People say that money is the root of all evil. But here's what the Bible actually says about money. This passage for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil is first Timothy 6:10. But that root phrase for the love of money comes from the Greek word filagria. And it's the only time that word is used in the Bible. If we look at what that word is translated to, it most closely matches the idea of insatiable desire. It's like a need that can't be filled. When there is a perception of lack, you will do anything to fill it. That is what is being referred to as the love of money. The insatiable need, the never enoughness, the constant feeling of lack is the root of all kinds of evil. So it's not about having money or liking money. It has nothing to do with being rich. It has everything to do with the feeling of lack that people have regardless of their financial status. And the stress that we feel about money making us feel safer or more complete or more whole. It's that addiction to the belief that if I just had enough money, then my life would be better. That is the insatiable desire that is filagria. That is what is the root of all kinds of evil.
