Straight Talk about Trading: Use Inverted Thinking to Get Good Answers

A trader explains Charlie Munger's inverted reasoning approach: instead of asking what makes a good trade, ask what destroys accounts. The speaker shares how mentorship and getting help improved his consistency and performance.
So I'm watching this video, and the guy that's. That's doing the video, he's. He's sharing his wisdom from Charlie Munger, who, you know, is Warren Buffett's partner at Berkshire Hathaway. Anyway, Charlie shares a lot of wisdom and generally speaking to investing in business, but this particular list of items in this particular angle really very, very much pertains to traders as well. And the guy that I'm talking about is Alex Hermosi. And I'll go and just flip over to the list here, because I want to share this with you. He's got a thing. It's called invert reasoning. And you'll like it. It's kind of cool. So let's just jump over there real quick. Okay, so here's what. Here's what he's talking about. The guy that I like to follow, his name is Alex Hormoz. He's a pretty sharp business guy, shares a lot of his wisdom. But anyways, this is Charlie's approach to solving some problems. He calls it looking for an inversion inverted solution. And really, it's where you take a. You take a situation and you say, well, how about if I wanted to create the opposite outcome? So when he's talking about business, you know, business, he says, you know, okay, you know, what would I do? You know, if you wanted to not make money in business? Well, you would do lots of different things for short periods of time. You would not get help. You'd make all the mistakes on your own. You'd repeat mistakes over and over again, and you never change. And so it was funny when I was hearing this and seeing the list, it's like, okay, so, yeah, this is. I remember when I was, you know, starting off as a struggling trader. This is exactly what I was doing all the time. Jumping around, doing lots of different things, jump from one system to another, um, and, you know, do it for a short little while, jump to something else, not get help, try to do everything on my own. And of course, you know, not learning from other people's mistakes, making the same mistakes over and over and over again. And of course, you know, I just kept hammering away thinking, oh, I got this, and I'll just keep doing what I've been doing, which was stupid. And that's why I was struggling. So, anyway, I wanted to share this with you because, you know, it really does make sense if you're struggling as a trader. Yeah. You have to take a look at it and say, well, just, you know, aside from the very specific things that I'm doing, generally speaking. What am I doing? Yes, Am I, you know, trying to do it all on my own, not getting help? Am I jumping around a lot? Or am I saying, well, you know, stick with this and, you know, make it work. I'll stay focused. Or again, are you jumping from strategy, strategy to strategy to strategy and, you know, yeah. Or you just keep doing the same thing over and over again, repeating your mistakes. I heard a saying not too long ago. I thought it was hilarious. Says, you know, I never make the same mistake twice. I make it four or five times just to make sure. And with trading, probably the biggest thing out of all these lessons, probably the biggest one out of all of them, though, is not getting help, really. Trying to do everything on your own is probably the biggest obstacle that traders have, because this is not an easy occupation. This is a skilled occupation. It requires skill and a certain level of expertise. The whole thing is, if you're trying to figure it out by yourself, this is not an occupation that lends itself to just being figured out. Getting help is probably the biggest thing. And not just collecting information. We're talking about actually getting help, getting a mentor or a coach, somebody that you can work with, somebody you can interact with, that you can speak to and ask them questions. They can ask you questions. When I'm working with clients, one of the biggest things is I can ask them questions because I'll know what to pursue that they haven't even thought of. I mean, that's the biggest thing when you're trying to figure it out on your own. You are your own limitation. You don't know what you don't know and you can't see what you can't see. And so you'll have all these blind spots. And until somebody taps you on the shoulder or you seek out the help, they're going to remain blind spots. And sometimes that can last for years. And that's just. That sucks. It really does. So anyway, we'll keep this one kind of short. Main thing is, don't try to do everything on your own. Do something different. Get help. Get good help, whether it's me or somebody else. Don't just sit there beating your head on a rock thinking, someday it's just magically going to start working out. Doesn't work that way. Get some help. Compress the time that it takes to get yourself skilled up makes all the difference in the world. Here's a little secret. This is a game of skill. The biggest thing you can do for yourself if you really want to jump ahead and you know, make that like quantum leap, nice buzz phrase there. Or at least used to be a strategy, not the magic, just getting a new strategy, tons of strategies, psychology, it's important but again that's not the magic thing. Getting skilled up is the biggest thing. When you get training and you, you up your ability and your understanding and your hands on experience and again the know how with trading, when you level yourself up, that's really where you make the fastest and most permanent gains. And it's really cool when you do it if you just try to figure it out on your own. Again, beating your head on a rock, that's a long slow process. You know, it may happen, you know, might over five or ten years you might figure it out, but it's a whole lot easier if you have help. So get the help, get there faster and make more money. You know, at the end of five years you're gonna be way ahead. So anyway, hope this been helpful. If it has, give me a like down below.
