Automated Amazon Business Model

Ryan Daniel Moran walks through building an Amazon FBA business: find a product, white-label it, ship to Amazon, run ads for reviews. Start with 100 units and $2k-$4k. Aim for 35-50% margins by pricing at roughly double your total cost.

Starting. There we go. We should be live now. Everybody, do me a favor and punch in the chat box that you can see and hear me. My hair looks not as cool in the computer as it does in the mirror. So note to self. Style my hair in the computer, not in the mirror. So do me a favor, let me know that you can see and hear me. I better mute myself on.
The page. Maybe I need to set this to autoplay. Hold on. Hit play, everybody.
So we should be live. And today I'm just gonna be going over the.
Business model.
Wow, there's over 100 people on. This is fun. So we're going to be going over the Amazon business model. Sorry, I'm kind of nervous, but I'm excited to see all of you and I'm also a little bit worried that the technical stuff isn't working. I've never done this type of a web class before, so I'm just going to make a small change on the website here.
So you all can see me.
So forgive me. While I'm a little bit distracted.
I also.
Have to keep myself on mute so that I'm not hearing myself talk because there's about a 40 second delay when I'm saying this. You guys will hear us. I'm speaking to you from 40 seconds in the future. You'll actually maybe it's 40 seconds in the past because you're hearing it delayed, but I don't know. But here's what I want to do. I'm going to go over a brief overview of the business model as I'm making this change to the webpage we're on so that other people can watch this.
And I'm going to go over a brief overview of the business model. Then I'm just going to take a bunch of questions because I have a thousand of them. Right? So just to be sure you guys can hear me. Okay, Brent, thank you. You say you can hear me. Brand Rick has questions. Okay. Thanks, Adam. Hi, Gail. Gail is my Amazon girlfriend, in case you guys were curious. Gail Prim, she's in the chat box. If you guys want to see my Amazon girlfriend, you can send her a message and say, how did you score such a handsome boyfriend in Ryan?
Thanks, Todd, for the hair compliment. Todd Aris, were we connected in wealthy affiliate years ago. So thanks, Paul Ryan, almost the Vice President of the United States is with us. He's in the chat box here. So. Hi, Maria, Jeff, Larry. Okay. There are a ton of you here. Okay, so let me go over a brief overview of the business model while I'm pulling up questions. And it looks like this, guys, I am currently working less and making more than I ever have in my entire life.
A year ago, I was.
Not happy with the direction of where business was going. I don't know if you've ever experienced it before. I'm pretty sure you have. Have you ever experienced the dissatisfaction that comes from having to do something for money? Hold on one second, I'm gonna shut the door.
There we go. There's some noise back there. Have you guys ever experienced that where.
You feel like you have to do something because money is a need? Well, even when money was pretty abundant for me.
There was this sense of I was used to following a pattern where I wasn't really free because in order for money to show up, I had to show up.
And that was not how I intended to build my businesses. That's not what I encourage my students to do. I had automated income streams, but really I was kind of at a point where the bulk of my money was only coming in when I showed up. And that gets exhausting. You guys know that if you work in a job you don't like, if you've been in a business you're not passionate about, if money's ever been tight, you know that you burn out on that quickly. And I was looking to make some changes, but the one thing I had going for me, actually two things I had going for me, one, seven years of million dollar marketing experience. Two was I was at a point where I was okay, keeping the long term in mind. So that's the first thing that's important in this business. We hear a lot in the Internet marketing community, which I have thankfully retired from, that there is overnight success. People can go from zero to whatever amount of dollars you want within 24 hours. And look, stuff like that happens. I'm not going to lie. There's plenty of people who see really fast success. But the Amazon business model is a longer play. It is a 3, 612 month play. And I decided to build that real business. And as a result, I now have a business that I am more excited about than.
I've never been so excited about a business model. I've never worked so little and made so much. One of my business partners.
One of my business partners, Paul, is on this chat right now. Paul, if you would, we could put in the chat box and just if you can confirm or deny what I'm saying about just being so excited about this business model and it being truly automated, I'd appreciate that feedback.
Todd says, we were on Skype a few years back. Yeah. How did we connect? I know we've connected before. Todd.
Rick has a great question here. He says, there's so many people that know about Amazon now. Is it starting to become saturated? A couple ways to answer that one. I don't think so. Now, I've been around the block enough to know that we as marketers ruin everything. We ruin email, we ruin Facebook. Is Amazon next? I don't think that is near on the horizon. Meaning.
Amazon is still so widely untapped that I don't think so. The real important thing though to remember here, Rick, is if you are producing a quality product.
You always win. If you do your marketing better with a quality product, you will win. So I'm not concerned so much about saturation. I'm only concerned about doing things better than my competition. And that is the case with any channel. It's like saying, Is ClickBank saturated? ClickBank's not saturated. ClickBank is a fantastic channel. There's competition there, but as the competition grows, so does the opportunity. And also one thing we'll talk about inside of the tribe. When you guys are inside the tribe. I am using Amazon as a launching pad. Amazon is the first step to my long term goal. My long term goal of having multimillion dollar businesses which they're already on pace for that in year one or first year? First full year. 2014 will be its first full year and will do definitely over a million dollars in revenue. But Amazon is just the first play.
I'm on pace right now between my three businesses to do about $2 million in revenue this year in 2014. That is only from Amazon. But I'm not stopping at Amazon. We're planning on going to retail. I want our yoga mats to be in Target. If you go to Target and you play with the yoga mats, I look at my partner Sean and I'm like, Sean, our mats are way better than this. Last time he was in town in Austin, we went to Lululemon and we were looking at all the yoga mats and I was like, our mats are way better than this. We could totally be in retail. And that's the beauty is when you look at this like a real business, all of a sudden your opportunities aren't closed to just online.
My men's health and fitness company, we're rolling out our own sales channel for that. That's probably going to be bigger than Amazon. We plan on going retail for that. We want to have our information and our products all over the place. Amazon is your launching platform because it's easy to get set up, it's easy to get cash flow going. Some people stop there. There's people that do millions of dollars on Amazon and they're fine with that. I'm friends. Here's a great example. I am Paul. Great comment. He says, I go to bed every day and wake up thinking about this business model. That's awesome.
Sorry, I'm reading some of your comments.
The great example for this, I'm buddies with some of the guys at Beachbody P90X insanity T25. Those guys, I'm friends with one of their marketers who runs their Amazon division. They do a lot of money on Amazon, but their model is a little bit different. Their marketing is done on tv. People buy on Amazon. It's a completely different model. Amazon is a sales channel. Can sales channels get saturated? There's never really a real saturation point. There's competition, but there's always opportunity there. And it's a launching platform that you can use with a bunch of marketing. We're number one for a lot of our products. We use that in our marketing. The number one product of its kind on Amazon.
I hope that answers your question about if it's going to get saturated. I think we're very early to any saturation points. And even if 100,000 marketers get into Amazon, I think there's still plenty of opportunity.
