A facilities leader explains why showing up in person matters: remote conversations miss the nuances your team sees every day. Open channels for direct feedback and understanding your people's experience shapes better decisions.
There's no way that as a facilities leader I could have a pulse on the business if I'm not out there in it. I've got my team there clearly, but I can't support them properly if I don't see it and feel it and live it myself.
Well, I think that there's things when you're in the field with the team members that you pick up that no matter how many conversations or how on top of things your teams are, they're just things that they aren't going to think to share with you.
Even going to visit a lot of these facilities, I'm in there for a couple days at a time. I don't live in these communities. I don't spend extended time periods in there. So as I come in for a couple days, it's very beneficial, but I still rely heavily on my team that lives it. You know, the communication channels that we've talked about, the willingness for someone to reach out to me and say, hey, this just doesn't make sense. We really love A, B, and C in this building because, you know, to us, culture, retention, the employee experience is hugely important.
