Free Amazon Training With Ryan 10/22/14 Part 2

Ryan Daniel Moran walks through selling on Amazon: pick boring repeat-purchase products or mass-media hits, aim for 13% conversion and $20+ price points, and target 3-5 products doing 20 units a day each. He covers the 8-10 week ASM course, the Tribe mastermind for high-volume sellers, and operational basics like freight forwarders and LLCs.

Well, that was just embarrassing.
That was just really embarrassing, actually. So.
I am telling all of you.
What to do.
On the chat. Hold on one second as I get everybody back on.
I'm sorry. So what happened was I was doing a screen share and I went to end the screen share so that we could see each other eye to eye again.
And it said I stopped the broadcast.
So I'm sorry for the confusion.
But we are back and I don't remember what we were talking about. So would y' all do me a favor and just.
Comment below on the pages that you can hear me again, you can see me again. I'm gonna send the backup feed to the Freedom Fast Lane Feedback.
So please forgive.
My my error. I am very embarrassed.
So.
I don't even know where we were, but what we were talking about was in result to. We talked about selling businesses. We have talked about investors, we have talked about.
We have talked about reviews. We talked about analyzing competition.
We've talked about how to.
Analyze if a product has enough volume to go into.
We have talked about the fact that I'm listening to music while trying to hold a hangout that has 500 people on it and answer all of your questions. We've talked about ASM and how it is closing on Friday as well as the tribe. We have talked about how this is the last time we're going to do the tribe and the reason for that is because we're going to move the group into a much more advanced direction. We have talked about how incredibly long my beard is.
And how it's.
Infiltrating.
My collar and my shirt. We haven't talked about that, but I wanted to talk about that so I brought it up. So what we're gonna do now is I'm gonna switch over what I'm gonna do. You guys don't mind if I sit in front of you, do you? So what we're gonna do now is I'm gonna move into Q and A mode and I'm just gonna take your questions rapid fire as much as I can. But again, do me a favor, let me know that you all can see me in the chat box.
All right, cool. Thanks, Michelle, for letting me know. Rebecca Emu.
Anonymous 70 82St. Louis Ryan, thanks for letting me know. We are back. So what we're gonna do. Michelle wants to know what I'm listening to. I'm actually embarrassed to tell you what I'm listening to. I. I'm on a bit of a daughtery quick kick and the reason for that reason that I'm on a Daughtry kick is because he did the. The theme song to the show Utopia, which I was a finalist for and then decided not to participate in.
But if you guys have seen ads for that show, I was a candidate for that and Daughtry did the music for it. Since I went through the process, I'm a little bit addicted to his stuff right now. Forgive me. As I relax in front of you.
Don't you guys want to work with this guy? I mean, who would. Who wouldn't want to do business with this dude? Who wouldn't want to be in a mastermind with this guy? By the way, the tribe mastermind, which is a smaller group of people. If you're at the 500, 500,000, the $50,000 a month level or beyond. I have a special group just for them where we get together in person. What is. What am I seeing? Oh, okay.
They have a special group of people at the $50,000 a month level and beyond where we get together in person three to four times a year and work on each other's businesses. Our first meeting for that is next weekend. So people are flying down to Austin and we're working on each other's businesses with a really, really high level group. And some really cool things are going to come out of that. And that information gets to the big group of people who are first just now building their businesses. So some really, really cool things are happening with the tribe. Some really, really cool things. St. Louis Ryan says doctrine I want my money back. I'm sorry. I'm on a doctrie kick and I was almost on the show that he wrote the music for and I actually really like the song Superman. He has one song that is like legitimately, fantastically written song and it's called.
I gotta take my earphones out because I can't think of it. 1. This is another song.
Shoot. It was on a baseball video game. It'll come to me.
Shoot. Now I gotta find it to prove St. Louis Ryan wrong.
I'm sorry, this is. This actually bothered me. Daughter used to be fantastic. Until he went all. Until he went all mainstream. He has one song that is fantastic and it's called.
I'm sorry, I know we're completely off topic, but we're gonna find this.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute. We're gonna do.
It's called.
All right, I'm gonna find this and send it to you. St. Louis Ryan.
Oh, this is gonna bother me to absolutely no end every time you Turn Around. That's it. That's the song. St. Louis Ryan. Listen to that song. It might change your opinion about Daughtry. Every time you Turn around is a very, very well done.
Rock ballad, if you will. Now back to the show.
Deedee says multitasking can be tricky. You are correct. Dave O says, when I inevitably get to the $50,000 a month level, I'm holding you to that, Dave. When you get to the $50,000 a month level, you can join the Intimate Mastermind, fly to Austin, and we can work on each other's businesses. We do some really, really cool things in this group.