In case you didn't know, the way that this is all automated is because of Amazon's program called fba, fulfilled by Amazon. So back in the day, which was a Wednesday.
The model of automating an E commerce store was through drop shipping. Somebody would place an order, then you go order it and have it sent straight to their house. This is drop shipping on steroids. This is you take all of your products, ship them straight over to Amazon. Amazon does all the packing, shipping, processing, payments, customer service, storage, organization, everything. And you don't have to touch anything. Orders come in, Amazon ships them out. Orders come in, Amazon ships them out. All you need to do is make sure that your marketing is good, which people like me can help you with. And two, that you have inventory. Make sure you actually have stuff to sell. If you have stuff to sell and your marketing is good, then it's just cash flow. See how that works? You put the inventory there, sales go in, product gets shipped. Sales go in, products go shipped. Make sense? A question from brand. He says, I want to sell furniture on Amazon. What would your thoughts be on that? I would not recommend that as A space. Unless you're selling something small. I would. Big items like furniture or dumbbells or really heavy products. Even our yoga mats are considered oversized items. And that can be a little bit of a pain because your shipping costs go up, your storage costs go up for Amazon and you want to keep your costs low when you're starting. If you want to build up to something bigger, go for it, but start with something small. If you can go with a small piece of furniture, I don't know what that would be. A lampshade. Go for it. But I wouldn't start with furniture as your first one. Paul asks the almost Vice President of the United States, Paul Ryan asked, could you share some light on finding a quality manufacturer? Absolutely, I can. We use a combination of domestic suppliers and suppliers we find on Alibaba. Alibaba I've had great success with. I wish my partner Sean was with us. Sean, are you here? Sean, if you're here, would you just type in the chat box and let me know or send me a text? I got my phone here. Sean is my details guy. Sean figures everything out, but he found our supplier on Alibaba just by interviewing a few and asking them for samples and pricing. So you can ask any supplier you want for a sample and if they. The hell was that noise? Did you guys hear that noise? That was weird. Is there a cricket in my room or a cat? Anyway.
He just interviewed a few suppliers and.
After he interviewed them, got samples sent to his house. We actually got together one day while I was in Ohio. We sat down and went over some samples, played with some yoga mat textures and we found the best one. We picked the best one and that's how we found a quality supplier. It's really a relationship building process. The one thing that I would recommend is, as you're going into the process, come at it like you've been at it for a while. Do not let them know that you're new. Act like you are looking to do a small test and if it goes well, you have an infinite budget to buy products. Because that's true, right? If you make money from buying 100 units, you're going to go buy 200 units, right? And if that goes well, you're going to buy 500 and 1000. So your budget is infinite. But position yourself as though you're an authority on this. Don't come at it like you're new and that way they'll treat you with respect and give you good pricing and do what they say they're going to Do. I literally cannot keep up with all of your questions. And I'm sorry. Kendall, good to see you, buddy. I'm just reading your.
Yeah, so Kendall says that back in the.
Years and years and years ago, back in 2005, you had to go to Hong Kong trade shows, and people still do that. There's amazing sewing machine members who actually go over to China and meet with suppliers. And you can certainly do that if you're a travel bug like me. Hey, let's go together. Let's set up a trip. And they go and they meet suppliers over there and build a relationship there. But it's not necessary anymore because you have these sites that aggregate everything. The important thing is building a relationship with.
The suppliers that you're working with.
When shipping from suppliers are customs fees, how do you handle that? Yeah, there are customs fees if you're shipping from overseas and you just add that into your cost. With our yoga mats, we have hard costs after.
Production, shipping, customs, and I'm going to be honest with you, my partner handles all the customs details, but we just have a shipping company that handles all that and invoices us. So if we have 1000 yoga mats shipped from China to the US the shipping company manages all the customs and emails us and lets us know what's going on and invoices us for all that. I don't think either of us really know how the process works. It just comes as an added fee from our shipping company and our costs altogether out the door after shipping, Amazon referral fee, customs, everything is like 20 bucks. We sell them for between 34 and 44. So we have a great profit on that. Which brings me to a great question from.
Eliza. With regards to margins. I would recommend that there are calculators out there that will calculate an Amazon charge, like what your total fees are. Actually, Amazon just built this into their system. Now, I would take whatever the total cost is, inventory plus shipping plus Amazon, all that fee, and times it by two. Start there. Start with 100%, 50% profit margin. So if your total costs are $12, start at 24 bucks. If your total costs are $10, start at 20 bucks. Start there. We're doing price testing right now. For example, we have one product that this week we increased the price by $3 and we were selling like 2,000 units a month. We decided to increase the cost by $3 just to see what would happen. And we saw an increase in sales. There was not a decrease at all. There was an increase. Now, whether that was because that price is more Attractive or what? We're not sure. But there was no decrease in sales as a result of increasing the price. So as a result, we added an additional $6,000 in pure profit out of thin air by raising the price by $3. Whereas Sean, my partner on the yoga mats, and I, we did a test where we took our yoga mat price from $44 to $34, just as a test to see what would happen if we lowered the price and our profits tripled.
Because our sales went way up and our profits went way up as a result of that. So there's not a magic formula, but the price I would start with is start at two times your total cost. And that's where you should start.
So just to summarize, this process works like this. You get a really high quality product, you send that over to Amazon, Amazon fulfills them one by one. You do the marketing, you do the inventory management. The legwork of this business. The legwork, the hard work comes from setting up a good relationship with your supplier, getting it live on Amazon that takes a few weeks to get in place. Once it's in place, you don't really need to worry about it anymore. It's done. You have that system down. Once you do that, then you're just building your business. Isn't that simpler when you can just front load some of the work? And after that, you get to just build your business and increase sales? And Amazon is kind of your.
Partner on that, on increasing those sales.
Sorry, I'm looking at your questions. Excuse me.
If you want to do various colors of the same product, where would you start? Great question. We had the same with our yoga brand of what color we were going to start with. Here's what we did. We just asked people who do yoga, what color do you want your yoga mat to be? We put up a poll online.
What's your favorite color for a mat?
The answer was, over 50% of people said black. We're like, okay, so we'll just start with black. And we just rolled out a black yoga mat, and that's all we did. We haven't rolled out our second colors yet, but we knew that we would just create more work for ourselves if we created black and blue and green and red, yellow and purple and teal and aqua and plaid and striped and swirled and camouflage.
And indigo and cerulean.
