Cameron Herold explains why a bad hire costs 15 times their salary and how to prevent it. He covers the hidden costs of keeping the wrong person, the need to address culture problems fast, and building a strong company through clear vision, core values, and systems.
The wrong person costs you 15 times what they're paying you today because of theft, because of negativity, because of problems, because of the time that you're spending with them. We had an employee one time years ago and the CEO said, oh, we'll just, we won't make them come on the retreat. Oh, great. Why are we giving this favored treatment to the jerks? Get rid of the cultural cancers, get those people out of your organizations. When you have those people on the left side of your business, you have a come to Jesus meeting. and if they can't change their behavior quickly, and by quickly I mean 30 days, they need to know that their behavior needs to change or they will be replaced because that's not the kind of culture that we're building. That's my kind of jigsaw puzzle approach to building a business. It starts with a vivid vision and then it comes down to core purpose, core values, your be hag and your one year plan. The sides of the puzzle come in second, which are your people systems, strategic thinking systems, your meeting rhythms and your financial systems. And the culture emerges from that.
