Let's go live now to Capitol Hill, where the Senate has just taken the first step to end the record-long government shutdown, 40 days and counting. This morning, our nation's airports facing growing chaos and cancellations.
Tonight, millions of Americans who rely on the government for assistance living in limbo as the government shutdown drags on. At this point, it's not clear when and how much money will actually be delivered to the nearly 42 million Americans who rely on SNAP benefits.
The Trump administration has warned Thanksgiving travel could be jeopardized if the government remains closed.
Crazy headlines in America. The United States government has officially been shut down now for over 38 days, which is the longest government shutdown in the history of America. More than 1,000 flights have been canceled in just a single day because of this government shutdown. At least 670,000 federal employees are on furlough. And here's the other big one, 730,000 continue to work without pay. That includes our military, our air traffic controllers. So that is huge. Why does the American government shut down like this? Basically because the Democrats and the Republicans cannot agree on a budget. And when they don't agree on the budget, they can't continue operating as normal. I don't care whether you're Democratic or Republican, you're here to serve the people and do what's best for America. And I believe that this is not best for America, having a shutdown like this. I cannot imagine going to work every day, working hard, and not getting paid for it. Food assistance programs are stalled. It affects a lot of different entities of America. Even if another country, uh, South Korea for instance, For instance, if you want to come and visit America and you're looking to get a visa, it's going to slow that process down tremendously. To do just trade, it's going to slow that process down. Our gross domestic product is going to suffer as well. It affects a lot of people financially. It affects every spectrum you can imagine when you have a shutdown to this magnitude. The blame game is over. Now is the time to fix what's broken. I know it's easy for me to sit here and say all that, but it is just getting frustrating, and it gets to a point where it's actually concerning for our immediate future and our future down the road. So I really hope our leaders do what's right for the American people, because that's why they're in those positions. There's a lot of people that rely and depend on government programs whether it be for food, whether it be for housing or just Social Security. Let's hope it winds down quickly and we get the system fixed. I'm really curious to know what everyone else thinks about this government shutdown too. Let me know what you guys think. Do you worry about this in your own countries? Do you go through this in your own countries and how do you deal with it? So I'd love to hear you chime in and give us your thoughts. But for now, have a good night or a good morning wherever you are.