Anyway, we knew we were just creating more work for ourselves if we did that. So we just went with the one that was most popular. And that's been a really good decision. And we'll rule out the rest of the colors last. Brad, why are you giving away all this info if it's making you so much money? You're just adding more competition for yourself. Well, one, I don't share the secrets of all of my businesses. Second, I'm putting together a small coaching group for people like you who are suspicious of if this business model even works. So I'm putting together a small coaching group for people who join Amazing Selling Machine through my link. And it costs no additional cost to you. And we've had amazing success stories come out of the tribe, including people making over $200,000 a month. There's my pitch for you, Brad. That's my incentive for doing this stuff because I'm putting together a small coaching group and if you join Amazing Selling Machine through my link, you get access to it for free. Yay. Who handles sales taxes? Amazon. Do I need to have a tax ID number? Yes. Collect taxes and pay them well. I would probably advise you to pay taxes. Yes. You don't need to collect sales taxes because all of your revenue comes from Amazon. It doesn't come from the individuals. So you don't need to do your own processing. Amazon is doing that and they're paying you, so you don't need to collect any additional taxes. But I would recommend that you pay your taxes because even though I hate the government, I'm still afraid of it.
You mentioned marketing, but what are the steps to marketing a product? That's what I struggle with. Okay, so this is how the marketing on Amazon works. You guys know how search engine optimization works, how you rank on Google and then once you rank, there's just a gravy train of traffic and you make sure that you stay there and you keep growing for other keywords. Basically the same thing on Amazon. You rank for keywords on Amazon that are buy your keywords and as a result you make sales. And the way that you get up there is through conversions. How well does your page convert? So here's what we did. We knew there was a chicken egg issue because you need sales in order to get reviews, which is how you really make sales. We all make decisions based on reviews on Amazon.
But you also need reviews to get sales. So which one do you go after first? So we were aggressive. We decided to go heavy on the reviews. We gave away free product. We gave discounts on our product. We bought traffic. I marketed it aggressively in some of our brands and as a result, we collected all these reviews and people saw these positive reviews and then all of A sudden we start to tick up in the marketplace and that's how your marketing works. On Amazon, there's a ways you can drive sales just like you can drive sales to any product. With Amazon, it's no different. We decided to just go after reviews heavily and let that do our marketing for us. And that worked really well. Question from Rick. What if you can't afford the 3k cost of amazing selling machine? Well, can you afford to keep doing what you're doing? That's my only question. If you can afford to keep doing what you're doing and wake up a year from now and be really happy with the way that your life is, then don't join. Then don't spend the money, then don't use me as a coach. You don't need it. But if you want things to be different, then if it's important to you, you'll make it happen.
But if you're spending bread money to join a business, just don't do it. There you go. That's how I. Then don't join.
Thank you, Mason. Mason says he's in the group. Ryan's expertise in marketing is great. Thank you, sir. Your five bucks is in the mail.
Is it better to put our heads together and create like little groups as you start in this business? Well, if you're going to start a little group, you might as well just join mine. We've got people who are doing $100,000 a month, $200,000 a month. People have struggled for five, six, seven years and not seen success. All of a sudden are starting to see success. And I'd recommend you just join us. Just join our group and have some mentors in the process. Hang out with us at the live event. I'm buying dinner. Come on down. It's a huge bill and I pay for it. So come on out at the live event. We'll meet, we'll have a great time.
The video isn't playing, Ralph. Then hit play.
Jeff, do you know people doing this on Amazon USA or not based in the usa and what sort of additional problems are there? Jeff? I do know people who are doing this from the uk, from Australia, from Europe, from wherever. And I don't know what their specific details are. I know some ways you can do it. I don't know how they're doing it specifically, but there's a couple ways. One, you can just set up a US address and you can run everything through your US address. Or two, you can get a US based business partner who you can have do everything from their end as far as setting up the business now you can do those. I don't know how people are actually doing it. Those are the things that are often recommended to people, but those are ways that you can do it. Holy cow. I cannot keep up with all of you. Scott, we bought ASM2 in October. Can we join your group? Send me a facebook message@facebook.com ryandaniel moran and we'll talk about it. When's the next live event? The next live event is in July in Vegas. What's the process to join the group? You sign up through Amazing Selling Machine through my link. When it goes live on Thursday.
Five days from now, and I become your mentor. I send you an email, invite you to the group and we all have a kick ass time. Great question. How should we budget for everything in total? Awesome question. Great question. We started our first business for about 1,500 bucks. I wish I had invested more. The reason it was so cheap is because we.
By the way, my partner Matt and I on that business, we looked at each other one day and we were like, in what other world can you start a profitable business for 1500 bucks that just doesn't exist even on the Internet. It's amazing. But the.
The answer to your question is we start our first business for 1,500 bucks. I wish I had done more because that was 100 units of inventory ran out like that. I wish I had spent the money and just invested more.
I would budget 2 to $4,000 for your business. If you can do more, please do. I just invested $50,000 additional into my three Amazon businesses. Into all three. I wrote checks to all three of them just so we could grow faster and roll out more inventory. You don't have to do that. We didn't have to do it. I was just like, things are going so well. We're growing so quickly. I want to invest more money into these businesses because they're cash flowing. So much more. I was like, do I put my leftover profits in the stock market? Do I put them into real estate? What do I do? I just invested them back into the business so that we could roll out more products and more inventory and stuff like that. But you need, I'd set aside 2,000 to $4,000. If you can do more, do it. If you need an investor, get an investor, put together a business proposal and go to people who are, look, one of the best decisions I made in this business was partnering with good people like Paul, who's on this chat, is a Freaking genius at.
Getting to understand how algorithms work. He manages the inventory. He's the workhorse I funded. So it's a perfect partnership because I'm the idea person. And if I had to sit there and think about the things that Paul thinks about, I want to blow my brains out. And if Paul had to invest the money that I invested, he probably wouldn't have gone into the business. So he and I make a perfect relationship. I come up with new ideas and set goals and fund those goals. And he figures out the details. And I even know how he does it. Like, if I had to figure out how to put a shipping label in a box.
I don't know what I'd do. I'd be a real estate investor, probably. But if you can find, you can put together business proposals for investors. Find people who complement your skills. It's a great decision that I made. Do not go into business with people that are just like you. Don't do that, because at that point, one of you is not necessary. But if you go into a business with people who are completely opposite of you, you're the workhorse, somebody else is the funding. You're the funding. Somebody else figures out the details. This is a great business for that because once it's set up, it runs on its own. Paul.
How is the packaging handled? Does the manufacturer take care of that for you? Yes, for nine months in this business, we had no packaging. None. We had just the yoga mat and shrink wrap. Put it in a box and send it, and that was it. Amazon puts it in and ships it out. Now we're rolling out packaging with like a nice box with some details about a company. And that's kind of exciting. It makes us look more professional and legit. But you don't need to start with that. That's something that comes later. Forgive me, guys. I am going through your questions and I literally cannot keep up because there's also questions coming in on my Facebook page and my mind's a little bit blown. So thank you. Question from Tim Tierney on my facebook page@facebook.com ryandanielmoran do you use any Amazon sponsored ads or is your traffic all organic and free? We love Amazon sponsored ads. That is a great place for marketing. So somebody was asking about marketing earlier. How do you kind of get the ball rolling? Look, the Amazon sponsored ads are freaking awesome. I mean, awesome. We've always at least turned a little bit of profit from Amazon sponsored ads. Now.
