A CEO reflects on the emotional weight of the transition from COO, describing the unique accountability that comes with the top job. The speaker explores what it feels like to carry ultimate responsibility and how the role reshapes your sense of leadership.
In 25 this year, in January, I got announced as a CEO. And the one thing that I'll just say about it is there's something different about having that title on your shoulders. You know, when you looked at my day to day and my responsibility and what I'm trying to achieve, that didn't change. But, man, when you wake up and you have that title on your shoulders, you just carry a different weight around with you. It's a feeling of being vulnerable, being. And waiting for the other shoe to drop. And if the other shoe drops, there's nobody else to turn to. There's nobody else that you can point the finger at, because guess what? You are the captain, my friend. You're the leader. And there's likelihoods, there's livelihoods. There's this beautiful mission that has been going on for 20 years that Josh started. I've got a lot that I'm pulling forward, and I don't want to. I don't want to make a mistake and let that down.
