Early entrepreneurs often pay themselves too soon, draining capital the business needs to grow. Wait until your company can afford a salary and still retain profits, or supplement income with outside work instead.

The worst thing that an entrepreneur can do is pay themselves too early. Entrepreneurs are eager to go full time so they can have a life of freedom. But often when you're paying yourself out of resources that the business needs, you starve the business of being able to grow so you never have freedom and you end up working more than when you were working a full time job. Wait until the business can comfortably pay you a salary and still keep a lot of profits before you go full time. And if you're taking resources from the business in the early days, get a job or a client on the side so that you are not dependent on the business to set you free, because all that does is make you a slave to your business. That's not why you got into this, so don't create that pattern for yourself.
