A short YouTube monologue (Capitalism.com, recorded July 21, 2024) arguing that entrepreneurship is the process of undoing selfish short-term desires to reach a capacity for selfless service; once entrepreneurs selflessly serve, the marketplace rewards them financially, which the speaker frames as the ironic, redemptive logic of capitalism—that long-term material rewards follow relinquishing short-term ego-driven wants.
Entrepreneurship is the process of the undoing of everything that you selfishly want so you can get to that point where you can selflessly serve. And once you can selflessly serve, then the marketplace rewards you with money to be able to sustain that service. This is the beautiful irony of capitalism. Everyone thinks that capitalism is about people taking from other people, but the process of capitalism itself is the undoing of the ego that prevents us from from showing up and selflessly serving one another. And only by doing that does the marketplace ever give us what it is that we want long term. It is actually by letting go of what we say that we want in the short term that allows us to get what we want in the long term.
