0.25 ETH over. Yeah.
And that'd be up to there too, you know? So it's actually a really funny story and hopefully you don't mind me telling you, Axel. But yeah, so I actually saw L2DAO launch, you know, Trey and Axel, they launched the project in January, I believe. Or February, uh, and, um, January. Okay, yeah, yeah. And I actually totally like, I was like, oh cool, cool, you know, nice, looks like a great project. And, um, I missed the airdrop myself, so I was like, you know, but you gotta be kidding me, dang it, shoot, uh, because I was just so busy around that time. Like there was ETH Denver and, you know, and just like in February, and just so much going on. And then fast forward a few months later, the whole kind of like L2 thing was heating up with Optimism and Arbitrum and whatnot. And I had just gotten done spending all this time researching bridging and ways that— because I was helping another team figure out kind of like the best path to bridge across chains, L1s and rollups. And anyways, I think, I think Exo, I think he just like DM'd me or something, or I, I don't even know.
Yeah, I put out a call for help to the community about like, hey, we're trying to expand our token to Optimism, but we're trying to do it without being in a bridge lock. So we were trying to find the right contract that was compatible with all bridges. And you, you DM'd me, you responded to that and you told me like, hey, check out Frax, check out Gelato. I just worked with them, they did it successfully. And that was super helpful and we just hit it off from there.
Yeah. And I was trying to say like, 'cause all these bridges are going to tell you to do this, but you really want to do this, you know? So yeah, I think we did it right and yeah, it just worked well. And the reception for layer 2 has just been growing and growing, which is so awesome to see. And I really do believe that it is at least the now and probably the future for quite some time because of costs.
So how's it been? How's it been building this thing out? creating the DAO and, you know, blazing new trails, right?
It's been a trip because we didn't fundraise, right? This was completely bootstrapped from the ground up. So it was like just a handful of people initially who built the, who coded the airdrop, who built the site, who set up the initial Discord. A few of them have moved on since we've brought other team members on, But it's been really, it's been like a small team effort and that's been at times all-consuming, but at any point, just a really fun, wild ride. And fun is the main thing. Like we're really trying to have fun with this. We're trying to do things that not just are fun for us, but for the whole community. And, you know, along the side, we're trying to build value. So it's been a wild year for sure.
Yeah, definitely. I mean, super fun. And I think that's an important part of what we're trying to highlight too, kind of in the visions of what we're working towards, expanding L2 adoption to enable global Web3 citizens, right, that are not bound by borders and the busted, broken fiat financial system that exists, but One that technology can completely replace and empower so many more people. And you know, it's important that you do build a community that has good vibes and is is fun and supportive of each other while doing that. And then and then we've made some pretty good trades. So we got lucky that the DAO was in a good position from a you know. P&L standpoint. And so yeah, bright future, I think. Arbitrum launched on OpenSea today, so there's that too, or other way around, sorry.
So I'm looking at my connection, seems a little rough. There we go, it's back a little bit. How can people get involved? Because I'm going to your website now and there's got a couple things that I can't do, like I can't mint an NFT, but I can mint an L2 domain. Yeah. How do people get involved with layer 2? How can they join you to find specimens of humanity and exploration in crypto? How can a PoolTogether community podcast listener get involved?
Well, I'm sure, Exo, you probably have a better answer, but a quick one I'd say is head to Stratos. on Arbitrum or head to OpenSea and connect to Arbitrum, check something out. There might be a very sweet surprise available. Actually, yeah, I'll just leave it there.
Well, yeah, I mean, what Weston is alluding towards here is that we're always up to something and the website doesn't keep up with the pace of all the shenanigans we're up to. So today we're going to launch a surprise project to celebrate OpenSea expanding to the first L2 network, which is a huge deal because NFTs on L2s are the future. Trust me, in 5 years, no one's going to pay $500 to mint an NFT on Arbitrum. Sorry, on mainnet, right? This, all this stuff's going to happen on L2s. So OpenSea finally expanding to Arbitrum and hopefully soon Optimism is this. It's a big move, and so we're gonna we're celebrating that with a little little surprise NFT drop that's free for everyone.
So so I'm here, I'm here, I connected. Is it not yet? What's the what's the deal?
Type it in, type it in,
type in it,
type in um one second. Okay,
I
gotta what is the collection called? Uh da da da da da.
Well. He's not going to be able to mint on Stratus, right? We have our minting site and I'm not sure we're quite ready to release that.
