Bryan Johnson used to binge eat nightly and gained 50 pounds before he personified his cravings as "Evening Brian" and mentally fired that persona. By treating it as a separate self he could argue with, he broke the habit and built this identity-splitting technique into his Blueprint program.
Chapters
Years ago I would binge eat every night as a trying to soothe my stress of life. I was 50 pounds heavier than I am now. After hundreds of attempts trying to stop this behavior, I could not. I was helpless. And one night out of desperation I said evening Brian, you who occupies me from 5pm to 10pm and wrecks my life, you're fired. That moment, it was just like I feel power. And it broke me out into multiple selves. Then daily thereafter I could see the biochemical configuration of eating Brian showing up, the anticipation of binging's coming, the reward of all the foods you're going to eat. And I could have a conversation with him and say Evening Br. Hi, I see you're here and I see you're making these arguments. That was the key thing to the entirety of Blueprint is understanding the psychological interplay of how to talk to self.