The whole point to that, though, is to get sales going so you can get more Reviews. I don't worry about turning a profit on those. I worry about getting sales coming in so that we can get reviews for our product because reviews are really what drive all of our sales. But yes, Amazon sponsored ads are awesome.
Wow.
Forgive me just going through all your questions.
How big is your group now? What's the projected group size? I don't know how many people are going to join. I hope.
We'Ll cap it at 100, but I don't know how many people are going to join. To be quite honest with you. First group was 25. Second group was 50. So this one probably be 100.
No, my group doesn't cost.
You're making hundreds of thousands of dollars. How people? I've answered like I'm starting a group that does this. We get together and we share ideas and we form partnerships and I invest in their businesses. That's why I'm forming this group. Thanks for your question, Amy.
Pat, I have a huge desire to get off disability, so I'm looking for the right vehicle to do that. Awesome. Glad to have you.
Kendyl. Thanks for your help with the comments. Kendyl.
Shah, sell me more on the benefits of joining your group. Okay, Shah, look, I've been in marketing for seven years, run several million dollar multimillion dollar businesses. So I get marketing and have built a business that's in.
This specific arena that's going to do $2 million this year. You get to benefit from learning from me directly. There's people in the group who are doing better than I am who are also in the group contributing their help. There's people who have struggled for five, six, seven years to get going in business that after going into this business model and joining our group as a result of having all of these mentors helping them, all of a sudden they're seeing real success and they're coming to the group and reporting on their success and people are sharing their ideas. People share the resources, people share suppliers. You don't get that anywhere else. Plus we get together and I buy you a really fancy dinner and we have a really good time at the live events. I spoke at the last live event and it was absolutely insane. If any of you were at the last live event, you can test, you can give an account of what happened when I spoke from stage and.
I mean, you can do it on your own or you can join our group. It doesn't cost anything additional to join our group.
Will Ryan pass on super good marketing techniques in this group? Yes, Mason is in the group and he Made a comment earlier that he benefited a lot from the marketing experience shared in the group.
Scott, great question. Thanks for taking action on what I shared at the live event. What I recommend is doing a big discount or a free giveaway of your product through a coupon code on your Facebook page and then contacting all the people who got something for free and asking them for reviews. You get those reviews, you will rule the world.
Does this allow me to invest with each other as well? Not sure I understand your question. Shah.
How much of your Amazon business is outsourced? Great question.
All I do is write copy.
Hey Paul, what do I do? I make decisions.
I write copy.
And the rest pretty much is partners. Paul communicates with the manufacturer.
Puts up the ads.
Follows up with people to leave reviews. All the shipping, packing, processing, sales is all done by Amazon. All of it. So how much of that is outsourced? 80%. We'll say. I just made that up.
What do you can you share about how to pick a good product or brand and market? Absolutely nothing. That is proprietary information.
The important thing for picking a good product to brand and market is high profit margins. 50% profit margins, something that you feel good about selling.
Something.
Paul says, my work in the business is decisions. Copy suggestions and be awesome. You are correct, sir.
What was the question I was answering? Picking a good product, high profit margins, high volume. So I look for is there competition in a market? And I see competition as good because that means lots of people are profiting from something and I want a piece of that pie. So.
You look for high volume, high profit margins. Can I enter this market, make a splash? Is it not a brand driven.
Arena? Like you wouldn't want to sell ipods because you can't make an ipod. But if it's not a brand driven thing, if it's a quality driven thing, that's a sign of a really good product to sell. What can we expect from your coaching and mentoring? Taking into account you have a lot of people when you deal with this individually or group forums like this, we meet on a Google hangout once a week. We go through every module together and we answer any questions. Some people participate, they're sitting in and we're going back and forth. Other people just watch the Google hangouts. Then on top of the weekly hangouts, we have a Facebook group where we actually interact one on one and share ideas and help one another. And then we get together at the live event, we have dinner together and we have a mastermind, which means literally we're in a room and we're going over your business specifically and we're going over how we grow your business directly. So it's very intimate.
Even if Facebook.
Anthony, Even if Facebook has reduced the reach for businesses pages, I don't listen to any of those stats, man. Like I don't listen to any of those.
I just keep moving. What do you suggest as a social media outlet for marketing if Facebook is less effective? Nothing. My social media is done on Facebook but I only use that to get the ball rolling. My ultimate goal is to get it up in Amazon and let that take care of itself. Keep pushing that channel and then going into other channels like retail, like our own sales channels.
Mason, I've been in ASM and Ryan's group since October and it didn't cost me anything to join this group. I've been going slow, but I've kept going. My first product shipment is coming next week. I would say get into ASM and Ryan's group to take the action. Thanks, Mason.
Scott, would you do an opt in list for a drawing or just use something like leadpages, send them a coupon code? No, I just. Here's how we do a coupon giveaway. We just have people email us. We say first 50 people to email us at this address. That way we get their email address and we can follow up with them.
Maria, you said twice. The joining group does cost anything. All you need to do join Amazing Selling Machine through my affiliate link when it goes live on Thursday and I'll follow up with you and you'll get free access to the group. To the coaching. Thanks Paul. I like you.
See you later.
Find something that people can review quickly and easily. Yeah, that's good. Ours weren't always that case but.
Harry, are you an actor and a comedian? Ryan? Yes, why do you ask?
Julie, do your products come in with UPC or is that something else that needs to be taken care of when it arrives? Do you have things shipped to you via ocean or air for heavy products, which all of ours, like yoga mats are heavy so we have them shipped via ocean. If they're really light like I had somebody selling something that was like an ounce, I don't even know what it was. But when they shipped that they did it through air because it was the same price.
I lost my train of thought. We ship everything through C and as far as UPC goes.
The manufacturer somehow communicates that to Amazon. You get it from Amazon, can put it on for you for 20 cents a unit.
Or you can have your manufacturer do it and they just send it to Amazon. That's a detail in my partners workout. I know Amazon selling machine talks about it. I'm not exactly sure the process. Forgive me.
I was researching a product on Amazon recently. There was One seller had 500 reviews and all the other sellers had less than 20 reviews. Looking at the photos and copy, they appeared the same and the products are pretty much the same which think it counts for that kind of disparity. Marketing is the reason for that amount of disparity.
They could be driving sales from outside of Amazon. They could just own the market because people see that, hey, this one's got 500 reviews, this one's only got 20. Which one are you going to buy? You're going to buy the one with 500. So the people who grow usually continue growing.
To cost my group. Send me a if you're already an ASM member, send me a Facebook message@facebook.com ryandan we could probably work something out.
If you want to pay the same amount as the affiliate commission would be, we can let you in. If you want to do that, just shoot me a message at Facebook.