Oh,
well, this will be out next week. So no, it's publicly—
oh
yeah, go ahead.
It's live. OpenSea Arbitrum by Layer 2 DAO on OpenSea. I can actually send you the link if you want. I can share it on Twitter. Cool.
No, share it in the chat first.
Okay. Where? Where,
uh, I'll, I'll ping you again.
Oh, you got a separate side chat going here. Okay.
Yeah, we've been talking about you this whole time. Listen to Weston, blah, blah, blah.
Look, we already got 6 owners.
Oh yeah. So what do I just buy one?
No, it's free.
Hold on here. I'll, I'll— okay. Because we have a small community here, by the time this— that's actually listening live, I just posted the link. To the minting site.
Okay.
Yeah. So alpha, these are, you're the first people to see this. There's, this is a free mint to celebrate the launch of OpenSea on Arbitrum. The URL is opensea.layer2dao.org. And if you are listening to this podcast, it's, it's going to be gone and minted out because we're only going to keep this live for 48 hours. But that's a great example of, of one of the projects that, that, that we do to just bring eyeballs and attention over to the L2 networks.
Love it, love it, love it, love it.
And these are all, um, a, you know, um, how do you say again, uh, these are all you created using, uh, generative artwork. So each one is unique and rare, um, which is pretty cool.
Oh, that's awesome. I'm minting right now. See, this is why you come to the Discord for the Pool Together podcast. That's why you do it. Alpha, baby.
Yeah.
Thank you so much. Layer two pulling through. I got mine.
Awesome. Did you? Did you? Yeah. Okay. I just updated. Sick.
View it on Arby's scan, baby.
Oh god! That's awesome.
Cool. Awesome. So I'll let you hear that.
You're an early adopter.
I really am. See, sometimes I get disappointed in myself. Like I don't have any alpha. I never like. know where to go or what to do. And then boom, you two come into my life. There's mine.
Oh man. And did you get number 8, the one with the black and white background? I did.
Yeah.
Nice.
That's a— I think it's rare. Actually, I can't remember now. It's too much, but it looks really cool.
Restart your computer, Smart Investor. It's not working for Smart Investor, but we'll get it working. We're going to get it. That's so good. There's only 1,000.
Right. No, there's 2, there's, uh, 10,000, 2,000, 22,000. Well, 2022 technically.
So what's the exact number? CBD, it's a work in progress, but you can get
it right
now. Yeah. Okay. Got it. Got it. You're still figuring it out, but right now it says 22,000, but, but yeah.
Let's just say uploading 22,000 NFTs to IPFS. Is not a smooth process. That's right. We should figure that
out.
That's right. Awesome.
Okay. Anyway, so back to your question of how do you get involved? So, all, you know, you pointed out the website has like a link, a few links on it, but we're moving so fast, the website does not keep up with us. So Discord is the place to be, obviously, to get all the latest stuff that all the projects, all the investments, Just join us at discord.gg/layer2dao. So that's, that's our, that's our smart link board, or the link's also on layer2dao.org.
Like, you know, go through the guild process, get verified. Like that has reduced our spam. Like, I mean, 99% gone. Just, it's such a wonderful tool and platform for communities and We've got that miniseries going with Hannah from Guild. Episode 3 is actually tomorrow too on communities and DAOs. So that's a great way to get involved. And then obviously our partnerships with Sparax on Arbitrum, we have a farm there. So if you want tokens and whatnot, and then there'll be staking and rev share in the not too distant future. So
yeah, so that's a government governance proposal that passed last month was because we're actually generating money now. Like we are legitimately producing revenue as a DAO through a lot of targeted staking, liquidity providing through the L2 domain sales, through share of the royalties on the NFT sales for the L2 early adopter NFTs. So we're building, we keep building more and more different things that bring just dump money into our multisig. And so what passed was that now L2DAO stickers, so where you can lock your L2DAO, this is going to be live here pretty soon for up to 2 years. And based on the number of XL2DAO that you get for locking your L2DAO, which is kind of used as a VE mechanism, you're going to get a share of all the revenue that our DAO is creating. So every week you'll be able to claim actual hard ETH that is a part of the ETH that the DAO generates. And this is long-term part of our business model, so to speak. So it's going to be ongoing distributions to the token holders.
