In Virginia, "ABC store" means Alcoholic Beverage Control, a specific term for liquor retailers that most Americans outside the region won't recognize. The speaker clarifies it's not the same as a generic liquor store and that "party store" refers to Halloween decorations, not alcohol.
This is a liquor store or a party store, and in Virginia we call it an ABC store. What the heck is ABC store? Is it ABC Mart? I think it stands for Alcohol and Beverage Control, so they sell like liquor, beer, and wine. Yep, so ABC store is almost like the brand, and liquor store would be like the more general term, but in conversation we'll just say like, I'm gonna go to the ABC store. Never party store? Nope. I thought you were talking about like a Halloween decorations kind of store.