Corey, what's up buddy? Corey snuck into our group last year. Good day. Ryan, can you share your strategy in getting high volumes of product reviews? Yes.
One, we give away a lot of product. We give away a lot of product and we follow up with those people. We give out free samples to anybody who asks if they'll agree to leave a review. Anybody who says I'll leave a review, I send them a free product out of pocket. Second, look at people who have left reviews on your previous products and get them to leave reviews on your other products. Three, call your customers. Call them, make sure they're happy. Now you can't just call them for no reason. It has to complete the sale for it to be aligned with Amazon terms of service. So we make sure they got their order, we make sure that they're happy with it. And then we just say we have a coupon code for you to for our future order. Can we email it over to you? They say yes. And then with that email we ask them to leave a review in that email. It's just really good customer service, but there's no trick to it. You got to work it. It takes legwork.
Reviews are what drive your sales. So there is legwork that goes into.
Getting reviews and that is where I guess most of our work comes from because.
We'Re working that channel.
Forgive me guys, I'm just going over questions.
I'm just looking at Comments from the Facebook page. Because there's also people asking me on our Facebook page, hey, while I'm looking at all these questions, forgive me while I scratch my nose. Do any of you listen to the Freedom Fast Lane podcast? I would love to hear your thoughts on the Freedom Fast Lane podcast because I am super proud of that and I would love to hear your thoughts on the podcast if you listen.
Larry. So you are sticking with just physical products. Are you still planning on having an information products business as well? So one of our products is in men's health and fitness. Kendyl is one of our. What would you call it, Kendall? Would you call ourselves partners on that? We're bouncing ideas around together right now. That is a physical products business right now. But Kendall and I are working on an information product that will. Our whole point on that is it's another channel for sales and we can cross sell. So people who buy our physical products will market the digital product. The digital product will market the physical product. So that is my main business right now.
I don't have any information products of my own right now to close them all down. I probably will pick it up again at some point, but I am in no hurry. I have no plans to do that. People are saying yes, I listen to the podcast. Yes, yes. What do you guys think of the podcast? Hey, while I've got all of your attention, thank you everybody for the comments on the podcast. While I've got all of you, this is a really obvious self pitch. My podcast is growing really fast. We just broke into the top 100 business podcasts and.
I'm thrilled with the growth. It is pure content. Nothing is for sale. If you don't subscribe to the Freedom Fasting podcast, go to itunes and type in Freedom Fasting. This actually costs me money to put on. I don't make anything from it. It costs me money. But you put a microphone in front of me and I'm a happy bee. So go there and hit subscribe. Don't just listen to them. Actually go, hit subscribe on itunes because that helps me rank on itunes. So go there and be a subscriber and also this would mean the world to me. Guys, would you go to itunes and leave a review on itunes for the podcast? Go to freedomfastlane.com, subscribe to it and leave a review. Both those things help me rank on itunes. And right now we just broke into the top 100 business podcasts. If you subscribe, there's 200 people watching right now. If you all subscribe and leave a review. They'll bump us up to top 50. So that would be hugely appreciated if you would share the podcast on Facebook. If you tell your friends about it. It's pure content and it would mean a lot to me if you would help me spread the word about that. We are knocking on the heels of a lot of big time people. And then there's freedom Fast lane just chugging its way up. It's really exciting.
Thanks Adam for the kind words. I really appreciate that. RM Gravely asks, are products based on or made from sustainable products like bamboo? Oh, are environmentally friendly products a current favorite? Yeah, and yeah, that's the case. We have one product that we market as environmentally friendly and that definitely drives sales. Marketing ourselves as environmentally friendly definitely makes a difference in our sales.
Mason, I left a review on the podcast a week ago. It hasn't posted. I don't know, itunes is weird about that sometimes, but thank you for leaving a review. I appreciate it.
Kendall, I'm not in ASM or Ryan's group yet, but I will be soon. I wish you would share my importing experience with everybody. Cool. Excited to have you share that.
Marie wants to know, is anybody into the EU market? A lot of people I actually don't know. We actually just started researching this since I'm US based. We're just starting to look into the European marketplace. We haven't figured it out yet, but we're figuring it out right now.
Thank you for all this feedback guys. This is fun. To recap a little bit, my group coaching class will start along with Amazing Selling Machine and all you need to do to get free access to my group is join Amazing Selling Machine through my link as someone's texting me. Oh, it's my reminder for this class, of course. So if you join Amazing Selling Machine through my link, you get it free. It goes live on Tuesday. If you guys haven't seen the latest videos, just open the emails I've been sending. I can link you to them. Actually, one second. I'll link you to my old email so you can find them.
And you can actually go and watch the videos. I've also posted a.
A bunch of podcasts about this. There you go. Here is the link for my emails where you can read them. If you've missed any, I'm posting it in the chat box now.
How many products?
Thanks health lady for saying I have a sincere voice. I appreciate it. Mark Gage, how many products are you selling on Amazon? I have three different brands.
And each of them have no more than Two products. So rolling out more and more and more. I have a total of five products on Amazon. We started with one and then a second and then I started a second business. Now keep in mind the only reason I started other businesses is because I wanted to be partnered with other people. Paul, who was on the call earlier, we just wanted to have a business together and we knew that would be a good fit because he is good at one thing, I'm good at another thing. That's another thing. Guys, if you're on the fence about this business, is there somebody in your life that you thought about, hey, it would be cool for us to have a business together. You're good at this, I'm good at this. Don't partner with people that are like you. But if you can partner with people that have complementary skills to you, it's a great fit. So that can be the determining factor. This person worries about details. I worry about marketing, I worry about networking, I worry about sales copy or whatever.
Ryan, I came in late. Don't know if my question was answered. What type of licenses are needed to run the business? Licenses? I've never worried about a license.
I mean we have an llc. It's kind of like a license. But there's no like official licenses in any of my businesses. It's all handled on the manufacturing side. That's a beautiful thing. Guys like your manufacturers taking on most of the risk. Amazon's doing all the sales. You're just in between. It's beautiful.
T shirts. Chuck, what's so unique about Amazing Selling Machine? There's other courses out there. It's a hefty price tag. Would not even be considering it if it wasn't for your coaching program. Bonus. To be honest with you, I don't know of a single other program out there that teaches this stuff. I'm sure they're out there. The question is like.
This one has a bunch of success stories. I don't know about any of the other ones and I'm not even here to pitch you on Amazing Selling Machine.
But if I were joining, I'd just be. Just look at the success stories. Just look at the, the caliber of people that comes out of each course. Do those lower price ones have the same success stories? And if they do, go for it, go for it.
But I don't know of any that have that amount of success stories or the Cool live event they do.
Do you need to set up a separate website to market your product? No, only one of our products, one of my brands even has a Website. Sorry. Two of the three have a website. One of them does not even have a website. We'll roll out a website later. But no, you don't need to have a website to do it. I'd recommend having one just as like a branding thing. But no, you don't have to do it for the first product. How many units did you buy? We started with 100.