How long does the ASM and tribe training last? If I wanted to get my product listed on Amazon as quickly as possible after completing the course, how long is a reasonable amount of time for someone to put a lot of time per day into it? Great question, and the answer is the the training itself lasts for eight weeks.
Eight or 10 weeks. And.
The live event is in February. So in February we're all going to get together and be working on each other's businesses intimately. And that's the point where you can really be working on it every day for a lot until that point. The ASM course, the eight weeks or 10 weeks of training is very step by step in the sense of like, you need to accomplish this this week and then week two, you need to get this done this week or we ain't talking again. So the course is very structured like that. Once you hit the live event, you're kind of turn loose to build things on your own. And that's the point where not on your own, but that's the point where you're like, you've graduated from building your business. Now it's time to.
Really be growing. So that's the. So in February, after a few months of building your business, that's the point where you're really building it into the stratosphere. Can you also sell through Amazon if you live in Holland? In terms of shipping? Yes, yes, you can. It's just the rules are a little bit differently depending on if you're selling in the US or if you're selling in the European Union or wherever you're selling. The rules are a little bit different. Some people get partners in the U.S. and that's how they sell, or some people just focus on selling to the European Union and that's what they do.
If I don't get in the tribe now, can, can I get involved in the super awesome big level tribe based on regular later volume revenue and the answer to that is yes. You can apply for it@tribeof25.com that's the mastermind, the Tribe of 25. How is your girlfriend's business doing? She's on her way over right now. She actually might make a cameo here on the webinar so you can ask her directly if she shows up. But to be quite honest with you, business really isn't her thing. It's more me encouraging that. So it's a little side thing for her that's a little bit of side income and that's she's happy with that right now. One day I'll help her, you know, blow it up into the stratosphere.
Question from an anonymous 7047, you said that buyers are interested in boring products. Can you elaborate further? For example, products that people buy over and over again are better than one time purchases. Also, what are some items or categories that you should stay away from if you want to sell our business? Things you would want to stay away from would be supplements. Unless they're different than everyone else's. A unique line of supplements can be sold, but white labeling supplements doesn't sell as well.
Like flashy stuff that's seasonal.
Products that have a short shelf life in terms of how hot they are. Like if. If something is based on a Dr. Oz fad or something is based on a Tickle Me Elmo fad, stuff that is dependent on other people's brands. That stuff you want to stay away from.
Are you aware of any success stories from the UK sellers selling in the us? I know they exist. I don't know of them specifically, but there are people that live in the UK that sells successfully in the US. Hey Ryan, ASM3 member from San Antonio just went live October 1st. I'm in the Mastermind from there, but I'm not sure if it's going to get me where I need to go. Are you taking previous ASM members?
Nick? I'm sorry, I'm just tired of answering that question answered a hundred times. The answer is sometimes I do take previous ASM members, but I prefer them to be new people because I can't undo what you've done in your business.
If a competitor has an Amazon bestseller rank in the 600s in the electric Session, is that an okay area for me to get into? Depends on what the electric product is, but if somebody has a BSR of 600, that's usually enough for a very profitable business. Do you need an llc? Yes, I would recommend it.
Are you using a software to Find a product.
Okay, so here's a question that I want to. That I take a little bit of a different approach with, and it is product selection. Okay? So if you're gonna write something down from today's class.
Check this out. Okay. My.
My product creation strategy is not necessarily based on what is selling on Amazon. In fact, I have some of my best product ideas from what's selling well off of Amazon. And I ask the question, okay, how can I provide an awesome channel for people to buy it on Amazon? For example, if you look at what's selling really well in the media, that is a great product to go into. Because if there's mass appeal for something, people do go to Amazon and look for it. And there tends to be less competition for that on something like Amazon because there's less asmers going into it. So I don't always agree with the approach of just find what's hot on Amazon and sell that. I look at what is just hot in general and, and I say, how can I provide a channel for this on Amazon? That's a good place to start a business. But there's nothing wrong with just looking at what's hot on Amazon. But if you could find stuff that is really hot in the mass media or trend that's growing and you want to move that onto Amazon, that's how I started my business. And I think that really set me apart from everybody else who was trying to compete on Amazon. If you guys want me to elaborate on that further, I can just let me know. You want me to mention.
If you live abroad and export goods from the US from China to US how do you get the custom clearance and paperwork? It's a process that somebody else does for you called a freight forwarder. They do that process for you.
Is your drink bottle a good private label? I actually know people who sell these on Amazon and do pretty well. It's not a business I would go into unless I could name.
Four to five other products that would make sense in this market.
So we have a girl in the tribe who's making products for runners. Awesome. And this is her first product is a water bottle for runners. Fantastic. Because you can build, you know, a line of products for runners that aren't just water bottles. Because if you're building a water bottle business, I think you're toast. I don't think you're gonna survive. But if you're building a business of physical products for runners, now we're talking.
