Trading Tips: How's Your Self-Talk?

A trader explains why your internal dialogue matters when you're making decisions with money. Negative self-talk reinforces bad habits and costs you. The fix is catching what you tell yourself and changing it.
How do you talk to yourself when you're trading? Do you, you know, are you encouraging and supportive of yourself or are you like, as it happens to almost all of us, are you really critical of yourself? Do you beat yourself up, you know, when you do something and it's not quite right, or you maybe, you know, you do, you know, have a big mistake that cost you some. Do you sit there and beat yourself up? Do you speak optimistically to yourself? And you know, the other thing is, are you just playing nice to yourself? Are you being a good friend of yourself? Are you beating yourself up and really making yourself feel bad? I mean, self talk is huge. So make sure that you're being very aware of how you talk to yourself when you're, when you're trading and after you're trading, you know about your trade just all the way around. You really want to make sure that you know because your, your subconscious is listening. And if you're constantly telling yourself, you know, you suck or you know, I suck and you know, I'm a loser, it's listening and it's going to make those things, you know, happen. It's going to reinforce it. So be nice to yourself.
