Trading Education - Are you practicing good trading or bad?

Brian McAvoy from Inside Out Trading explains why most traders practice bad habits without realizing it. He argues that emotional discipline and seeking outside feedback are what separate consistent traders from the rest.
Hi, Brian McAvoy here with Inside Out Trading. Today I got something that's really important for you to pay attention to. And this is an everyday thing. When you're trading, whether you realize it or not, you're being trained and you're training yourself every single day. Before we get started, make sure that you subscribe to this channel, and if you're on YouTube, make sure that you go ahead and click the notification bell. And so it's really, it's really important to pay attention as to are you being trained well or are you being trained poorly? Or another way to look at it is it's what you're practicing. Are you practicing good trading or are you practicing trading that maybe isn't as desirable as you would like it to be? And the thing is, this is really, really crucial because this means every day you're spending hours either reinforcing bad things or reinforcing good things. And the longer it goes on, the harder it is to undo if it's not the way you want things to be. That's part of why I like to refer to it as the kiss of death. When traders, you know, when they first start out and, you know, they're very brand new to trading and they grab a system or they jump, you know, they get talked into joining a trading room or signal service or whatever, and they very quickly start trading with real money. I call that the kiss of death. Because as soon as that decision is made, as soon as you start trading with real money, you're training yourself. And so you're either being trained to do things well or you're trained to be. You're practicing emotional trading, Chase, you know, chasey trading, scared trading, angry revengeful trading, all that kind of stuff. So it's really important that you, you know, you be mindful and be intentional and conscious about it as to how you're, you know, what you're practicing, because again, you're training yourself. You're training yourself, you know, emotionally, psychologically, physically, and you're establishing or reinforcing, you know, response patterns. And so it's really crucial that not only do you become aware of this, that you know, whatever you're practicing, you're reinforcing. But if it's not what you want, then you need to take conscious control of it. And, and if you don't know straight away how to attend to it, maybe you've wrestled with it for a while, well, get help. Because obviously, if you've tried to address it yourself and you haven't been able to overcome it, well, then you're going to need an outside perspective because these kind of things are not, they're not real easy to just figure out if you knew how to get things squared away. If your trading is not going away the way you want, you know, you've got a good system, you find you're chasing trades, you, you're hesitating, moving stops, all the things you know you're not supposed to do. If you're still doing those things and you're aware of it, but you can't get it under control, well, again, you're going to need some outside perspective to help you fix that, because obviously you've got things going on subconsciously and consciously that are not allowing you to correct the problem. And so it's not going to go away all by itself. It's not like you're just going to wake up one day and say, oh, yeah, hey, wow, I feel good. And you just begin trading the way you want and you can't really force it through willpower. You've probably already learned that, yes, that doesn't work. And everybody knows about, you know, New Year's resolutions and dieting and, you know, exercising, all that kind of stuff. If you're relying on willpower, it's only going to last for so long. That's really the hard way to do it. What you need to do is, and this is where I help traders with, is I help you understand what's going on, what you're working with, how it's affecting your ability to do what you want to do well, and then also how to retrain yourself, how to break the old patterns, the old habits, the old responses, all that kind of stuff, and establish new ones. And that's really, it's critical because again, until you get that outside help, if you've already tried, you know, lots of things, you got psychology books, been watching videos, you try the latest discipline tricks and that kind of stuff, and none of it's worked well, then that means that you still haven't found the answer yet. And just from my experience working with traders and my own experience, again, if you're in that, if you're in that spot yourself, it's, it's a really tough spot to dig yourself out of. And the outside help, it can happen so much faster and it's so much easier. And if, you know, if you're, if you find yourself in that situation, I would love to help you out. Swing by InsideOutTrading.com book a call with me, we'll discuss your situation. And see if we can get, get you past whatever obstacles are in your way right now and onto better trading. I mean, if you think about it, if you've been trading for more than six months and you're still fighting some of the same issues that you have been all along, or you know, you got some long standing issues and you just haven't been able to resolve them, there's no point in letting them continue because they're, they're just going to stay there and stay in your way and you know, by getting help, you can finally get past them again. It's that outside perspective. And again, this is what I do. This is, I help traders with this. I did it in my quality days, you know, helping people fix execution performance issues. So we got good, consistent performance and execution out of everybody across the entire plan all day long. That was my job. That's what quality is about. I was really good at it. And since I brought it to trading, it works perfectly for traders as well. And so, you know, if consistent profits is what you want, you want that good consistent execution, you know, you got a good system, you just want to be able to, you know, stick to it and trade it.