Do you use different ein numbers for each of your different businesses? Yes. For each of the different products? No.
I just did over 7,300 bucks on eBay sales over the past six days. Awesome job, Scott. I'm starting to learn how to use Amazon. One of my friends just cleared 10k with Amazon in 2 weeks. Love this stuff. Yeah, physical products businesses are fun, man.
Gary Ryan, you keep passing over my questions of how much it costs through your group. It's the same price as on the website. Amazing sewing machine.
Hey, Pat Welch. Been friends since kindergarten. What's up, Ryan? Got a question. When giving away free products, do you use that link that drives people to your product page? When giving away products, do you use a link that drives people to your product page related to your specific keywords? How do you create that link? You can do this, Pat.
You can do it this way. And all you need to do is go over to Amazon, search for your keyword, find your product, then take that huge URL. It looks like they call it a super URL because it has your keywords in the URL and send that to your friends and family to order. To be honest with you, I don't worry about that too much. The only reason I give away free products is to get reviews. Some people do double up and they will have them order through their super URL. I don't worry about it so much. I'm just out there for reviews.
I want to do sourcing more than marketing. Good marketers online can partner with me. Right, Ryan? You betcha, Kathryn. If you want to bootstrap your business, for example, investing $500 per paycheck every two weeks would be better to wait and say that. $500 a paycheck and build up $5,000 and join the ASMR later group.
I don't know, Russ. I don't know, man. I mean, you're gonna need some cash in order to buy some inventory. It sounds to me like you're ready to go partner with somebody. I don't know, man. Don't spend your bread money, but also don't wait to change your life.
I'm selling anything and everything. Drop shipping and selling stuff to people that I know. Are you investing in Google AdWords to drive traffic to your Amazon store? You know, we've tried it. We couldn't get it to work, so we stopped doing it. Do you private label your products? You betcha. We start off private labeling our products and then we roll out our own unique spin on them. So, like, our first product was a straight private label. And then after we were selling a bunch per day, we went out and we had our own unique spin on the product made. And then we started selling that.
Hey, Bobek. What's up, buddy? I just saw your name on here.
I was talking about you earlier today.
Again, if you're not subscribed to the Freedom Fast Lane podcast, go there. Subscribe. When you subscribe, it helps me rank on itunes. Costs you nothing. It costs me money, but it helps me rank on itunes. Also, if you leave a review, I would be so thankful. Like my heart just fluttered. If you leave a review on itunes and just said how awesome you think the podcast is, I would really, really appreciate that.
What's the best place to start? If you're a complete beginner, find a good product with high profit margins. Step one, white label it from your manufacturer. Step two, order 500 units. Step three, send it to Amazon. Give away as many products as you feel comfortable doing to friends, family, customers. Anyone who promises to leave a review, put up Amazon ads, enjoy the gravy train, buy a yacht, buy a hot wife from Thailand.
Get plastic surgery for your pets to look really great. And then roll out your second product. That would be my professional advice.
Isn't that dangerous giving something away to get a review? Nope. Amazon's totally cool with it. We do it all the time. It costs us money, but we don't care. I'll take as many if you guys want a free yoga mat. So you leave a review. Done.
Does Amazon front on multiple accounts? No, they're fine with it. I've been checking out on Amazon and a lot of problems. Have nice photos for the products in some description. How do you stand out on the best way? We hire a photographer to take pictures of our products or we have somebody Photoshop really nice photos of our product. Yeah, images are definitely important. Also, the copy on your page is super important. But the most important thing is your reviews. Are you managing those reviews? Can we advertise on ebay and have Amazon fill the orders? Yes. This is not something I do, but you can do it. You can advertise wherever you want and have Amazon fulfill it. Pretty cool.
How do you sell multiple brands with one Amazon seller account? I wouldn't recommend you sell multiple brands with one Amazon seller account. I would recommend you get separate accounts. Ryan, if you have a product and your competition on Amazon is selling at a lower price and would drive gross profit to 50% on $20, I don't understand your question, Dennis, but I don't worry about what other people are charging. I worry about maximizing my own profits. So sometimes that means we're charging more, sometimes that means we're charging less. What's really important is do I have better reviews, do I have better conversions, do I have a better product? And then I win.
How do you get banned on Amazon? You get banned on Amazon by breaking their terms of service, like by doing things that aren't allowed, like faking reviews, like.
Leaving fake reviews on other people's products, like.
Lying in your listing.
I do affiliate marketing on Amazon. Some of the easiest money I ever made. Nice. Can't wait to bump it up with my own products. I agree. You will see much more success when you roll out your own.
Babeck. You're my hero.
Todd Aaras when private labeling, how can you be sure the manufacturer actually has the rights to do private label?
When you heard of anyone private labeling, somebody said no. I mean, if somebody's manufacturing something, they have the rights. Like, I mean, you're not white labeling ipods.
Okay, so, Todd, I actually did hear a story. One of our tribe members did directly steal someone's design, the design of the box. He knew he was doing it wrong. Like, he knew that he was breaking the rules. So you don't need to have night sweats if you're breaking the rules. You know it.
If somebody's private labeling a product, I mean, you're not probably ipods and calling them ipods, but you could be private labeling.
This guitar case.
Whoa. Maybe I should lock my guitar case so it doesn't open while I'm on a Google hangout. This guitar case, you can private label. Now, the guitar in here is a tailor. You can't private label a tailor guitar. You can private label a case. It's a bland ol guitar case. Great market, by the way. Music accessories. But you can't private label a brand name. So if you're private labeling something and calling it a brand name, you know you're doing something wrong. But a case.
Anybody can do that. You can also just ask your manufacturer. Are there any patents on this? We actually did have one where we were going to roll out a new design for our yoga mat. And part of it had a patent on it, but our manufacturer told us about it, so we didn't do that. We changed the design.
Anthony. Russian wives are hotter. Let's go to Russia. Anthony.
Do you have to open an account with Amazon to be an FBA dealer? Yes. It's $30 a month. Do you want special packaging that your supplier could not fulfill? How would that handle? Get a new supplier or work with them. If you're doing enough. If you're doing enough volume, they'll do what you want. But yeah, you could send it to a packager. But look, we don't worry about packaging until we're profitable. There's just an extra step. Just do what it takes to get profitable first.
Do I have to have a sales tax ID to buy from a wholesaler? No.
Some people do get them. I don't know why.
Great question from Scott. Oh, my goodness. I cannot keep up with all of you. You guys are awesome. This is the most responsive audience ever.
Shoot, I lost it. How do you split test? Great question. How do you split test.
A product page? There's no perfect way to do it. The only.
