A trader reflects on why most new trading strategies aren't actually new. The market has documented nearly every approach already, yet people keep searching for the next breakthrough idea that will finally work.
I hear so many traders, they're constantly chasing strategies. And it just kills me, because as far as strategies go, there really are extremely rare that anybody comes up with a truly new strategy. Almost all of them that you hear about, it's some past version of something that's already existed, probably for decades. As far as a strategy, most of them have been figured out a long time ago. There have been so many people in the trading space, so many smart people with resources who have explored all the possible different ways to trade and the different strategies you can employ. And the thing is, most of them, the good ones, have been published. There are books about them. There are YouTube videos about them. There is no shortage of strategies out there now. A lot of them are crap. That's true. Some of them are good strategies, but they're not good systems.
