Ryan Daniel Moran says it takes about 12 months to hit a $1 million annual run rate, with the first 3-6 months spent deciding on product and market. Most founders quit during this decision phase instead of pushing through to launch.

I've seen on average for somebody who is starting a new business for it to take about 12 months before it becomes a million dollar business. Here's the wild part though. Even in my book I say that the first three to six months are just decision making. It's figuring out what your product is going to be, who your market is, how you're going to launch this thing. It's all these hard decisions that you got to make before you go take a sale. Now if you take that part out of it, the real timeline to CR crossing 80 ish thousand dollars a month or having a million dollar business is less than a year. It's that decision making process. It's all of the buffer work up to launch that is the most difficult part. And a lot of people quit in that period. They quit because they're thinking should I sell this product or this product, I'm just gonna give up. And so they bounce around from opportunity to opportunity rather than just picking one and building the million dollar business.
