In this episode of Capitalism tv, this advice on becoming successful entrepreneur is gonna fly in the face of what most people are doing. But too many entrepreneurs are making this mistake, and it's baking me crazy.
That was hilarious.
I don't mean to sound tr, but before we dive in today, I want to ask you a question. What does success mean to you in the entrepreneurial world? A lot of people confuse success with money. Now, of course, money is part of success. But I can bet that you get into this game, that you start seeking out business opportunities, that you start something on the side, that you're looking for a better life because you want the life part, because the money is the path to living the life that you want. You want to be a capitalist pig because you want something on the other side of that. And I want to stress that right now because there's a lot of people that get into this game that make a lot of money that I would not consider successful. I would not consider someone successful if they make a lot of money and they hate their life. I used to think that the most important thing to success was knowing exactly how to get there. When you was being able to see the path that would lead me clearly to the result. And I found that to be helpful, but not powerful. It can be really helpful to see what the next logical steps you might take are. And coaches or trainings or communities can be really helpful for that. But it's not powerful. Because if there's not something drawing you forward, if there's not a clear vision of what you want, you are going to fail. We have this training, it's called the other half. It is made for people who are just starting out on their journey to success. And in that training, our first lesson is about what you believe. It's about can you visualize, can you see a different way? Do you even believe that it is possible? Because it's been my observation that the people who are really successful believe that success is possible. I have a friend, her name is Brooke Castillo. Five years ago, she was doing pretty good. She was making $300,000 a as a life coach. And her vision, her belief is that she can hit $100 million. Here's the crazy part. She started believing it when she was making 300k and she made 300k for a long time. And she was like, you know what? I think this can be more. I really think this can be $100 million a year business. Here's a clip of her sharing that. Do you know how you're going to get to 100 million.
No. Okay, I don't need to know. Just like you don't need to know about the Indian, right?
Yeah, but you. But how long ago were you doing 300k a year?
4 years. But think about this.
That's crazy.
Let me ask you this question. So when you had your exit, you haven't revealed how much that was for, right? We know it was eight figures.
Yeah.
Okay, so you had an eight figure exit. Let's go back three years ago. Could you have told me how you were going to do that?
Nope. No way.
You know when the recipe comes together, when you get the money, then you know how you did it. That's all. That's when you figure it out. Isn't that crazy? You don't know how you did it until you do it.
So when you're working with people, how do you. Believing hard. Okay, that's great.
Yeah, but it's not just great that it's everything. It's the most important thing.
Because the more important than the model.
Oh, 100%. Because the first model you do isn't gonna work.
I need you to keep talking.
Of course the first model you do is gonna get you to what? And that's where I'm at right now. That same model is not going to get me to 100. I don't have it to 100. It's going to be fun. It's going to be exciting.
So I guess what I'm asking is how do you then figure it out?
You know what you do the next thing and you know what's going to happen. It's not going to work. And then you know what you do. This is like the three step process to making $100 million. Try something, fail. Try something else, fail. Like, that's it. Like, think of how many failures you had to go through in order to succeed.
Like, so many. Seriously, so many.
And how many people after the first one are just like, listen, entrepreneurship is just not for me. The Internet's broken.
I dare you to look up any entrepreneur who you view as successful and find someone who didn't believe it at the beginning. I invite you to look at the really successful capitalists and see if any of them were playing scared. Look, this game is hard. Like, everything's hard. But entrepreneurship is really hard. It requires you to be able to see something different and to enjoy the process of getting there. My buddy Aubrey Marcus has a company called Onit. It's, I think about $100 million a year supplement and performance company based out of here in Austin, Texas. And Aubrey just wanted to start a thing. He just wanted to have a business. And so he started selling some stuff. But along the way he was like, I think this can be more. I think this can be more. But the real secret, I think, to his success is the fact that he knew that it was going to be a process. He knew that it had to be enjoyable along the way. He knew that he had to grow and that he had to expand and that his business was a route for him to grow and expand. And as long as he kept up with the growth, then the business would follow suit. You'll see this reflected in a lot of really successful entrepreneurs where they know that it's going to be a long process and they're committed to getting better and enjoying the process along the way. You hear Gary Vaynerchuk talk about this a lot. You hear him say, it's about the process. I love my process. I'm addicted to my process. I want the process. Can you love your process? Well, that mindset is why he is able to work as much as he does and accomplish as much as he does. Because when you know that it's going to be a long journey, when you know that they're going to be ups and downs and lefts and rights and you're prepared for that, and you know that you're going to have to get better and improve all the time, then that's when you can build something that that lasts for a long time. That's how people like Aubrey have been able to be so successful. Here's a clip of him talking about that journey.