It's, you know, think. What does North Face sell products for Skiers and then everybody else adopted them because they were cool for a while.
But if you're just selling a water bottle business, that's not something that I personally would go into.
If someone is ranked 21 and only has 200. Micah, I don't know, man. That's not nearly enough data to be able to tell you if that's a good product to go into or not. Steve, elaborate on what.
I remember that you had a hard time dealing with negative reviews from unfair competitors. How did you handle this issue? We did it by emailing and calling Amazon every day until they did something. And we still have people who do negative activity on Amazon. That is something that you can expect Amazon to crack down on in the next year is going to be the amount of fraud that happens. I think Amazon is finally going to catch on that there's people gaming Amazon and they need to do something about it.
How do you research product names so you're not encroaching on others trademarks? Just do a trademark lookup.
Elaborate on product selection using media. How do you find what is hot on media? You do this by looking at what's being advertised in magazines, what's being advertised on television, what's hot in Google Trends, what has a steady climb up in Google Trends? What do you see advertised on the Internet everywhere that isn't Amazon? That's how you find out what's selling in the mass media.
What's the average success rate of tribe members? I'd say, look, I don't know what the average is, but we have people at every, every level. We've got people who do $500,000 a month and we have people whose businesses are six months old and they're doing $25,000 a month. But the success rate for the tribe members and is higher than people outside of the tribe because they're getting coaching and they're getting consistent help. They're getting people or helping them sell their products. So I don't know what the average is in the group, but the average is higher than if you were not in the tribe.
Would you recommend starting with a generic product that costs less that you can put your logo on or would you recommend spending a bit more up front to create create a completely unique product with your own design? I have a rule. My strategy is I start with something generic and then we put our spin on it. That's probably what I would recommend as well.
Do Matt and Jason try to upsell you anything during the course of the training? No, not that I'm aware of. But at the live event, they have a trip that they put on for a small group of of people. And if you want to go on a trip with them, like one time they did a trip to China to look at, at products to meet suppliers. That's something you can pay to go to. But no, there's. As far as I know, there's no upsells.
Does the product manufacturer put on Amazon labels? The manufacturer puts them on.
Speaking of gaming, Amazon, these crazy long titles seem pretty gamey. Do you think Amazon will discount the value of those going forward? Yes. What other tactics do you think will have a shift based on Amazon changing the way they work? Yes, I think there's. I don't think there's going to be a shift. What I think is going to happen is I think Amazon is going to limit the length of titles. I also think they're going to limit the length of bullets and I think they're going to crack down on images. But I also think that things are. There's going to be different opportunities that open up. I think Amazon is going to also allow some new activities. I think there's going to be more an expansion of Amazon pay per click. I think you're going to see that happen. So I think there's going to be a crackdown, but also there's going to be new opportunities that open up.
Mark from the uk, I asked earlier, but if I buy into the tribe, will I be entitled to a live event in February? No, that's not something that I can do.
The live event is just for people who buy asm. It's not. I don't have any control over that. What is the perfect sale price on Amazon? The highest possible. I know people who are in markets where the average product is like 25 to 35 bucks, but they sell theirs for 75, 90 bucks and they do really well because they're differentiated from the rest of the market.
How long did it take you to grow that beard? I shaved yesterday. Great question, Max. Now that is a relevant question.
Right now. I have corn playing.
That's my Ron Burgundy face. Yes, of course. Of course. I had ribs for lunch. That's why I'm doing this.
Seeing I gotta read your question.
What's a good conversion rate to be going for? 13% minimum, seeing as how I feel like I am completely winging it. Not sure what I'm doing. I'm pretty excited that we are less than $100 away from hitting $1,000 our first month. Nice work, Michelle. Still in the Red. But I wasn't expecting to have a slow climbing seeing as how I your guys English is horrible today, I gotta say.
But Michelle says I'm beyond excited about starting ASM of the tribe. Cool. Michelle, I'm really excited to have you.
Ryan, your podcast covered this topic really well. Thank you very much.
Do I recommend only offering one color on the product or several colors? I recommend starting with one thing and expanding from there.
So guys, let's talk a little bit about.
Max says hot product niche beard wax. No, thank you. Waxing this off would be very painful.
So let's talk a little bit about what the process of the tribe is going to look like. Okay, so before Friday you're gonna sign up for the tribe and there's a link for it on this page. I just pointed to it. Not that you can see where that is, but it's to the right. If you're watching on freedomfastlane.com if you're not watching on freedomfasting.com it's freedomfastlane.com ASM and that's my affiliate link for the tribe. What's gonna happen is I will see that you signed up. I will follow up with you on Monday, if not before Monday, I will welcome you to the tribe. You'll be added to the Facebook group where you introduce yourself. You'll say where you are, you'll say what products you're considering. If you're comfortable with that. The next weekend we hop on our first call and we have a recap of the week, of what the ASM training was about. We then communicate on the ASM forum. You will also meet some of the higher level asmers who are flying into Austin to work with me directly throughout the course. You're going to be on a Google hangout with me every week to go through the training. You'll also have access to me via the Facebook group. You'll have the entire group mentoring you. Old members will come back and say, hey guys, this is where I'm at my business here. Get to this level and the things I'd recommend you focus on.
