In this episode of the No Days Off podcast, host Brian Gubernick explains how to build and sustain momentum in both personal and professional realms. He argues that momentum is the engine behind habit formation: repeated actions over time become habits, but those actions only persist when momentum exists. The core strategy he proposes is to deliberately celebrate the smallest wins—recognizing and pausing to acknowledge even the most granular achievements (e.g., making a first sales contact, booking an appointment, showing up on time). By treating these micro‑victories as meaningful milestones, individuals generate positive energy that compounds, leading to larger successes and a shift from negative to positive momentum. Gubernick illustrates the concept with a sales‑process example, emphasizing that each step should be celebrated to reinforce progress. He concludes with a reflective prompt, urging listeners to identify an immediate action that can boost their momentum, reinforcing the podcast’s overarching message that every day offers a new chance to improve.

Thank you for joining me today. It's Brian Gubernick, and welcome to the No Days Off podcast, where we believe that each day brings a new opportunity to get better. So let's get into it. Today, I'm going to be discussing momentum, the creation of momentum. See, all that we talk about here at No Days Off, getting better at different aspects of our respective worlds, it means taking action. And those actions compounded over time make you extraordinary, help you improve, get you to a level you weren't at yesterday. Now, in order to continue doing these actions time and time and time again, we have to create some degree of momentum. In my opinion, that's how habits are built. They're done repeatedly over the course of time. Actions done repeatedly over the course of time will create a habit, but those actions are only gonna occur if in fact we're moving forward, if in fact we're creating momentum. So I wanna talk a little bit around momentum and what I believe to be the one thing that we can do to increase our momentum, the probability of even creating momentum, but the one thing that we can do to increase our momentum. And as I'm sharing what I believe to be the one thing, I want you thinking about how you can in fact create more energy, more momentum around the actions that you're taking every day so that it starts to become more natural, it starts to become more of a habit, and you start stacking up wins. You start compounding all of these wins in all aspects of your world, and you look up a month, 6 months, a year from now, and you're just so much further along in your journey, and you're excited. Okay, so momentum. I believe the simplest way for us to create momentum, momentum in our worlds, in our businesses, in our personal worlds, whatever it may be, the simplest way is to celebrate the smallest of wins, to acknowledge and celebrate the smallest of wins. So stick with me here. If you're a salesperson, for instance, right, we all love to celebrate the day we close the sale. We all even like to celebrate the day we maybe signed the deal before it was closed. But oftentimes we neglect or we don't celebrate all of those smaller steps that took— that we had to take to even get to the table to begin with. So if I'm a salesperson and I'm aiming to create momentum, or I have a team and I'm aiming to create momentum within that team, what I encourage everybody to do is to think about the most granular detail, the most granular level of that sales process in this example, and celebrate when we win at that very granular level. So in sales, Oftentimes we say it starts with the contact. Now it might sound crazy, but I celebrate, and I would encourage you to celebrate, the first sales contact you make the day, in that day. Now what do I mean by celebrate? Celebrate, do I mean you book a vacation or get yourself some sort of, you know, a trophy or reward? No, absolutely not. But I want you to pause, reflect, and pat yourself on the back. Or if it's a salesperson, they that you're working with on your team and they get their first contact or their first couple contacts or they win the day, right? They get the required number of contacts for the day. I wanna make sure we celebrate. I wanna acknowledge it because that victory will then compound into something bigger. The next big victory, what comes from contacts? Booking an appointment. Now we're gonna celebrate that. We're gonna acknowledge that. We're gonna recognize it. Great. Now we booked the appointment. Now we go to the actual appointment and sign an agreement. We're going to celebrate that. The point here is, if you want to change momentum, if you want to create momentum, or even change the route— if you have negative momentum or things going the wrong direction and you want to turn things around— the single greatest thing I think you could do is start by celebrating the smallest of victories. Even showing up on time, even starting a meeting, even having a powerful conversation, whatever it may be. If we make a bigger deal out of it versus just moving on with our day and we acknowledge that we accomplished something great, how did it feel? We won. It sparks something. It sparks a new energy. It changes the course of what you're doing. So bringing this back to No Days Off, we've been moving through different topics every single weekday. And my guess is that if you've been listening to some of the things I've been talking about, you've been looking at your world, your life from a slightly different perspective. And you're probably getting a few wins. I want you to pause, I want you to reflect, and I want you to pat yourself on the back and be proud of the victories that you've had. Even though they're small, compounded over time, they make for something extraordinary. And as you celebrate those small wins, you create momentum. And as you create momentum, you create even more wins. And with creation of more wins becomes bigger wins. And suddenly you look up And your world's just different. Your world's just different. So the focusing question for you today: what can you be doing right now that would aid or that would increase your momentum? What can you do today that would lead towards greater energy, greater momentum, more action being taken as a result, better attitude? Happier outcome. That's the thought. That's all I have for you today. No Days Off Podcast, thank you so much for listening. And remember, every single day brings a new opportunity to get better. So let's get after it.
