So why does a company need a coo? Well, there's lots of different reasons. One of the core reasons is that the CEO starts to realize they don't have time to work on the business. They're really so busy in the day to day that they're really not actually scaling up. The organization or the entrepreneur or CEO realizes that they're managing people, but they have no time to grow people, they have no time to develop people, they have no time to work on helping the skill set and aligning people. They're so busy in that day to day. Another reason the CEO might need a second in command is they need someone to actually work on the areas of the business that are draining them. Right? If the CEO shows up every day and we really want them to be the Chief Energizing Officer, where they show up working on the right projects, infusing the company with good energy. Anytime the CEO is working on projects that drain them or that are not inside their unique ability, things that are kind of frustrating them on a day to day, if they can delegate everything except genius to a second in command, that CEO will help them then scale up the organization. Another reason why you bring a CEO on is maybe they're going to help drive revenue or drive gross margin. They can make huge incremental returns into the organization that the CEO can't do on their own. Sometimes you need a CEO because they're the MVP and you don't want to lose them. So you want to promote them to a new level so that you can handcuff them to the company and you don't lose them to the competition. There's lots of reasons you'll need a new COO or could look at having a COO in your company. Highly recommend you Check out the book the Second in Command that I wrote about six months ago. It has all kinds of information on why you might need one, what the proper one looks like and how to bring them into your organization.
