Host Matt DeVoe interviews Joe Sullivan about his cybersecurity career and lessons learned. Sullivan recounts early DOJ work as a federal prosecutor and high‑tech crime coordinator, transitions into private-sector trust & safety roles at eBay/PayPal, then operational security leadership at Facebook and Uber. He describes building large security teams, platform trust & safety measures (selfie verification, telematics-based controls), international cybercrime cooperation and attribution techniques, and the 2016 Uber security incident that led to his 2017 termination and later trial. Sullivan reflects on disclosure, bug-bounty dynamics, public–private collaboration, executive accountability, and later roles at Cloudflare and nonprofit work supporting Ukraine (donating laptops to children in remote schooling).
