Chapters
Hi, I'm Ryan Moran. I'm joined by my friend London here, and we're about to go on an adventure. When I was nine years old, I told you this story. When I was nine years old, a missionary came to my school. He was from the Philippines. And he told this story about how there were street vendors in the Philippines that would go outside and yell balut. And that a balut was a fertilized chicken or duck egg. And ever since then, I've kind of been curious about eating balut. And then they have the audacity to make balut a food eating challenge on Survivor. And I watch going, why not me?
Why not me?
And now that I have balut in my hand, I'm slightly petrified and nauseated to eat this.
So cheers, mate. So what did I crack? I crack this here.
Yes, you crack it. Crack it more.
Crack it more. Okay, okay.
Peel it.
Okay.
Yes.
We have natives telling me how to eat this.
Oh, oh. Oh, that's just. Oh.
Just dump it.
Oh, that is.
Oh.
Oh, there's a fetus in there.
You drank that soup.
You.
Come on, Ryan, drink it. You two drink it.
Well, people do this all the time. Oh, oh. Oh, dear God help us all. People do this all the time. Right?
You have to finish it. Finish the soup.
And then I'm gonna tell you the second step you've done with the soup.
Oh, dear. There's an eyeball in there.
Okay, You.
You crack it more. You peel it. Like half of it. You peel half of it. Yeah, yeah. So do it now. You too.
I'm gonna be on Survivor one day.
Go closer, babe.
Okay. Oh, that is a duck. There's a duck in here. There is a duck in this e.
Okay, I cracked.
You cracked half of it. Okay. And you're gonna go like. Like this and you eat it.
I'm not gonna go like that.
Yes, you're gonna do that and you eat it all.
Really?
Yeah. No, like in one bite. It's huge. Yeah, you go like that and then you eat it. But it's huge.
It's like a.
Come on. You don't want to dissect it, right? You don't want to see it. So you have.
I don't want to see what I'm eating. Okay, So I don't want to see if I'm eating a duck.
So just go like that and you just. Yeah, just swallow it and chew it and digest it. Yes.
So put the whole thing. Is it.
Yeah, you go like. Like that.
Like slurp it.
Yeah.
And is it crunchy.
I don't know, because I haven't eaten the bird. But come on. I thought it.
You just cut us. You said that you did this all the time.
I didn't eat the bird, okay? I didn't eat the bird.
You just said the soup.
Yeah, and the egg and the yolk. That tastes good. All right, come on.
This feels wrong. This feels wrong. I feel like this is outlawed in America.
Yeah, probably is.
I think it has to be animals. Not only animals, but to humans.
It smells, baby. Don't eat the white stuff. Okay?
Don't eat. Which part? Don't eat. But how?
How?
I don't understand how. I eat this.
So you just swallow that hole. You just go like that. How about yours? Can I see yours? Yes.
Oh, it's moving. Mine's moving.
So this part. This is hard. So you don't eat this, but this. You eat that.
You eat this? Yeah, you eat this. But. But you like it? Yeah. Okay. Okay, great. But how do you.
Yeah, you just do that. It's not that hard yet because I got you the one that's than the other ones.
So Ryan's is an old one compared to mine?
No, it's just.
Mine's humongous.
It's just how it's cracked, you know?
Yeah. So don't. Don't feel it anymore. Just swallow it. Because you might see it all.
It's just.
It's huge. Come on, you can do it.
I don't understand how this works.
You're bigger than it. So you can eat it. No, come on.
I feel like I'm in the moment.
Just don't look at it. Just eat it. 1, 2, 3, and then eat it.
Easy for you to say. Mine's alright. Mine's upside down.
Yours is downside up. Like I feel very nauseous at the moment.
You can do it.
What can I pretend that I'm eating?
Pretend it's an egg. Like a boiled egg. Pretend it's a boiled egg.
That's true. It is like a hard boiled egg. So it just except developed with eyes.
You can do it. We'll cheer you.
I don't want you to cheer me. I want you to clean up the vomit.
No, no one's gonna vomit. Okay, Just eat it. Go.
Oh, but some salt.
Salt? Yeah, salt helps bring the salt out. Come on.
No, seriously, what if you might love it? Right? What if.
What if we love it?
What if you love it after that.
Sounds like a mantra for everything, but try everything. You might love it.
No, seriously, what if.
Here's a lady. Boy, you might love it.
I'm quite certain I would not.
Okay.
I just stepped in solid.
So just throw it back and chew.
Yeah.
Like a shot.
Yes.
Let's show up the bag design. All right, we're gonna do this slowly. Ready? Are you really doing tequila style?
I'm not sure.
I'm gonna put it in my mouth and see what happens.
That's what.
You have salt behind them?
Yeah, just chew it. Just.
All right.
Why? It's not coming out.
You have to. You know how you use the straw. That's what you do.
Why does that look so bad?
Everything's okay, Ryan. Okay. This part's just yolk.
You can do it. The yolk tastes good, right?
Tastes like yolk.
Yeah.
Just don't think that it's it.
How about you, babe?
Pretend you can be a dad.
Oh, you're like, almost done. Yours is a lot smaller.
Have you done it? Hey, that's cheating.
It's all hot.
Okay. Is it all white left? Okay, that's good. How about yours, Ryan?
Can I see it?
Is it finished? You still have yolk there. That tastes good, though.
Balloon.
You have to finish it on the camera.
It's just yolk. Lap. You can do it.
It's alright. It's just yolk. Go for it. It's just yolk.
I think he's still chewing it. That's why he's going like that.
So you've never eaten a full bird?
No.
Does it. Nor is it normal to eat the full bird?
What?
Is it normal to eat the full bird?
Well, yeah.
We should have asked it before.
It's normal.
Y. Balloon.
Did you finish it?
I'm. It's just yolk left.
Do you want a spoon?
Yeah.
No, I'll get it from here.
Okay.
Happy Asia. Thank you, Asia.
