People ask me a lot about going after their goals and how to achieve something that they think is really impossible. Getting what you want isn't this big lofty thing that is all that super hard. The difference between the people who achieve incredibly enormous tasks and people who really do nothing with their lives is usually about a 2 inch tweak in strategy. The difference really is, is the people who go after and get what they want are those who made some decision a long time ago that they were actually gonna go for what it is that they want. And I don't care if what you want is a billion dollars or if it's the relationship that you always wanted or if it's to be governor. I don't care what your crazy goal is or what it is that you want. The difference between the people that actually get what they want and the people who sit on their couches all day is that the people who actually got what they wanted did something. They made some sort of movement towards what it is that they wanted. You know, getting what you want is actually a pretty simple process. Comes down really to few simple tweaks in your strategy. First, you've got to be really, really clear on what it is that you want. And again, I don't care what it is that you're going after. What's important is that you get incredibly clear on what it is that you want out of your life. I like to tell people that if you don't decide what you want out of life, then life will decide what you get for you. Most people live their lives just taking life as it comes, just believing that life happens to them, believing that they don't have any power to change the circumstances that they're in. And that's a bunch of bs. The truth is that life is totally being co created through you on a 247 basis. And everything that's in your life right now, the good and the bad and some aspect you're choosing. And I don't mean that all bad things have been attracted to you by your thoughts. I'm not a big believer in that type of mentality. What I mean is that when you wake up and you go to the job every day that you hate or don't hate, you're choosing that every day when you wake up and people will argue with that point and they'll say, they'll say, oh no, I have to go to this job, I have to go do this thing, I have to be in the relationship. You don't understand, I'm stuck here. No you don't understand that every day that you wake up next to that person, you've chosen to wake up next to that person at any moment. You could choose to get out of that, and there'll be consequences if you stay in it, and there's consequences if you get out. The difference is which one have you chosen? Which one have you chosen today? So step one in getting what you want, it's really simple. It's just being really, really clear on what that thing is and allowing your brain to see it. Because the minute you decide on what it is that you want, something weird happens. And every successful person, regardless of if they're a conservative Christian or an apathetic atheist, it doesn't matter. All successful people that I know have this belief that once they decide on something, things just get out of your way and things open up for you to be able to go after that thing. Even Will Smith has a great quote that I like. He says, the universe is like water. The minute that you make a decision to go after something, the universe, you know, it wants to go around you. It wants to get out of your way. When you're in motion, things just start to line up and fall into place. What most people do, though, is they never believe it's possible, so. So they never take the step forward in order to go after what they want.
When you have decided exactly what it is that you want, the next logical thing is to simply cut out the things that aren't serving you. An exercise that I love to do and recommend is simply to take out a sheet of paper and to write down something that you really want. Then to look at all the things that you're spending time on, all the people that you're spending time with, all the things that you're thinking about on a regular basis, and put a check mark or an X next to the things that are supporting or detracting from that thing that you want. You'll be amazed at the things that are sucking energy out of the things that you want, are taking you off course towards that thing. And. And you know what's interesting is the minute you start cutting those things out, you open up this space in order for new things to come in. There was a time in my life where I felt like I had no time to go after the things that I wanted until I turned off my Facebook account. And all of a sudden I had like two hours extra. Now, was I sitting there for two hours? I didn't think so, but all of a sudden I had two hours of New time because I wasn't distracted all the time by hitting refresh every five seconds or that person. That's just an energy suck. The minute you eliminate that, you don't just eliminate that person from being a negative detractor from your goals. You actually get this, like this new space for something else to come into your life to support that goal. And then the third step after you've cut out the things that are holding you back is to identify one thing that you can do in order to move towards that goal. You know, there is this myth that in order to achieve something great, there is a quantum leap. There is this. This jump from where you are now directly to where you want to go. And that doesn't exist unless you win the lottery, which isn't going to happen. I'm sorry. There's this myth that there's a jump from one place to another place, but really, success is only constant growth. That's all there is. There are only small actions that take you from where you are to where you ultimately want to be. Small decisions, small actions that build on top of one another towards something. You know, for me, usually my first step towards doing what I want is you using something like social media to my advantage is I'll put out there what I'm going after on something like Facebook, and all of a sudden I'll get a flood of people that want to support that. And now I've put it out there, so I'm held accountable. I have to do something about this now, right? I have to start taking steps towards this now. And the more you announce that to people, the more that people come into your life to support that. It's interesting. I have a friend who says one of the scariest things, things that you can do is not deciding on what it is that you want, but announcing what it is that you're going after. Because the minute you do that, you actually make yourself vulnerable to it actually happening. And that's scarier than it not happening. And when you announce that you're going after something, that you want something, things just start to show up. That's what happens when you put it out there. And again, I'm not saying putting it out into the universe and the universe gives it to you. I'm not a big believer in that philosophy. I mean, putting it out there to people who have connections, you'll be amazed at the resources that you find out that you have. When you start to align them all towards one thing, towards something that you want, it's amazing what happens. When you cut out everything and all the resources that you have start lining up towards what it is that you want. My name is Ryan Moran.
