Bryan Johnson spent $100 million building Kernel over seven years, learning firsthand how hard it is to commercialize deep-tech breakthroughs. He's now proposing Blueprint as a new model for funding the field, though thousands of others are already experimenting with allocation strategies and no one has cracked it yet.

I've been working on kernel for seven years now. So I spent five years investing $100 million in synthetic biology, genomics, computational therapeutics. And so that was my first experience in seeing deep tech, what it takes to get deep tech to market. And then I did it personally with Kernel and then I have experience with Blueprint. And there are different models of resource allocation and everyone of course, is always trying to find the power laws of life in this field. Right now there are thousands of people testing their own best guess of resource alloc, right? Whether you're in academia or whether you're building a company or whether you're doing this personally, everyone's running this algorithm. No one's cracked it yet. Blueprint is a version of resource allocation. You take it for what it is. It's an attempt, whether it's valuable or not. Tbd, I thought it was a missing variable in this game. Again, we'll see in time whether it's a good or bad decision.
