Brendan Kane argues that avoiding unusual risk guarantees ordinary outcomes. He cites Jim Rohn's principle and Mark Zuckerberg's warning that the greatest risk is not taking any risk. Playing it safe leads to mediocrity; wealth requires bold, confident moves.

Here's how you know someone will never be wealthy. The entrepreneur Jim Rohn says, if you're not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary. What he means is that if you do what most people do, you'll get what most people get. People who follow someone else's path to success will never find their own. People who avoid the risk of forging their own path will end up at the back of the line, just like everyone else who decided to play it safe. Mark Zuckerberg said it like this: "The biggest risk is not to take any risk at all." Or in other words, taking risks will sometimes lead you to failure, but avoiding risk will always lead you to failure. I know it can be terrifying to make bold moves without feeling confident. It feels much safer to stick with what you know for the short term, but trust me, the risk of gradually losing your edge will be far more dangerous in the long run.
