7 vs 9 Which Number REALLY Dominates in Trading

Brian McAvoy compares the numbers 7 and 9 to show which one matters more in trading. He uses golf analogies to explain how skill development and personal performance directly affect your results as a trader.
Hi, Brian McAvoy here with Inside Out Trading. And I want to share something with. Actually, I got a question for you. Would you like to make more money with your trading? No matter where you're at, if you're losing money or do you want to lose less, if you're making money, do you want to make more? If you're at break even, do you want to go ahead and get profitable? I know it's yes. Set of questions. Of course the answer is yes. I want to share with you something that is a wonderfully simple thing that if you'll pay attention to it and act on it, it can move the needle for you. Seriously. And this is really simple, very straightforward. And here's what I'm talking about. If you look at trading, it's in a lot of ways, it's like a lot of other activities. It really is. There's things that are unique to trading, no doubt, but in one regard, trading is a lot like other areas, in particularly competitive areas, business areas where money's involved. And here's what I'm talking about. If you say you're sitting here or you publish a book and it goes on Amazon and it's really as far as how good it is, it's really only about a four. It's on a scale of five, it's about a four. Or on a scale of ten you're sitting around, is the difference between that four or four and a half or five, or if you're on a scale of ten, going from a seven to a nine or a nine and a half is huge. Huge. Now think about this. In other areas where you've been involved, like maybe in school, if you're at a 7, 70%, you're average. And that's okay, that's very average. Boring, not great. But if you're the kind of person and if you're a trader, you probably were somebody who liked shooting for A's, you're and you're used to getting A's, at the very least B pluses, you're like an 85% and up, probably a 90% now, probably very likely that you're the kind of person that your personal standards, you like being in the 95 and up, where yeah, you just playing, you know that you're good, that you are worthy of operating at that level of excellence. And the thing is, as a trader, when you choose to go from being an average trader and if you're not making money, if you're losing money, if you're struggling, if you're just starting wondering, hey, is anybody really making this? Kind of. You're starting to lose faith in it because you've been at it for a few years and it's really just not going the way you'd like. Or if you're struggling. Here's the thing. If you enter this business, this occupation, and you don't pursue excellence, you as a trader, you're going to get average results. And average sucks. 70% in the trading world sucks. It really does. 70% traders are not making money, they're struggling. And it's rough and it's the roller coaster ride and it's the endless fight with the emotions and a lot of stupid mistakes and make money, give it back. Money, give it back. That's where average lives in the trading world. It's a matter of you choosing to operate and to become that a level trader that you're used to being in all the other areas of your life. Seriously, when you choose to do that, you'll see the results. Trading gets easy. When you level up, it does. It gets easy. Everybody. There's a saying. I don't know if it was Jim Rohn. I think it was Jim Rohn. That's at least who I heard it from first. He said, don't wish that it were easier, wish that you were better. And that's how it is with trading. There was wonderful wisdom in what he shared with that. That's yeah, if you're up against something and it requires a certain level to do well at it, instead of wishing it was easier, just say, I'm going to get better. And just like everything else that you've pursued in your life, when you pursue that level of excellence, things get easy. When you're good at something, it's a lot easier than when you're still not so great. Here's the thing, just because you know how everything works and you know what to do, that doesn't make you good at it. Just like with golf. It's my favorite analogy. I've grown up knowing about the game of golf. My dad was an avid golfer. My grandfather was. He was like a pro level golfer. I've never been a great golfer. I understand how the game works. I know all the rules, know all the, all the terminology that goes with it. I know all about the game. I know what I'm supposed to do. You get your stance right, backswing right, all in. I know what I'm supposed to do as a golfer. But just because I understand the game and I know what to do, that doesn't make me good at it. Trading's the same way. Just because you've been at it for five years. I've been playing golf for 40 years. I'm still not a great golfer. And until I skill up, until I pursue the training and, you know, a good coach to make me a better golfer, my game's never going to get better. I can watch all the YouTube videos when I could spend thousands of dollars on clubs and putters and all that kind of stuff. My game might improve a little bit, but only when I focus on myself am I going to get better. And same thing goes for trading when you focus on yourself, because this is a game of skill and it's all about you. You're at the center of your trading process. And so when you level up cool, your results will follow, you'll get better, it will get easier and your results will show cool. So again, there's a huge difference between a seven and a nine. If you're sitting there to 70% and you're just focusing on chasing trades, focusing on your discipline is important, don't get me wrong. But that's not where you want to focus. You want to focus on you. The better you get, the less discipline you'll need. It just plain will be easier to do the right thing. Cool. You won't fight with your emotions anymore because your emotions will remain calm. The reasons your emotions are up there is because you're a little outside your comfort zone from a skill standpoint. Seriously, think about anything else where you're nervous doing it. It's because you're not quite skilled up, you're not quite ready for it. But when you're ready for anything, you just go do your thing. Trading is no different. And if you're trading outside your comfort zones, by definition you're in an emotional state and you'll be fighting your emotions forever. Where you stretch your comfort zones, you get better, you get training, you get proper education. Training really is it though. It's knowledge and it's also skill. And that's only going to come through training. I'm going to get in a book or video. You actually have to work with somebody who's going to give you exercises and drills and things to do to become a different trader. Anyway, I hope this been helpful because really this is the truth of it. When you level up, that's when trading is going to get easy. And there's a massive difference between seven and a nine. Just because you're seven and just because you're getting by, that isn't what you signed up for. You sign up for trading so that it can be really good, a really good addition to your life. And you want to be one of those success stories where it's yeah, I can quit my job and go trade and travel the world or just chill and have time with my kids, my grandkids. You want to be able to do that. So decide that you're going to hit that 9095 percentile and skill up. So again, I hope this has been helpful. If you like this kind of video, subscribe to my channel.
