Cameron Herold argues that obsessing over employee happiness, engagement, and caring for employees' personal struggles drives company revenue, profitability, and scale more than systems or processes. He gives examples of personal hardships employees face (health, debt, family issues) and claims employees who feel deeply cared for will go to great lengths for the company.
Chapters
Really, really making sure that all the employees and all the agents are super happy, super engaged, good communication. If you obsess about them being happy, revenue and profit will follow. Every one of us is struggling with something, whether it's a health issue, a debt issue, financial worries, the market, our mom and dad, a divorce, a cancer. If we care about our employees more than anybody else, who care about all their personal stuff more than anybody else, they'll go through brick walls to try to build the company because all of a sudden they feel this incredible connection to us as humans where they don't feel that in their normal lives. I think we can often care so much about systems and processes that thinking that that will drive scale. What really drives scale more than anything is super engaged, happy employees. What really drives profitability more than anything isn't systems. It's also super engaged, happy employees.
