Bryan Johnson argues that "live fast and die young" is obsolete thinking. The new imperative is avoiding death entirely: through longevity research, preventing harm to each other, protecting the planet, and managing AI risk as an existential threat.

Up until this point, death has been inevitable. And it's never been reasonable for anyone to question that. Right now is maybe the first time in the history of Homo sapiens where somebody could say with a straight face, death may not be inevitable. The idea before was, live fast and die young. This is like the argument people say, why spend so much time on longevity? You're wasting your life. You're not truly living. That's 20th century thinking. It's not 21st century thinking. If you say right now, what is the only thing that matters to the species is don't die. Don't die individually, usually don't kill each other, don't destroy the planet, and don't build AI so it kills us. That's the only thing on our to do list.