Sort of way to do it is we just put up a listing for like a week, look at the conversions because Amazon will give you that data. They will give you conversion data and then after a week change something and look at see how it responded. So only like halfway good way to do it. But that will give you conversion rates and you can just look at the data for that. I think Amazon will change that in the future because as more marketers go on, there's going to be more demand for things like split tests. I think you're going to see that change.
Your question regarding different brands and Amazon stores. I always assume this wasn't an issue because Madrid buyers search for items, not stores. Correct. Why do you suggest. I don't suggest Amazon stores. I don't know anything about Amazon stores. I'm just saying Amazon brands. If you have a guitar case brand, don't lump that in with your candle. That's pretty. Your candle distributor. Just don't make them the same brand. Make them different companies. Look, guys, we're building businesses here.
Go back and listen to my podcast about building a real business. There is a difference between a business and an income stream. If you are after building a business, focus on building a business. Don't have random products under. Under the same umbrella. Then you're not a business. Then you're just trying to have different cash streams. That's not That I would not go with that approach.
Thank you, Niels, for the compliment on my knowledge. I appreciate it.
Join our group. Join our Amazon group.
Hey, Ryan, I've been checking out Amazon. A lot of products have nice photos. I've answered that already. Okay.
So we're just getting started. Would you recommend setting up an LLC right from the start? Yes, I would.
What is up with all the ads on this page? There are no ads on this page.
There's no ads on this page. Not sure where you're looking, Ralph. Gary, you just buy.
How do you set up an LLC in the USA if you live outside the usa? I don't know. That is not a question for me. Get a U.S. address or a U.S. partner.
Or contact Maria.
How do you add those nice images to your Amazon descriptions? You actually are not supposed to. We just had a competitor who we're in touch with. I'm just gonna check and see his listing. Still the same.
We have this competitor.
Where if you go to his listing, he actually got reported. Oh, it looks like he's back up live.
He was reported for having images in his.
In his description. He got pulled for it. And I don't know what the official rule is on that. Some people get images in their description, but it's not technically loud.
And by description I mean not in the like. When you look at the listing and you see the images on the left, you should have as many of those as you're allowed to. But in the description itself, you're not technically supposed to have images.
Kendall, you're the best. You're sharing my links and you're my hero. Besides Babeck. Babeck and Kendall are my official heroes, lumped in with Ron Paul, Peter Kent and David Archuleta. That's my list of heroes.
What's the easiest way to bet out suppliers? Order samples. Yes, order samples is the best way to vet them. Look at their. Look at their feedback, Ask for referrals, Ask for people that they've worked with.
Well, here's a stumper, Rick. Do you see any selling opportunities with Amazon Fresh? I don't know what Amazon Fresh is. Please enlighten me.
I cannot believe there are still almost 200 people here. And now we're just doing Q and A. What would you suggest is a good minimum Profit margin? Minimum 35%. Start at 50%.
In your experience, what with the minimum sale price of 20 bucks you mentioned in your video, how much? Total cost is the limit. I don't understand your second question. If you're selling things for at least 20 bucks. You should be making at least 10.
David, if you're already in ASM, but you want to be in the Mastermind, send me a facebook message@facebook.com ryandaniel moran and we'll chat. If you want to, like, pay my affiliate commission or something, or if you want to come to, like, my one of my weekend workshops. My weekend workshops are awesome. They're also very expensive.
But something like, we can work something like that.
Yesterday. Ooh, Todd, you are an action taker, my man. Yesterday, I found my private label product competing for my own buy box. They damaged one of my product packaging, their warehouse. They bought the item for me to compensate. Then they put a percentage to my balance in mind because it was used damaged. My question, is there a way to have Amazon not sell the products that damage and buy from me? Yes.
So if it's your brand name and you don't authorize them to sell it. Yeah, you can have them shut down. We just send them a message that says, take this down and we'll report you to Amazon. And we always get it taken down. It's gonna happen. People are gonna try and sell your products. It's gonna happen. You just can get them taken down really easily.
Are there any custom charges when importing from Alibaba to Amazon Direct? Yes. And you work that out with your shipping company and they invoice you on that. You just work that into the total cost of your product.
I'm almost out of breath from talking, so we might have to wind down a bit.
Hendricks, starting out, at what point should you have multiple private label products? Once you are making a good amount of money from one product.
That'S when you should worry about a second one. Just start with one.
Can you embed videos into your Amazon product page? Not until you have Babak. You might have some design in this. If you have a certain level of account, like if you're doing tons and tons of volume with Amazon, they'll upgrade you to a different account level. And then you can do things like video and more images and such, but you can't do that while you're starting.
Oh, thank you, Babak.
Do we have to register a brand in us? I'd recommend it if you want to sell through fba. Probably, yes.
Oh, Amazon is rolling out Fresh, which is a grocery selling venture. Okay. I did hear about this. I have no idea if there's potential here for Amazon sellers. That's interesting. It's not a market I'm going to go into. I don't even Want to be in the food business. That's too many details there.
So are you saying all your brands should have entirely separate Amazon user accounts? Yes, but you should only have one. You should only be having one brand unless you have partners running the others. Otherwise you're going to drive yourself crazy. You don't need 10 businesses to make a million dollars. You need one good idea. Do you get this, guys? You don't need to do everything. You need to do one thing well. That's it. That's how you become successful.
Do you guys have any questions about the overall strategy? About what you get from being inside of my coaching group?
I'd love to answer those questions for you. There is a link for more information on this page. It's right below here. I haven't updated it yet. I'm updating it this afternoon.
So. But there'll be more details there.
So if you guys have any questions about the overall strategy or about my coaching group specifically, I'd love to answer those. These detail stuff. Sorry, my brain is detailed out.
So if I can be of any more service, we'll take 15 minutes or so. And also if you don't listen to the podcast, you're missing out. Go to the podcast, hit the subscribe button. It helps me rank on itunes. If you hit the subscribe button, it doesn't cost you anything. It actually costs me money. But if you hit subscribe, I'll rank higher in the itunes store and we're top hundred business podcasts now. Also, if you leave a review that would make my heart warm, that helps me rank on Amazon as well.
You know what's funny is there's like a 40 second delay on.
The hangout, so I'm watching myself Talk from like 40 seconds ago. It's like a time warp.
How many of you think let's do this. How many of you are thinking about joining? How many of you are thinking about.
Joining the tribe? Joining Amazing selling Machine, coming to Vegas and hanging out with us, Having me as your coach, having me buy you dinner. How many of you are thinking about doing that? How many of you have watched the pre launch videos? How many of you are like really seriously considering this and thinking about getting in?
Just type I want in the tribe. I'd be interested in seeing how many of you are thinking about coming in.
So I'm seeing all of your questions. A lot of them are really detail oriented. Like a lot of it can be found with a Google search.
As far as brand trademarks, you can do it through Amazon and it's free.
Cool. Glad to see some of you. Okay, Jeff, just like, I'm still not convinced. Okay. What's holding you back? You're not convinced. That's fine. I'm just curious what's holding you back.
