116: 7 Secrets to Success in Surface Pattern Design

This is my favorite time of year. Can I tell you why? It's because I get to introduce so many people to the breathtaking world of surface pattern design. And I think it's so fun for me because I get to experience them going through the same exact thing that I did when I first discovered it. Welcome to the Professional Creative Podcast. The moment that I realized what this was and what it could make trust true for me. The year was 2009. I was working in my mom's fabric store and I had been meeting with reps to decide what kind of fabric we wanted to carry in the store. And one day I was walking down an aisle with bolts of fabric on both sides of me and I looked at one and I held it in my hand and I thought, oh my goodness, this is someone's job. And everything for me just. Just fell into place. Everything that I loved in life. Creativity and freedom, time freedom and location freedom and financial freedom. And also using my hands and my mind to create beautiful things. It was everything I had ever wanted, all wrapped up into one amazing career opportunity. Now, for me, the problem was I didn't know how to get started. Now I'll tell you about what's coming up and then we'll come back to this story.
