Two people explain chicken fried steak, a thin piece of tenderized steak breaded and deep-fried like chicken, then topped with white gravy. Using brown gravy instead makes it country fried steak, a different dish. The name is confusing because the steak is fried like chicken, not actual chicken.
What do you think of when you hear chicken fried steak? I guess what comes to mind would be steak battered like fried chicken.
Oh, you got it! Is that it? Basically that, yeah. So basically it's like a thin piece of steak and you smash it so it's tender, but then yeah, you like bread it kind of like it's fried chicken and deep fry it. Afterwards you put gravy on top and it's the white gravy. There's like brown gravy and white gravy, but it should have the white gravy because if you use the brown gravy, it's closer to country fried steak. I have heard of country fried steak, although I've never tried it before.
That sounds really good though. Such a confusing name though. Chicken fried steak.
