Calin's YouTube video hit 8.5 million views and his game has 50 million total views, but the revenue doesn't cover rent, so he still lives with his parents. Viral numbers don't equal money for indie developers.
My video got 8.5 million views and I didn't even notice. My game has 50 million views in total, and all I really do is just show this fractal. But even though I have all these views, the sad truth of being an indie dev is I still live with my parents. So I think to a lot of indie devs, this looks like success. It's actually not enough to pay the bills. Oh man, that's discouraging.
