Cameron Herold says a team member once called him "effing boring" because he only talked about his junk-removal business. He argues that constant work without play kills creativity and burns out employees. The most successful companies balance hard work with team outings, flexible schedules, and time for personal goals.

Okay, here's a great little grandmotherism that is in our book, Grandma's Business Secrets. I wanted to read it to you today. This is, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." And there's the little diagram from this one. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. This is very reminiscent from an event that I was at about 20 years ago when someone on my team came up to me and said, "Cameron, you're effing boring." And I was like, "Pardon?" And she goes, "All you talk about is 1-800-GOT-JUNK." Well, my grandma used to say it In this part of saying, I'm going to read you what she used to say and how this has really applied to me in business and in life. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy is grandma's way of saying that you need balance, and it totally applies to running a company. If you and your team are grinding 24/7 without any fun or downtime, they're going to burn out fast and they'll lose their creativity. The best companies know that happy, rested employees are more productive and bring better ideas to the table. It's about creating a culture where people work hard but also have time to recharge, laugh, and enjoy what they do. Whether it's team outings, flexible schedules, or just celebrating wins, a little play keeps everyone energized and performing at their best. And I get that employees and leaders write out their bucket list and then we help each other over the years to cross items off. Remember that as an entrepreneur, you have to enjoy the journey. At parties, nobody wants to hear lawyers talk about law, or dentists talk about dentistry, we promise you nobody wants to hear about your company either. In fact, no one wants to hear us talk about the COO Alliance, but they love listening to stories about Meredith's farm adventures and my life as a global nomad. So there you go, all work and no play makes Jack, and I guess in this case Jill, a dull boy and dull girl.