Hey, Matt, Excited to have you. Jeff Nelson. Anthony.
Larry. Awesome.
David Bernardo. Cool. I'm excited to have you guys because we've done some really cool things with past members. A lot of past members are now personal friends. There's some that are flying in later this month to hang out. We're putting on a little workshop for them.
What quantity did you order in the beginning? 100 units.
You don't want to go into the yoga business. Trust me, that will crush you. Seriously, you don't want to be in yoga.
Will you be inviting potential Russian wives to the Vegas event? I'm pretty sure there'll be some in Vegas, so we'll just pick some up there.
Would it be ill advised to just pay your commission join instead of buying asm? I would say that's ill advised.
Because then you'll just be asking me and everybody in the tribe a bunch of questions and everyone will be like, Mrs. In the course. Dude.
Matthew, excited to have you.
Got it. Okay, Jeff. Well, I mean, if there's other stuff out there, go for it.
Pat, I'm having a football party this Sunday actually. If you want to fly to Austin, come on down.
Sure. Well, that's fine. There's actually lots of newbies that have been really successful with asm. If you want to partner with somebody who can fund it, I think that's a great idea. But start looking. Course opens on Thursday.
Matt, great question. Have any of your tribe members fly? There's one person that comes to mind who put up a product and it didn't sell very well.
But he didn't stick with it. He put up a product and it didn't sell very well.
And we had lots of conversations. We were talking on the phone. He and I just went on one and going over some of his options and he finally just decided to scrap that product and go with a different one, which I'm trying to remember. I don't think I recommended that, but he did it anyway and it ended up being a good decision because.
He just sent me a text earlier this week that he's now doing 10 sales a day, which at, I don't know, like $15 profit is 150 bucks a day, 4 grand a month or whatever. And that was a flop for a while until he found a product that he really Felt good about. He joined the second group. So he got all those mistakes out of the way. He did have a flop like his first product. He would have done just fine if he had stuck with it, but he got demotivated from it and as a result he switched over to a new product and that product has been good for him. So that, I guess is to answer your question. Try remember sloppy, I call it. More product ideas have flopped, but they've changed things and as a result.
They'Ve been really successful.
Wow. I looked at. There's someone. Ryan Monach. I just saw your name and thought it was me and I was like, that's not my picture.
What is the Vegas trip about? The Vegas trip is the conference that they put on for people who go through amazing selling machine. And I'll be there and I'll be buying you dinner there.
Todd. I bought asm. It's been amazing. Awesome. Looking forward to the tribe. Looking forward to having you.
There you go.
Jeff.
What?
Shoot. They're coming in so fast. I can break it. What Todd says to you, Jeff, is there's other stuff out there, but the tools and information in ASM is far and away better than anything I've ever seen.
Paul, excited to have you in the tribe.
Catherine, you are right. Don't spend money on things that aren't bringing in money. So if you are like, you don't need to spend money for things like trademarks and fancy images and all this stuff until you've got money coming in. A lot of people think they have to get everything lined up. Look, I used to think that success was a fireball. I used to think that success was.
Where I had to build the perfect fire pit. And I'd line up everything and I'd put my sticks in place and I'd put some paper at the bottom.
And then one day a fireball would come and strike that fire pit and it would blow up and I'd be, quote, successful. What I have since learned is that success is more like a match.
You strike it and it lights a little bit and then you put it next to a piece of newspaper and that lights and then that burns a stick that's laying near it and that starts to ignite and things start to crackle and pop and spread ever so slowly until all of a sudden it just lines up and goes.
And what I had been waiting for was the fireball.
When really all I needed to do was to strike a match.
Success is not having everything lined up and then it hits. It is about doing One thing well, and allowing to lead to another opportunity that leads to another opportunity that grows and grows and grows. Look, a year ago, I shut down my business.
I shut down all our products, and I knew I wanted to have a personal brand, so I started doing this podcasting thing. I started blogging.
And I'm still only, like, at the infant stages of that. I don't have a product to sell in my personal information products. I don't have any products to sell. I let go all my employees. I don't know what it's going to look like, but my audience is more responsive than it's ever been. There's a podcast starting to grow. This is like the newspaper starting to light. I'm starting to speak from stage. I'm in mastermind groups. Things are starting to spread a little bit, and I don't know what the next thing is going to be. All I know is that when I keep hustling, keep putting out good things, that the fire is going to ignite.
That's what business and success is. I don't know what your big win is going to be. Probably not going to have a fireball come and light in your fire pit. Take one thing, do it well, and it leads to other opportunities.
There's my phone, and questions are blowing up.
Like, some people are already partnering up on this, on this chat. What was the most challenging part of the business? What mistake did you have that you wish you could have avoided? Great question. If I had a magic wand, I would have invested more money. I mean, that I would have bought more inventory. Excuse me, I would have bought more inventory from the beginning. The hardest part is there is, like, when you get your product live.
There'S like a month of where you've got to work for every sale and work for every review. There's like a month where I call it the hump of getting over this hump of, like, my product's live now I gotta go to make sales. And for about a month, it's like you're doing ads, you're giving out free product, and it's like a bit of a grind. But once the reviews start to come in, it speeds up. And once more reviews come in, you're making more sales, you can just get more reviews. And the ball keeps rolling and rolling and rolling. So that hump is a bit of a.
Well, a bitch. It's a bit of a thing that you gotta overcome, but once you're through it, it's a gravy train and things grow really, really quickly.
Is it worth to start with a product you get for like $200 for a quantity of 100? I don't know. It depends on what the product is. Maria.
Mason I love this fire that's in you the last few weeks. Man, you're so motivated. I love it.
What level of search volume do you target when picking products? Search volume, I don't look at so much because you don't get that data from Amazon. But what I look for more is profit margin and volume. So volume as far as sales volume. And you can only estimate that by looking at how many reviews they have, looking at the number of suppliers who are supplying something. I want something with high volume. I look for competition because I believe I can win. But most importantly is the profit margin.
Can I have the product to FBA direct from the manufacturer? Yes.
Are any of your products made in the usa? Yes. I like to call it failing forward. Amen, brother. Worry about the war and forget the battles you may have lost. Amen. Kendall. Couldn't have said it better myself. Should you buy reviews on Fiverr? Only if you want to do something really stupid. If you wake up in the morning and you're like, man, what is the dumbest thing I could do today? Buy reviews because you will get caught. And if you want to have your account shut down, that's a great way to do it. So if you would do me a favor and message my competitors and tell them to start buying reviews on Fiverr, that would be awesome.
Brandon, you don't need to buy them. You can just get them naturally by getting people you know and people you trust to try the product and give good feedback.
That's what you need to do to get reviews.
Amazon best sellers and a tool offered in. Yeah, Larry, thank you for that. Yeah. If you look at any of the tools or if you just look at the best sellers, that's where I start my market research. The hump is a major bitch for sure.
