Five years ago, I was living in my best friend's basement. I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I was a struggling entrepreneur trying to figure this whole game out. And I was going through a hard time because I hadn't figured out the thing, I hadn't figured out the formula. So I put everything I owned into I had like this rebuilt Chevy Cobalt. It was white rebuilt as if it had been in an accident. And it was rebuilt, had a new engine, it barely ran, had manual locks and doors. And it was way past the time when that was normal. And I was struggling as an entrepreneur. I'm living in my best friend's basement and my best friend had this massive library of all these entrepreneurship books and he mentored me. And he basically said, like Ryan, you've got to stop looking for the fly by night idea and you have got to build something real, provide something valuable in the world. And it was then that I started real businesses and started investing the profits. And that was how I have built the life that I have now. And as a result of listening to that advice, I started my first business. I made my money in physical products brands and selling them on Amazon.com and I've now built and sold several companies for more than $10 million in cash received. And I know the impact that Mark, my best friend, had on me of just incorrect, encouraging me on a regular basis. And if you are an entrepreneur that hasn't hit it yet, or you're hustling at this thing, but it hasn't taken off yet, I covet the opportunity to once in a while throw a piece of advice at you like Mark did for me, and to let you know that the highs and lows are normal, that you're not alone in this, that success is possible, that what you do matters, that your success, your happiness, your wealth doesn't just give you the good life, it matters for your kids and your community and your church and everyone around you. And it's good for you to be successful and it's good for you to provide value in the world and you make the world a better place as long as you're providing value and you're planning for the long term.