This is what I'm most excited about actually, Sir Hot Mike, if it like, because it, you know, this is the way that L2DAO will essentially cement the long-term sustainability of being a DAO, uh, working alongside supporting the L2 ecosystem, you know, continuing to expand. And, uh, you know, like L2DAO also thriving as well, um, because, you know, that, that it just aligns incentives so well that if, if the DAO was, you know, cash flowing every week and you can come in and claim, well Yeah, who wouldn't want that? So yeah, more to come on that and we can share more info too when it's ready, obviously, if anyone's interested.
I just changed my name, my server profile to Sir Hot Mike because of you, Weston. You knighted me. You kryptonited me. And so now I'm forever Sir Hot Mike. So please help me be The boomer that I am, the normie that I am, I want to participate in layer 2 DAO. I want to have that. So I can provide liquidity. Where do I get— I get the tokens on Arbitrum off secondary. I can earn tokens. Just say that again for those in the back.
Go to Uniswap or 1inch. Literally type— I mean, or Arbiscan and type in Layer 2 DAO, the token contract address will come up, or CoinGecko, right? Or DexScreener. And you can just swap for it. It's— there's plenty of liquidity right now on Uniswap, on Arbitrum, as well as Optimism. And yeah, and there's a farm live on Barracks, which has like 300 or 290% APR or something like wild, right? So if you like that kind of stuff, you know, that's there. That's—
And then you can, you can also, we, so we work with Wonderverse. Wonderverse is a great DAO tool that allows setting up bounties that are automatically paid through their, through their platform from our multisig. So we set up all sorts of bounties for people to get involved and earn L2DAO tokens as well. So either through social media participation, through Discord participation, and it's just a great way to reward people that are helping build the DAO to earn L2DAO tokens. And then of course they can take them and they can stake 'em and they can start getting revenue, or they can provide liquidity and get APR that way. So there's, you know, basically we want to help people. build the flywheel, people that maybe were priced out of participating on Ethereum mainnet that maybe in the past have been, you know, banished to Binance Smart Chain. Yeah. Helps all. And now, you know, and now they are, they're able to come over to the Ethereum ecosystem and with smaller transactions start building wealth, start participating in owning part of the Ethereum ecosystem through Layer 2 DAO. And it's just creating a flywheel for people that have not had access to that before.
And we just want to do it the right way.
Ideally, you want people to stake, right? That's going to be the main— or staking or providing liquidity. Both of those are equally important. That's what you need.
Basically, yes. We want people to talk about Web3 and spread the message of what scaling can enable. first and foremost, and then the staking will take care of itself, like, because it's a no-brainer. Um, can you guys—
can you share links in the, in the chat just so I have that? As far as like—
Yeah, I'll show the live SquareX farm.
Yep, I'm trying to find it on 1inch. I'm not able to, but I'll, I'll— I'm typing in L2DAO for the, for the swap, to swap in.
Okay, so I just shared the farm. That's,
yep.
That's live right now. So you pair that with their stablecoin USDS and L2DAO, like, yeah, 290 whatever APR. So not bad. And then on Arbitrum Uniswap, let me get the—
While you pull it up, I'm going to use, so Sparex, you just posted a link to Sparex. Sparex is such a good example of how we like to do things in Layer 2 DAO because Sparex We did a token swap with them a month ago, basically being like, let's exchange our governance tokens, become stakeholder in each other's projects and start building community together. So we are leveraging their platform to, which is a farming as a service platform to basically create a Uniswap farm, which is really hard to do actually, a Uniswap V3 farm. But they're, you know, first and foremost, Sparix is a stablecoin, the Arbitrum native stablecoin provider. And so we're pairing L2DAO with their stablecoin on their farm that they create as a service while at the same time doing a token swap, being investors in each other's businesses. So we're tackling so many different angles here to create just so many synergies. Yeah. And we love doing that with promising projects.
Yes, I couldn't have said it better.
Okay, so you want to import this token into 1inch. Got it. And then we've got the app Sparax going on for farming. We'll put these links into the podcast description. What's next? What's next for Layer 2 DAO? What's the final frontier or even just like the penultimate frontier?
A billion people in Web3.
And on Layer 2s. Most importantly. Yeah. I mean, we said, as I, as I mentioned in the intro, to me personally, Ethereum is going to be the rails for the global financial system. And so L2s are just such a big part to that, to see the success of getting there. So just continue to drive TVL. I can talk about like, and what's next immediately, for example, to give you another example of a really cool project that we're working on. We're doing another token swap with, with Saddle. It's currently looking like it's going to pass their governance. That'll actually— do you want to do a quick intro to Saddle?