So you'll have interaction from previous tribe members as well. Then every week we meet and we grow your business. We hit your sticking points. People who say, man, here's where I am, here's what I need to, I need to know what I need to do to get to the next level. And we work with people on the hangouts in order to get them to that next level. There's one guy from the tribe last year who was like man, I just stuck. I don't know what to do. We made one little tweak in his business and two weeks later he was selling 15 to 20 products a day, which is what I consider stage one of business allows him to graduate to the next level. So your hand is held throughout the entire process by me, by people in the hangouts and by everybody inside of the Facebook group. So you are surrounded with success throughout every step of the process. And that is not something that anybody else can offer, especially with the level of success that we have inside of the tribe. Nobody else. Nobody else can offer that. As a result of joining their affiliate link. Fat Derrison. Hello Ryan, how do I sell an Amazon US without a bank account address? This is my challenge. Get a partner who has one and partner with them. That's how you do it. Or sell in your own country.
Z Warrior Hey Ryan, what's your opinion on a product and cell phone and accessories? I would say it's a great opportunity if you're prepared to be very aggressive. It is a very competitive market. Nothing to be afraid of if you want to be aggressive. But you're gonna have to be very aggressive in your marketing and in your review getting process order to compete in that marketplace.
If you find a product that is selling well, only has a few reviews and bad Amazon marketing, but you fear that the sellers are driving traffic to Amazon, would you consider getting that business? Yes, absolutely. Because that means that you can compete on Amazon pretty quickly.
Z Warrior I assume that that is a joke question because I've answered it a thousand times.
Hey Ryan, to you, what are the key characteristics of a successful Amazon seller? Somebody who has a long term approach, someone who is selling a product for at least $20 and someone who has at least three to five products selling 20 units a day each. That's what I would consider successful Amazon. Great question.
I'm ornery today, aren't I? So I'm really tired of answering the same questions twice. So forgive me if I'm being overly ornery. We're going to wrap up here in about five minutes.
So I want to reiterate that amazing sound machine closes on Friday.
And my link is freedomfastline.com asm and.
The tribe starts on Monday and that is really your key to success is that mastermind group that is going to be mentoring you through success. And I can't imagine a better bonus than having several, including myself, multimillion dollar business owners mentoring you on your path to success. We have incredible people come through the group and that is incredibly powerful. When you're part of that group with the level of people that you're in, that will take you to the next level. People all the time tell me that they regret not signing up for the tribe because they didn't get the support that they thought they were gonna get when they signed up with a different affiliate. Just got my finger stuck in my water bottle. That was smart. Ryan.
I'm ASM2 and have a live product. I know you can't undo what I've done. So would you recommend I follow along exactly with the new tribe asmers on my second product? Yes. Then tweak my current product or try improving your product? Yes. That's not what I recommend you do. What's my favorite color? Plaid.
Plaid. Or maybe indigo Cerulean.
Michelle says we started almost a month ago. As far as having actual inventory on Amazon, my husband just started purchasing.
Now that our. Sorry, Michelle. Now that our main product is starting to sell, do we remove all the random items in our store or do we just keep it there? Yes, remove all the random items from your store. I don't quite understand where you're going with that, Michelle. Mitch, what would be the hardest market to get into?
Probably cell phone accessories. And if you have a team of people, do you think a hard market would be too hard to get in? Even if you have people in marketing? No. If you have people with SEO skills and graphic design marketing, you can compete with just about anybody. Mitch. Charles, you're awesome. And he also says you're awesome spelled properly. You're my man, Charles.
Okay, guys, I'm gonna wrap up here.
Do you have any final questions about the tribe.
Or about ASM itself which closes on Friday?
If any last questions about that, I'd be happy to. To answer those.
Right now. Playing is.
Morning Parade. Do you have Morning Parade?
Cool. Ryan, excited to have you in the tribe. Welcome aboard. Okay, guys, freedom fast lane.com ASM is where you need to go to sign up. Tribe starts next week. Thanks for coming to this hangout. If I can be of service to you, you can find me on Facebook. Facebook.com Ryan Daniel Moran.
Mitch says you have a full team.
You have. You've already made four grand on Randomize on Amazon. Fantastic. If you've got a full team, you can compete with anybody.
Alright guys, thanks for coming. I'm just going through your final questions.
All right, guys, thanks so much for attending today's. Today's class. Thanks for the compliments. Anonymous 4737. Hey, y' all do me a favor.
