Bryan Johnson was diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis and plans to sequence one million of his own immune cells to identify which ones attack his stomach lining. He hopes to design targeted interventions that could stop the autoimmune attack and create a scalable cure for a condition that affects millions.
Bryan Johnson says he's been diagnosed with autoimmune gastritis, a condition where the immune system literally attacks the stomach lining.
It is true, my stomach is eating itself, and here is why that makes me excited. For context, I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroid disease at age 21. This is decades before I started my protocol. Autoimmune gastritis affects millions of people around the world, and it currently has no cure. We are going to try to solve that. A few days ago, I had a massive blood draw. We are sequencing 1 million of my immune cells. We're doing this because you have trillions of immune cells in your body that operate as soldiers. Each one of these immune cells, or soldiers, carries a specific key that is designed to kill a specific threat, like a virus or bacteria. By identifying which of these immune cells are the rogue soldiers, from there we can design specific solutions to stop their attacks. There are a ton of ideas online on how we can find a cure. And friends, I just want to tell you, I appreciate you.
I appreciate the effort, the concern, and the want to find a cure.
Now, in trying to find a cure, we are agnostic. We're going to follow the data. We want this to be methodical and reproducible so it can work in others too. So this likely isn't as simple as one cause, one fix. There is a stigma around getting a diagnosis. People think it's bad. I think it's great. The earlier you know, the better you are. I want to diagnose every single thing in my body. I genuinely appreciate all the kindness and support from all of you. I've received so many messages. We are going to share all of our learnings and the entire journey. I hope we find a cure. I hope this scales to millions of people. It would be a fantastic win for the human race.