So I love Saddle Finance very much. I'm on the multisig there as well as the community Daedalus multisig and just have been involved with Saddle because of the kind of good vibes from the community, their kind of commitment to open source software, and just kind of, you know, everything that we've been talking about. And, uh, so I started getting involved there a while ago and just hit it off with them. And Saddle is a stable swap, much like Curve, um, with some differences as well, but, uh, designed essentially for Very low slippage trades between pegged assets. So you know, SETH, ETH, ALIETH, DAI, Tether, USDC, USDS, whatever. But they are big on the future of L2s, and as obviously are we. And so you know, we found some synergies there as well in. of the future. They're on both Optimism and Arbitrum, and a lot of big stuff's going to be happening. So it made sense for us to create kind of a dual incentive, if you will, by swapping, aligning both protocols. But we are going to have substantial voting power to boost our rewards for people using L2DAO. To, to get some APY on their stables if they want.
So,
and
we're going to use our voting power to drive rewards to pools on L2s.
Layer, yes.
So we're actively driving rewards and TVL on the L2 networks while at the same time as the, the voters and holding the voting escrowed Saddle tokens, we're getting a share of the revenue of the the volume on those L2s. So again, a dual play here. On the one side, driving, driving TVL to the L2 networks. On the flip side, being rewarded for that now for, for, for basically holding those voting escrow tokens and driving that traffic to L2s and then using that revenue again for distributions to the L2DAO token holders. Yes.
And if you want some more alpha, Sir Hot Mike, we're going to send it So like what that means is the emissions on layer 2 will be increasing quite a bit, which is good. It's really good.
Oh, sorry, the emission— the emissions. So when you say layer 2, are you talking about layer 2 DAO there?
Oh, I could see how that could be confusing. No, so I meant layer 2 in general, as in like Arbitrum, and Optimism, for instance, like layer 2 as in rollups or like StarkNet or just in general. L2DAO is just a protocol with a governance and utility token.
Right. But as a 5-year-old in crypto, which meaning like, so that means since November 2021, that's alpha because the traffic's going to go up. And so That creates burn. That's what you're saying?
No, good question. So it's because now there's another protocol on Saddle who's partnered with them in an alignment that has amassed significant voting power. And instead of sending that to L1, we're sending it all to L2.
Gotcha.
Okay. Does that make sense? Yeah. Yeah.
I'm there. I'm with you. I'm with you, baby. So good.
So then what happens from there? Well, naturally, people will want to move TVL to layer 2 because that's where the, that's where the, you know, the goods are.
That's where the yield is, that juicy stuff. Yeah.
Exactly. So, so yeah, that'll be super exciting. And, and I'm hoping for, you know, much bigger things too with Saddle because I think they've got some some more exciting news themselves launching.
Very cool. Very cool. Okay, so I got my Arby, my Arby NFT. I got my way to get layer 2 tokens and what to do with them. That's exciting. I got some Alpha on the Saddle finance stuff brewing, which is very cool. As we wrap up, what else should we talk about? Anything else that we need to address with this beautiful PoolTogether Layer 2 DAO podcast that we've created?
Yeah, I think that we, we should talk about how PoolTogether and Layer 2 DAO can work together because, I mean, in all seriousness, I feel like we're about as aligned as any protocols could be. Um, just, I guess, my personal opinion. But I don't know, what do you think?
Well, it's funny because we've had this conversation running for a while and I was living in delegation land where I'm like, oh, you should totally use delegation with PoolTogether in your deposit. But the thing about Layer 2 DAO is that's— it's basically you're already delegating. So you invest, you save with PoolTogether, the prizes get distributed to token holders. So, it's really already happening. So, there's not necessarily this delegation thing, although with like the NFTs that you're doing, there could be something like that, like a bonus for NFT holders with Arbitrum or something like that. PoolTogether goes wherever AAVE goes. And so, we've got Arbitrum in the wings for PoolTogether. There could be some beautiful synergies there. But yeah, what else are you thinking, Weston? What What else? What's your dream of dreams with a PoolTogether partnership with Layer 2 DAO?
