A short excerpt of a Cameron Herold talk about the importance of teamwork and cross-functional collaboration in business. Using a sports (American football) analogy, Herold argues that individual business areas must view themselves as part of one team and solicit feedback from other areas when designing systems so those systems don't unfairly shift work onto others.

So if you've got the wide receiver for the Green Bay packers, you know, you've got the offensive team, the special teams, the defensive team. What's the most important team for the wide receiver? It's a business in general. Right. Right. What's your. The whole. So what. What you need to do, because what you have now is you've got six people, you have a quarterback who's only thinking offense. The only way that a business area is ever going to create a system that includes all the other business areas, that thinks about all the other business areas is if they realize that we're all on the same team. And I can't create a system in a vacuum that makes all the other business areas work harder. Which means that if I'm going to create a system, I need to get their feedback on the system.
