Brendan Kane argues the people worth listening to are modest, curious, and action-oriented. They don't interrupt, they ask questions to understand rather than solve, and they leave you thinking instead of handing you quick answers. Socrates said the only true wisdom is knowing you know nothing.

Here's how you know someone is worth listening to. And this goes back to a quote from the famous philosopher Socrates who said, the only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing. So what he means is that the truly wise people aren't the loudest in the room. They're just the most curious. They don't need to prove that they're right because they're too busy trying to understand. Confucius also once wrote, the superior man is is modest in his speech but exceeds in his actions. Which meant that while many people will speak highly of themselves, the greatest people speak with their actions rather than words. And you can usually feel this right away. When you talk to someone, just ask yourself, do they interrupt or do they self reflect? Do they try and solve the problem or do they try and understand the problem? Do they give advice quickly or do they sometimes leave you wondering what they're thinking? People worth listening to don't speak to impress, but instead speak with curiosity.
