Brian McAvoy explains why trading is harder than most people think. He warns against expecting quick riches and stresses that success requires serious preparation and skill development to compete in the market.
Hi, Brian McAvoy with Inside Out Trading here. Whether you've been trading for a while or you're relatively new to it, listen up because this is pretty important. As you know, in trading, there is a lot of money to be made. But just like any other arena where there's high stakes on the table, it's full of very fierce competitors in trading. You're up against institutional investors, international banks, small, medium and large companies, and a lot of very experienced, very savvy veteran traders. Now, if all you've ever known prior to trading was maybe your mutual funds, 401k, some buy and hold stocks here and there, or a rental property or two, well, as far as investing goes, that's like living in the suburbs. It's relatively safe. Most anybody can be there without any major daily concerns. But see, trading is like living in the bad part of town. You better not just go wandering around here thinking that it's all hunky dory and everything's fine like it is in the suburbs. There are a lot of hardcore investors here and you better be prepared to protect yourself. If you come here and you're all naive about it, well, you're in for a financial beating that you will never forget. You'll get your pockets picked and you'll get mugged on a regular basis until you figure out that this is not get rich quick. It's about survival here. Unlike what you may have heard, there's no big table full of cash waiting for you to just stroll over and scoop it up. There's nobody standing there with fistfuls of money to hand you. Every trade has people on both ends of it and everybody here is hungry to make money. Now you're going to have to win every dollar you get and you're up against a lot of people that have experience and resources that you just plainly don't have. It's dog eat dog. Don't think it's not. Now, fortunately, there are a handful of people on the Internet like myself who do care about the good people that get into trading. Personally, I believe that people are good and I know that there are a lot of people because they'll see a commercial or maybe get something in the MA or they run across a website. It talks about all the money that you can make in trading and how easy it is. You just get sucked into trading without any proper preparation. Nobody telling you, watch out for this. Protect yourself. There's a lot to learn. It's not easy. There's nobody there telling you that about any kind of warning you get is when you sign the acknowledgments when you open your account that yes, there's risk involved, but beyond that it's pretty much you show up with money and you start trading. There's no required licensing or training before you get started anyway. What you will find on this site here at Inside Out Trading is resources to help you protect yourself and to become a good trader. You won't find any promises of how rich you're going to be an hour next week or you're going to be swimming in cash 30 days from now. All that kind of stuff. None of that.
