Cameron Herold sold license-plate protectors door-to-door at nine years old. When a customer said no, he pointed out the man's bent rear plate, made the sale, then upsold two more by noting his front plate and wife's car. The lesson: objections are just opportunities.

I remember doing door-to-door sales at 9 years old where I was handling objections. I remember one guy selling license plate protectors and he's like, "No, I don't really need one." And I said, "Really? The license plate on your back of your car is all bent. Come and look with me." And of course he's going to kind of humor the 9-year-old kid. And he goes out and he sees it. He's like, "Yeah, I guess I'll buy one." And I said, "Yeah, but you have a front license plate too." And he goes, "Okay, I'll take 2." And I said, "And you've got your wife's car." And he starts laughing. He goes, "How old are you?" I'm like, "I'm 9." But that lesson, right, of selling multiple things to one customer, that no only means no in the bedroom. You know, I learned all these lessons at a very young age, and then I took those with me into the business world.