Even if this business that you have gets fucking smashed, you know, you'll learn from that and you'll be better from that and stronger from that. And that experience will be something that'll catalyze and propel you forward. So whatever you're going through, like, the only way to lose is, is to suffer. It's really like, the only way to lose is not to lose your business. It's not to, like, lose. It's not any external metric. Like, the only way you lose is if you project yourself so far out of the present moment that you can't laugh, that you can't take that deep breath, that you can't smile, that you can't joke with your friends, that you can't like, feel good through the process. Because all there is is a process.
Entrepreneurship is an inside out game. It's why I don't think that you can be successful making a lot of money. And hating your life. That's not success. What is going on internally is always reflected out in the real world. It's why I see a lot of entrepreneurs who get an idea or they're selling product and they got something, they have some momentum and then they plateau for freaking ever. They don't plateau because they're missing a strategy. They don't plateau because they're missing a person. The only reason is because the way that they're approaching it, their process for doing it is keeping them stuck. And most of us define our processes based on what is going on inside. It's usually fears that are lingering around in our brain that are keeping us from taking the risk or being creative or building the thing that would be valuable to other people. I would be willing to bet that most entrepreneurs, most of us who are crazy enough to take the risk of starting a business with the idea that we're going to be successful, we have things in our past that we are that are still driving us. A really good example of this is my friend Bedros Kyulian. And Bedros is really open and public about the things that he discovered were holding him back when he had plateaued. He had been an entrepreneur, but not a successful one. Smart, successful entrepreneurs are insightful enough to say, what am I doing? What is going on with me that is causing this problem to recur over and over and over again? And then they get rid of it. They do something about it. And sometimes that can involve self exploration or therapy or journaling or mentors or however you decide to grow. Bedros tells his story about the fact that he realized that old fears were keeping him stuck at a level that didn't match what his potential was. And when he started to address that, then the world opened up for him. Do you have an end game?
Yes. The end game is to keep myself as busy as I am today. Because I'm one of the most self destructive people on the planet. I am. I truly will find holes to dig in my life. And I was talking to JP about it back there. And so my end game is to constantly keep myself busy serving others until I do my hundred years and die. It's that simple. I want to leave legacy wealth. I want to obviously be the biggest donator to Shriners Children's Hospital. Currently it's Justin Timberlake. Fuck that guy. No, I love Justin. Great guy. Obviously there's all this money that we want to donate. We've got 108 people, kids now adopted through Compassion International. All that stuff is great. But all that is to keep myself sane and to keep myself from digging holes. Look, man, between the ages of 4 and 6, I was molested by two older boys in Armenia. When my parents. When my parents decided to escape to the United States, they thought they were giving me freedom to come to this country and become whatever I want. They don't. They didn't really. They still don't know they're alive. That they freed me from constant and daily molestation by two older boys. And when you're constantly molested between those formidable years of four and six, you grow up and you have a chip on your shoulder. And the reason I went and worked with a therapist is because of my anxiety attacks that started about six years ago, right? And he helped me get over my anxiety attacks by teaching me four letters. Hungry, angry, lonely, tired. Halt. When you're hungry, angry, lonely, tired. A drug addict is likely to go back to drugs. An alcoholic is likely to go back to alcohol. An anxiety. Someone who's anxious is likely to have that anxiety attack. I'm like, alright, check fixed in four weeks. Problem solved. As I'm walking out of his door, and I'm like, bye, Kevin. See you later. He goes, bedros, is there anything else you want to talk about? And I pretty much broke down crying, right? Cause I had held this thing deep inside me for 30 at the time, 32 years that this had happened to me. And we spent the next 16 months, every single