Bryan Johnson argues that longevity research and AI are the same project: extending and expanding human life. He sees Earth as middle-aged and humans on the edge of superintelligence, making this the defining moment of what it means to be alive.

The thing that always amazes me is that every one of our ancestors has survived sufficiently long enough to bring us to the next stage. So we're at the tip of a very long evolutionary train, right? Yep. So the Earth is middle aged, and we happen to be at the moment when we're baby steps away from super intelligence. It's the most exciting time on planet Earth, and potentially in this part of the galaxy. And we happen to be the ones occupying intelligent space right now. And so, to me, this is the ultimate situation. Longevity has been viewed as a field adjacent to, to AI and other things, but I actually think they're one of the same. They're both about the continuation of life and what the expansion of life can be. So, to me, this is all interlaced and is the essence of what it means to be alive right now.
