In this monologue aimed at e‑commerce founders, the speaker argues that most founders fail at marketing because they obsess over product features, benefits, and pricing instead of the customer's desired life and story. He claims that good marketing should focus on the end result for the customer, understanding their aspirations better than competitors. By positioning the product as a natural fit within the customer's personal narrative, founders can build a loyal audience that buys into the story rather than the product itself. This approach, he says, eliminates the need to sell features, enables consistently successful launches, and can scale a modest customer base into tens of thousands of dollars in monthly sales and a seven‑figure business within a year.

E Commerce founders are the worst marketers in the world. And it's because they're talking about their product all day long. They're talking about their features and their benefits and their pricing and it has nothing to do with the customer at all. Good marketing doesn't talk about product. It talks about the end result for the customer. And when you're in E Commerce, you've got a product that you want to talk about all day long. And so you sit there thinking about all the ways that you could talk about your product. That's just not how most business and most marketing is done. It's about people. That means that you have to understand the person who's buying way better than your competitors. But the good news is E Commerce entrepreneurs are so bad at this that you only have to be like average to be better than almost everybody. So the way that you win is not by talking about your product. It is by talking about the person that is buying the product and the life that they want to live and the story that they're in. And then you relate the product to that story. If you do that, you don't need to talk about product at all. You, you will build up a loyal group of customers that buy into your story because your story is their story. If you get good at that, you don't need to sell features and benefits. You sell the vision of the life that the customer wants to live and how your product fits into that. That's how you build an audience that is really responsive. And if you do that, you can have a customer base of a few hundred people and smash every launch, get every product you want to tens of thousands of dollars a month in sales and build a seven figure business in 12 months. That's the game, that's the play.
