How to Grow An Amazon Business Into A Real Brand

Ryan Daniel Moran (Capitalism.com) presents a short talk describing a workshop called "eight figure exits" focused on turning Amazon sellers into businesses that are real, sellable brands. He argues that selling on Amazon alone does not make one an entrepreneur; sellers must build audiences, own customer relationships (emails), launch to small groups, create great products, and market beyond Amazon to create repeat customers and an asset that can be acquired (eight-figure exits). Moran plans to teach this model more broadly and invite small cohorts to his lake-house workshops.

Hey, what's up, guys? I am just coming back from the gym. I'm coming out of a gym slump. It's time to get my body back. This is for you. Amazon sellers specifically. I just came back from. I had a workshop at my lake house where I invited people who follow me to come to a workshop that I call eight figure exits. And it's all about building a business to sell. So we lay out the model of what it looks like to build a business that is sellable and then kind of reverse engineer all the things that need to happen in order for you to be acquired. And everybody in the room was an Amazon seller.
So I'm going to talk to those of you who sell on Amazon because I think a lot of you are missing really big, obvious opportunities. You know, I have never considered myself to be an Amazon seller. I'm an entrepreneur and they are different. You might think they're different because there's a lot of YouTubers who are talking about being an entrepreneur by selling on Amazon. But just because you take sales on Amazon doesn't mean you're an entrepreneur. This is, this is why I hate that term, Amazon business. There's no such thing. You are a business that sells on Amazon. And there's a difference. If you want to be acquired, if you want to build a business that is really profitable and that lasts, you have to look at your business like an owner, not like someone who's in the weeds tinkering around on Amazon. If you want to be super profitable, if you want to be profitable from the moment you go into business, if you want to have the eight figure exit, if you want, if you want to rule Amazon, you have to do more than just understand what the metrics are on Amazon. If you're using Jungle Scout and all kinds of tools to find out what a good product is to sell. And that's the only thing you're doing to justify what it is that you're selling. You're missing the picture. Use tools like that in order to optimize your business, not run your business. You don't use the numbers and internal metrics to determine the direction of your business. You set the direction of your business. That's what makes your business unique and that's what creates value. So Amazon is a piece of your sales channel. So what does all this mean? What does all that mean? It means that you have to think about your business bigger than just the Amazon platform. The way you convert an Amazon business into a real business that can be acquired is by identifying who the person is that you are selling to and serving them directly on more than just Amazon. And that doesn't mean building a shopify store. It means going out and getting your message and your product in front of them before they ever go to Amazon.com the onits of the world, the Quest Nutritions of the world, the bulletproof coffees of the world, the Kleenex of the world, the honest companies of the world, the RX bars of the world, the Kellogg's of the world. Don't just optimize for Amazon. If you want to be really successful, you have to build your business like the big businesses. That's where the magic is. Even if you don't want to have a billion dollar exit, if you don't want to be a billion dollar company, if you don't want to be a billionaire, you will still get way farther by looking at what big companies do building your business like that rather than just wondering what's a good product to sell.
So that is how you rule Amazon, by building a real business. Because if you build a real business, you get repeat customers, you get happy reviewers. Amazon ruling Amazon becomes the spillover effect of you dominating your customer base. That's how you win. You know, Quest Nutrition sells a whole lot of Quest bars on Amazon. It's not because they do Amazon pay per click and rank for keywords.
It's because they got a really great frickin product and they know their audience and they do marketing well. And they started as a small little company, launched to a Facebook group.
Basic like 101 stuff that we teach.
Get a good product, launch it to a little small group, do your listing well, get happy customers, get reviews, launch more products.
Build an audience, get their email address, build a brand.
Raise your prices.
That's how it works, that's how you build a real company.
There's some really good like braingasmic moments that happened. The workshop of people coming in, you know, who are selling 30 to $40,000 a month, which is great.
You know, they might be taking home, I don't know, 80 to 100k a year, that's fine. But what they got was they came in thinking their ceiling was here and with some like incremental changes they could get here. But what they saw was we had this shift of how to turn it into a real business. And they saw the whole thing open up. And somebody said to me, he's like, man, you know, I really see now how I have a 10 million dollar a year business. And I was like, he Got it. He got it. So this was an experiment to see if I like teaching that model. And I think we're gonna keep doing it. So.
We'Re going to do a couple more and we'll share more details@capitalism.com 8 and invite groups of 10 or 15 people to my house and talk about how to manufacture an eight figure exit. But I have decided I don't want to teach it to just Amazon sellers.
It's not an Amazon model. Amazon's a piece of the model. If you're. So the model is going to be all about building a business for an eight figure acquisition because those are the businesses I want to acquire. I was just talking with somebody today about raising a fund to invest in businesses and I was talking to somebody else today about buying the businesses. So I'm just going to be teaching the model of the types of businesses that I would invest in and that I would buy. And they're not Amazon businesses. People don't want to buy Amazon businesses unless they're doing $10 million on Amazon and you've got a huge moat around that business. You people want to buy brands, man. They want to buy brands, not income. Your income stream is not the thing that people are buying. They're buying the asset. Their job as an entrepreneur is to build assets that other people value and can be acquired. I'm going to big old business land, so I'll wrap this up. But we're gonna be built. We're gonna be showing people to build the type of businesses that I want to buy and invest in because those are the same types of businesses that when you build them, you get the eight figure exit. So we'll be sharing more details over@capitalism.com 8 I'm excited to teach this ongoing.
What else? I think that'll pretty much do it. I'm really excited about what we're doing@capitalism.com really excited. The 1% is really shaping up to be a special little community of a few thousand aggressive entrepreneurs. And the eight figure exit workshop is going to change a lot of lives and businesses. And my back room will be the place where people are, you know, building those businesses to sell. Excited about our model. We're up to really cool things. All right, I'm out. Thanks for watching. Let me know what you thought in the comments. Have a good night or day or wherever you are in case I don't see you. Good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