I mean, gosh, we could go on. To keep it short and sweet, but I mean, we could go on for this for hours, I bet. But like, we could do something with an NFT, you know, like, I don't know if you remember, I was testing out the integrations of like who owns a Poolie and an L2 DAO NFT. Well, you get access to this channel. Right. That's super sweet. All right. That's one way of kind of aligning things. Or we could also do a DAO-to-DAO permissionless token swap on an L2 to align PoolTogether and Layer 2 DAO and then build some initiatives around Web3 education and the importance of DeFi. pool party days in your server and then bring a pool party day to our server or something like that. I'm just totally spitballing here, but—
I love it. I love it. What's a win for Layer 2 DAO? With PoolTogether, we were mainly focused on initially TVL, and then I think as we would move away from TVL to active users would be our— that our our North Star. Right now, it's TVL. As we get to more and more self-sustaining, then I think it'll shift to just the whole, as many people as possible. But what you said was 1 billion on layer 2. So, a 7th of the world on layer 2. Is that the North Star for Layer 2 DAO? Is just how many people can we get on layer 2s?
Well, I'd say that more so, Can we succeed in enabling inclusion, freedom, and decentralized finance, whether that's $100 million or $1 billion or $8 billion? I want $8 billion, not really $1/7 billion, but that's the goal, right, is succeeding against people who have a vested interest to not want this to work, which I also understand why. It's just, you know, some things are more important than money. And so if that's— so to answer your question, we could definitely, I think, align in terms of, okay, if the KPI is TVL, well, let's do something on Arbitrum and it's going to go boom. Like, you know, and we can talk about tactical stuff there, but People want to deposit where it costs $0.05, right? So make it super easy for them. And I think we'd have a win-win right off the bat.
And if we can get SizeChat involved, I mean, boom, it's a win-win-win, right? You got the influencer.
Absolutely. That's a no-brainer.
But you said, okay, so you said like, like, yes, all— I think that that's generally decentralized Web3 crypto goal is to push against the powers that be in banking and in centralized web and create that freedom. But I mean, specifically for Layer 2 DAO, what is the North Star? What's that ultimate win? It could be just number of users, number of token holders, Or, you know, I, yeah, I'm just, I wonder what that is.
Maybe X and I have different views. I mean, I think we'll be, I'd like to be the leading DAO in Web3 without a doubt. Like,
yeah. I mean, we just want to, we want to do DAO right. We want to really have an engaged community that's aligned with the incentives of the DAO. Have a lot, you know, have everybody that's participating be rewarded. and really have ownership and build really this ongoing revenue source, be really successful with our investments and, you know, for the next 5, 5+ years, be able to just build, you know, kind of the prototype of what an income generating investment DAO should look like.
Yes. You just made me actually think of the exact answer. Sir Hot Mike, to your question, from my perspective, was when a DAO is in like a tough situation or gray area, you know, which is basically every day, and they're trying to figure out what do we do here? Like, to me, the biggest win would be, well, what did Layer 2 DAO do? Like, how do they handle it? That would be the ultimate signal of success, in my opinion.
So we need, instead of What Would Jesus Do bracelets, if you know what those are, we need What Would Layer 2 DAO Do.
Yeah, for the Web3 people. Otherwise, you're just gonna confuse everyone.
I would totally wear
it. Let's add that to the swag store, Weston. Um, that's right, because it's spot on.
Yeah, and then you can buy it with an NFT, uh, with a discount right now. That's— that is live. So I'll, I'll I don't know how to design. I'll try to design that, but I don't know how to build a bracelet.
Well, our community member Knox just built us a pool store. Let's see, merch. Yeah, the merch, it's poolie.me. Okay. And apparently, I feel like it's all just kind of like Teespring type stuff. But like some of this stuff is legit, like a tie-dye no-loss beanie and stuff. I don't know who these people are in the photos. But like, that's what our— that's our DAO. Those, those are community. It'd be so funny if that was— those were community members, but they're not. They're just strangers. But there you go.
Oh no, this is— yeah, like, can you send— yeah, we need, we need, we need Knox help. Um,
yeah, I'll tag Knox. Knox, uh, you're being summoned.
The, the hat that I bought with the NFT discount, I mean, it's super cool. It's a It's a beanie, but it took me like 6 hours to design. And I mean, it's a simple, simple logo.
Yeah, Knox has created for himself a business of just like making merch stores for different, different peeps now. That's perfect.
Yeah, layer2dao-merch.org is live. Let's do it. Yeah, sweet. And maybe we could even like add a discount if you own A poolie NFT or something like that. Yeah, I think.
Love it. Well, we'll see if Knox can do it. So, Exosphere, Weston, thank you so much for being here. Thank you. This has been awesome. This is just podcast number 1 in a beautiful relationship of podcasts and Twitter Spaces and crashing each other's community calls, I'm sure.
Love it. And as Weston would say, LFG. LFG.
LFG. Hot mic. Let's do it.
