Trading Psychology - How Blind Spots Can Keep You Stuck for Years

This is a YouTube video titled "Trading Psychology - How Blind Spots Can Keep You Stuck for Years" created in December 2020. The content features a monologue by Brian McAvoy from Inside Out Trading, where he discusses the challenges individual traders face with blind spots in their trading approach. He emphasizes the importance of gaining new perspectives through training to become a more effective trader and previews a series of videos addressing specific trading blind spots.
Hi, Brian McAvoy here with Inside Out Trading. Today we're going to talk about something that's really, really important for individual traders and this is blind spots. Before we get started, make sure that you subscribe to this channel and if you're on YouTube, make sure you go ahead and click the notification bell. Trading can be rough, that's for sure. You know, it's, it can be frustrating and lonely. You know, like a lot of times it almost feels futile because you're just hammering at it away for weeks and months and sometimes years and not really seeming to make any progress. And the thing is, it doesn't have to be that way. One of the toughest aspects of being a self directed trader is that you can't see your own blind spots. You're limited to what you can see. And the thing is, if you can't see the problem, you can't fix it. It will just remain indefinitely. That's why I have a lot of people come to me and I'm going to trade 3, 4, 5, 8 years still wrestling with the same problems because they're unaware of the problem. They know that something's not right because their trading is not going the way they want, but they can't fix it. It's like I've tried everything I can think of but I don't know what to fix, I don't know what to do. And it's really frustrating. That's why it's so easy to stay stuck sometimes for years. I mean, it's just proof of Einstein's comment that you can't solve a problem from the same level of consciousness that created it. And that's why it's so crucial that you get help from others along the way in trading, instead of just trying to figure everything out yourself, get help from others so that you can tap on their experience, but also for their perspectives on things. This is huge. They can help you to see a situation from a different viewpoint. A lot of times that different viewpoint you can see the problem and how you can address it. Really the weeks, months, sometimes even years that this can save you is huge. Not to mention all the heartache, the self doubt, the regret and of course missed profits. The money that's not in your account that should be there now. The thing is, don't get me wrong, most traders like you are above average, accomplished to a certain degree, otherwise you wouldn't be in a position to trade. And so we're not the type to just sit on our hands if something's not working. We're going to keep trying to fix it. But again, if it's a blind spot, you're not going to see the problem. You won't know what to do. So you keep chasing the wrong solution. Now one of the big problems for traders, especially being above average intelligence wise, is the trap of trading. Because, you know, it looks so simple. I mean, it's really easy to think that, you know, once you understand how it all works, that you know all you need to know. Well, it's not that simple. There are a variety of skills and perspectives and understandings and knowledge abilities that you need in order to be a consistently profitable trader. You can't just jump into it and say, oh, I get how it works. You know, buy low, sell high, you know, get in, you know, at the beginning of the trend and get out at the end of the trend. Hey, I got it. No, it's not that simple. Now, where a lot of traders wind up just spinning their wheels forever is pursuing solutions that are on the same level of thinking and knowledge and skills where they are right now. And this is what I'm talking about with a horizontal approach. For example, if you've been trading for a while, you understand how the game works, you know what the markets mean and the different, you're familiar with the terminology and you know how to place trades, all this kind of stuff. You know, nobody needs to tell you what to do as far as getting into the market and out. But the thing is, if you're just looking for new systems, that's kind of a horizontal approach. It's just more tools. If you're looking for new tips or tricks or methods to stay more disciplined, that's still kind of a horizontal approach. If you're looking for solutions that are basically still on the same level where you're at right now, that's again, that's a horizontal approach. That's not really going to advance you as a trader. Now what you need to really advance yourself as a trader to make it easier to profit and a whole lot less stressful really, is a vertical approach. And here's what I'm talking about now, when you gain new insights and understandings and perspectives and a different experience through specific trainings and that kind of stuff, now you're seeing things from a different perspective. Perspective, a different angle, a different viewpoint, however you want to term it. But now you can become aware of your blind spots. Now you can see them and now you can. Now you know what to go fix, which is really cool. And the whole point of it is you're not just collecting more things. You're not just the same trader with new tools. You become a different trader. That's what happens when you take a vertical approach to it, a horizontal approach, you just have more stuff. With a vertical approach, you're actually becoming a new trader, more capable and more able to deal with the dynamic environment of markets. And really, I mean, and that's why I focus on training, you know, rather than some, you know, systems and signal services and that kind of stuff like everybody else. No, I want to. I want to provide you with the training that's really going to advance you and help you grow and actually, you know, experience, you know, the fruits of all your, you know, everything you've invested so far because you've already invested a lot of time and money and, you know, effort into, into your trading business and trying to make it a success. And I really want to help you get there. I mean, imagine when you change as a trader and you can see things differently and you have more ability to deal with things effectively and it's easier to make money and adjust when the markets go crazy and that kind of stuff. I mean, how will your experience be different when it's easier and you're looking at the markets instead of going, God, I'm just tired. It seems always to turn against me and I just can't seem to make. And you can go from that to, yeah, I'm making good money in the markets. I'm just kind of having fun because I'm looking to just keep growing my account. And like I said, you have a whole different experience because now you're on the success side of it because you're a different trader. It becomes easier as you skill up yourself and you gain new insights and understandings. Like I said, how will your life be? How you feel differently about yourself? That's the cool thing about it, is not only do you get to enjoy the stuff on the outside, but you get to enjoy stuff on the inside too. Your confidence goes up, you're happier and that's cool. That's what I want for you. I do what I do because I want to see you succeed. I want to see you enjoy the life that you've put all this effort into. I want to help you get what you desire. So anyway, over the next few days, be looking for new videos because this is the first in a series where we're going to take a look at specific blind spots, specific things that most traders don't see and they're not aware of. Oh, this is what I need to fix. This is something that's holding me back. We're going to go into these one at a time over the next several days because I want to help open your eyes to it, help you understand okay this is what's going on. This is why this particular aspect of trading has been difficult for you and again help you move past the obstacle and move up vertically. Become a new trader where things are easier and you're making better money. If you found this video helpful, hopefully you had just in the different perspective that I shared with you here.
