Bryan Johnson describes how Evening Brian, driven by pain and cravings, sabotages his health with late-night overeating while Morning Brian suffers the consequences. He built a data-driven algorithm to remove Evening Brian's authority over food choices from 5 pm to 10 pm, letting the algorithm decide instead of his unreliable impulses.

And the only thing Evening Brian wanted was relief from the pain. And he would then think, those damn brownies. And so for every night, Evening Brian would show up and eat something. Evening Brian, you make my life miserable. You're fired from 5pm to 10pm the version of Brian that runs me does not have authority to eat food. He cannot eat food. He's not responsible. He makes Morning Brian hate life. He makes, you know, dad, Brian, a bad dad. I basically said, my mind is not qualified to run me. My mind is going to eat bad food, it's going to eat junk food, it's going to overeat, it's going to do all these terrible things. So why wouldn't I have an algorithm run me? And so then we started measuring. I became the most measured person in human history with all the data we put look at the scientific evidence. We built an algorithm. And then my only thing I had to say to say yes to was yes, to operate the algorithm.
