The Simple Secret to Profitable Trading

Brian McAvoy from Inside Out Trading argues that consistent execution of a decent trading system beats chasing perfect strategies. Most traders fail because they don't stick with what works, not because their system is flawed.
Hi, Brian McAvoy here with Inside Out Trading. And today we're going to talk about. This one's a fun one. Today we're going to talk about the simple secret to profitable trading. And yeah, it actually is that straightforward if you think about it. Now, you talk to most people, they're going to say, oh, the secret of profitable trading, it's all in your strategy. Got to have got the right strategy. You're going to make money, you know, you know, or buy our strategy, you know, look at this chart. You know, got in over here, got out over here. Look at all this money we made. You can do it, too. So no, it's the magic strategy. No, it's not. So, you know, we've got a big group of people over here that's all in a strategy. If you've got the right strategy, yeah, you're golden. You're going to make money. Which is not true. We've learned that the hard way. I mean, do you have to. Do you need a decent strategy? Yes, you need a decent strategy. But is there a magic strategy that's going to make Whoever buy spends $5,000 to, you know, learn the secret from them with this strategy? No, doesn't work that way. And then you also have this whole other group over here. Oh, it's all in the money management or risk management, and there's some validity for that and it has its place, but that's not the secret either. And then you got, oh, of course, the trading psychology bunch over here, you know, where you must have some deep subconscious issues, some limiting beliefs, something that your mommy said to you when you were five years old, it traumatized you. For trading, you've been able to be successful in everything else, but for trading, whatever what she said to you, it hit you. For trading. Well, no, that's not really it either. Or just got to get your psychology right, get the right mindset, be focused, be disciplined, get control of your emotions. And we all know how effective that is. Not that easy. Doesn't usually stick. Have tons of people coming to me for. And they've been through all the different stuff. So the psychology wise. So there's a real simple secret that there really is. And it is this simple. Stop chasing strategies, stop chasing psychology and discipline, all that kind of stuff. Here's the simple secret to making money with trading. It's this simple. Keep this in mind for the rest of your trading career. A decent system. Decent doesn't have to be great, but a decent system executed consistently will outperform and make More money than a great strategy executed inconsistently. True. Been proven by every successful trader. You don't have to have the magic strategy, the secret strategy. No, it all comes down to consistent execution. Now, are there psychological aspects to it? Of course, trading is a mental activity, but is it just about mindset and discipline and all that kind of stuff? No, it's not. The execution part of it comes from proper training. Think about it. With any performance activity, whether it's a sport or a profession or trading, you have to get good at it. And when you get good at something, the psychology kind of takes care of itself. The problem with so many traders is they're trading with inadequate training. You don't have the full skill set. I'm not knocking anybody. I went through the same first year of trading. I was not where I needed to be, but when I skilled up, I learned the skills that I needed to have to get good at this, the full set of skills to be competent at everything about this job. It got very matter of fact. And then the big thing that I learned is, yeah, I can take most any decent strategy and make it profitable and make money with it. And that's really cool. And you can do the same thing. That's the other cool thing about it, is that you don't have to be a special person. You have to be reasonably intelligent and trainable and this will generally work for you. Most people who get into trading, you've got what it takes. It's the lack of good training that really has made things difficult for you. That's why the consistent execution is so difficult. That's why it's sticking to your system or even finding a decent system, being able to stick to it and not make changes to it on a regular basis or jump from one system to another, or at least even if you do stick with what you think is a decent system, you just can't seem to, you know, keep from deviating from it. All those psychological things, those causes of your losses and lack of profitability generally come down to lack of proper training. Cool thing is, when you get the right training, it undoes the psychological damage that happened in your early days of trading that are messing with you now. So. And the cool thing is, most traders are above average. You're above average. You've already demonstrated, you've already proven to yourself in the world that you are capable of amassing money, that you are okay with money, that you are can be disciplined enough to amass the money and perform a complex, sophisticated job. Your day job is probably way Tougher than trading or more sophisticated and complex at least, and you handle that without a problem. So the discipline is there. Being okay with money, being okay with success. You've already demonstrated that you have all the personal traits that it takes. So there's nothing wrong with you. It's just a matter of getting you properly prepared as a trader with the right skill set, with the right mental training, active training, so that you know down in your bones that yeah, you're solid, you know that your strategy solid, your system is solid and you're good trading it, that you had that consistent execution. When you get your skill, when you get trained right and you get skilled up, the full set of skills, some trading gets easy and it really becomes very simple. And the simple secret still plays out. Yes. So on the consistent execution, a mediocre, even a mediocre strategy traded consistently will outperform and make more money than a great system executed inconsistently. And so it's all in the simple fact of focus on consistent execution. That's why when I teach traders, when I work with you and I take you through the training, we start with consistency first. I don't worry about profit first. We're focused on consistency, we establish consistency, then we dial in for profit. And over the course of the training you get rewired for consistent execution. Because the main thing we're going to do is we're going to give you a different experience with your trading and that's how you fix the, the mental stuff, psychological stuff is you change your experience. You don't just keep trying to have the same experience but like think your way out. It doesn't work that way. You have to change your experience. And when you do, the execution happens and you go to the markets with confidence in, you know, when you're solid, which is really awesome. So I hope this been helpful.
