Cameron Herold says Jim Collins's Good to Great nails the concept of hiring the right people but never explains how. Herold walks through recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and firing, then pitches his leadership training program to actually make it work.
Chapters
In the book Good to Great, it is about getting the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus and everybody in the right seats. The problem with Good to Great is they don't teach us how to get the right people on the bus. They don't teach us how to do interviews, they don't teach us how to know if the person's the right person. And then once we have them, they don't teach us how to onboard them and how to train them and how to develop the skills of them. You know, if any of you have people in your company that manage others for you, I would put all of them through a training program that I coined called Invest in your leaders. That's growing the leadership skills of people because our job is to get results through others. So that's what I think of as the people side of the business is everything from recruiting people all the way through to getting rid of the wrong people.