Monday, working through that trauma. But the reality is we put on these filters. We see life differently. I saw life through rage, shame and confusion. I was fucking angry. Why did this happen to me? Right? I was angry. Why did this happen to me? Shame. Oh my God, I can't believe this happened to me. Like, no one can find out this happened to me. A big brawny guy. How could this have happened to me as a kid, right? Like, I gotta be big and strong, protect myself, protect everybody. And I realized I'm a natural protector for that reason, right? And then. And then the confusion, shame, rage and confusion. Am I gay? Am I? Am I gay? Like, shit, I might be. Did I do something as a little boy to attract that? Fix your wounds. We walk around life with all these wounds on ourselves from the trauma that happened to us. And we bump into each other and I'm like, ow. Ryan, what the fuck, man? You hurt me. You didn't hurt me. I've never fixed my trauma, right? You're like, hey, Bedros, how are you? Looking good. I'm like, what the fuck do you mean by that? When in reality I just haven't fixed myself.
There are three steps to being a successful entrepreneur. You own something because you can't get rich without owning a piece of a business. You create new stuff, you bring new ideas to life. You create stuff that other people want and you serve your customers. You serve a specific group of people with that solution. I can tell you it is impossible to become a successful entrepreneur when you are operating from a place of being scared or feeling like you're held back or not worthy, dare I say, because you can't create from a place of abundance if you feel scarce. You can't serve people if you're afraid. You can't own things if, if you're playing it safe. So there are smart ways to do this. There are predictable paths to success, but you can't pursue any of them if there are things holding you back like fears and insecurities. And so rather than sit here and talk about the step by step method to become a successful entrepreneur, it is more about creating the space within your life and within yourself for you to be able to create something that excites you and for you to be able to have the capacity to serve a lot of people. The reason for that is because when you operate from that place, people start showing up for it. And if you don't buy into those BS beliefs that you bought into earlier in life, like I don't have enough money, I'm not ready, I'm not good enough, I'm not smart enough, or even things like I don't have the right idea or I need an investor first or it's gotta be perfect, or I don't have this resource or I don't have the partner or any of those things that have driven you up into this point. You can't be a successful entrepreneur when you stop caring about what the end result is and you start caring about the process while still believing that that end result is coming. That's when you're powerful and that's when you're free. That is when you are truly free to go be and create and do and have whatever it is that you want. That's when you're a successful entrepreneur, not when you find the right three step method. Because I give one person the three step method and I give another person a three step method. This person says I'm a scam artist. This person makes $100 million. That has happened. Like I, I don't know of many people who have helped as many getting started entrepreneurs as me become millionaires. I know very few who can even. Who can even compare themselves to the track record we've had@capitalism.com and yet there are people I can give the exact same information to. And they'll say, you're a scam artist. You're a slick oil salesman. Well, what's different? The strategy was the same. It's you. That's what's different. The person's different.
The.
The mindset and the approach of the person who is taking in the information. That's why information will not take you from here to here. It can create an insight that allows you to move forward. But if you don't feel free to move forward, you're toast. I know this is heavy stuff. I know this isn't what you expected when you clicked on this video. If you'd like some help, we have a few trainings that I think will be really beneficial for you. If you're first starting out, you should go through our training, which is called the Other Half. There's a link for it right here. And that will set you on your journey and it will allow you to navigate this with more ease, more freedom, more creativity, which is really, really going to increase your chances of success. If you're already over a million dollars, you should apply for the back room. And we'll be working together on you and how your business grows once you start to grow. Thanks for watching.
