Ryan Daniel Moran grew up in Cleveland chasing a simple goal: $100 a day. He hit it fast, then scaled that cash flow into bigger businesses. He walks through the models that worked, including one friend's wholesaling operation doing $7M a year at 30% margins, and explains why he's now betting on physical product brands.
Chapters
Good morning from beautiful Cleveland, Ohio. This is where I'm from, this is where I grew up. And I am a home visiting family. And I wanted to make a video for you to recap a shift that happened for me when I lived here that I hope will give a shift to you as well. When I was growing up, when I was kid, I dreamed of a different life than my family had. My family had. You know, we grew up, we grew up on government programs. My parents split when I was fairly young and that affected me more than I think it affects most kids. And we didn't have much. We didn't splurge on vacations, we didn't splurge on restaurants. I was very loved as a kid. But we, you know, I wanted more than what I grew up with. And I remember always wanting to be an entrepreneur because I wanted to have a different life than my parents had, a different life than my peers had. And I remember thinking to myself, when I was 17 or 18 years old, if I could just make a hundred dollars a day, if I just had an extra, extra hundred bucks a day, I could have a very different life. I might still work full time, I might still have other things going on, but an extra hundred bucks a day, that would be like, that would be amazing.
That would change everything.
It's funny, when I started my first business.
I had a goal of earning $100 a day within a year of working, within a year of that business. And what happened was I achieved $100 a day after four days. Four days. And maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, or maybe I just went for it. Maybe I just tried something and I was part of the 1% of people who hears an idea, who hears something and tries it and does it. I know so many people who hear a good idea or want a different life, but it's something like 1% of people who learn something, do something with it. 1%. And it's that 1% of people who do something about it that actually put themselves in a position. They give themselves the shot at getting a different result. It's amazing.
And that hundred bucks a day turned into later $1,000 a day and later turned into laying the stage for a career and a business that would make me millions of dollars. Now you don't have to be an entrepreneur to get those kind of results. I'm at my brother's house and he just moved into a brand new place. You can see the house, it's like a, you know, 8,000 square foot house or something. It's crazy. And it needs to be totally remodeled. And, you know, it's in Ohio, so it's not like it's the property values of California or Austin, Texas, but you don't. You don't have to be an entrepreneur to get those results. But there's, like, a group of us. There's a group of people who just want it on our own terms, who just want it differently than everybody else had it. And so that means, at the very least, taking responsibility for the results that we get, hearing a good idea and tackling it and going for it, and knowing it's going to be hard and going through all of the difficulties that we know it's going to take. And there's a bunch of different ideas out there. Like, there's a thousand different ways to make 100 bucks a day or a thousand bucks a day. And I used to be in the position of.
Looking for the. The best one or trying to. I used to kind of demean the cash flow models, if you will, rather than building a business, because I've built companies and sold them. And what I've realized now is that was not the right thing to do because I started out just looking for the extra 100 bucks. I didn't care how I got there. I just wanted my extra 100 bucks a day so that I could invest it and grow it and go on to the next thing. And that's what happened. And there's arbitrage plays, there's wholesaling plays, there's selling things on Amazon. They're selling affiliate products. They're selling information products. There's consulting. There's all these different models, and all of them work. All of them work. It's the person.
That makes the difference. It's the person that does the work. And there are. There's a hundred different models, hundred different cars. It's the driver that matters. It's the driver who makes the difference. I have a buddy who I've been talking. I just had him on the podcast. His name is Dylan. He has what I think is, like, the simplest model. And I'm always amazed at, like, how an entrepreneur makes a buck. Right? This pond needs to be cleaned. It's gonna be.
But my buddy Dylan.
Has, like, this easiest, like, it's like this. This model that I'm really fascinated with right now. And basically what he has is. Does about $7 million a year in sales at about 30% profit margin. So that's like 2 million bucks a year, maybe a little less, right? About 2 million bucks a year in profit. And there's no reviews, none of his own products. All he does is find good companies that are already selling good products. And he takes over the management of their inventory and keeps it on Amazon, improves their listings a little bit, make some relationships. If you listen to his podcast, he's like, my day usually starts, I wake up my kids, I play some video games, and then maybe a client will call.
And those are great starting points. Those types of simple businesses where the cash flow is really obvious. It requires you to jump in the game, there's a predictable end to it, and that gives you the cash flow to go put into the next thing. I like having a primary source of income, like a primary focus and then a side thing that is your cash flow. You invest the cash flow. You invest the cash flow into stocks, real estate. Things are going to create more cash flow and more wealth over time, and you increase your lifestyle that way. And you have your primary thing, which might be a job, it might be a business, it might be a company that you're building. So, for example, my primary focus is I'm building. I'm building an investment fund for physical products brands, and I have a portfolio of physical products brands. And then my side hustle is this right? Like, I share with you what I learn. So for some people, having a business, or actually it might be a job, and then having the thing on the side that allows them to have some cash flow while they store up reserves is exactly what they need. Or I know people who are building a business right now, but the cash flows in the business aren't there yet. So they need, like the side thing that generates the extra cash so that they can do both at the same time. So I like the model of having your primary focus on something and then you have something that is just there to create cash flow and you invest that cash flow. If you listen to the podcast, the model that I outlined with Dylan might be one to consider. If it's a cash flow model that you still need in order to support whatever thing it is that you want to focus on moving forward. I am making a big pivot in my career over to being an investor.
That's my jam. My real jam is I invest in physical products brands, I invest in entrepreneurs. I am basically like my own shark tank, if you will. And I invest in entrepreneurs who are up and coming. And one of the things that I have considered is investing in somebody who's going to manage and run. The model that I outlined with Dylan on my podcast. I Asked him on the show, I was like, give me a reason why I shouldn't do this. He's like, I think you should. He's got a little bit of a Kentucky drawl. That was my Kentucky impersonation. I think you should, Ryan. And so I've been thinking about maybe sponsoring an entrepreneur or two who find some good opportunities. So he has some training that he sells. That's his side hustle. That's his cash flow thing. He and his partner Dan, do some training for entrepreneurs. So what I'm gonna do is I'm promoting his little program, and I'm gonna do a bonus for anybody who uses my link to join over the next couple of days. And if you join, then I'm gonna put together a little Facebook group. I'm not gonna do any coaching. I'm not gonna do any mentoring, because I am personally not gonna go into the business. It's not my primary model. It's just a way to communicate with other people who are doing that model. And if someone brings me an opportunity as a way of maybe being an interesting investment, then I would put up the money, the entrepreneur would do the work, and we'll split it. We'll be business partners. It doesn't mean I'm going to partner with everybody. It just means that I'm open to putting up the money if somebody brings me an interesting opportunity and it's the right type of person, and that's really important. So we would have to have, you know, we would have to have a relationship over time, and that's what the Facebook group would be for. Probably be like a hundred people or so. So there might be somebody in your town that you connect with or somebody on the Internet that ends up being a business partner, and you can do it on your own. But the idea is to put together a little group of people who are building up this cash flow model and me finding one or two investment opportunities to sponsor, and you also being in the position to build the model yourself. So, you know, over the next couple years, you've got your. Your cash flow, and you're building other things that you're really proud of, and you're building a life that you're really excited about. So I'll have my link around this video, and I will also be sending out emails letting you know about the bonus. So if that. If that draws your attention, then that's what I'm gonna be doing over the next couple of days.
It's a really exciting journey to go on when you decide that you're just going to take responsibility, take ownership for the results you're going to get. And when you do that, it opens up any area of life that you want to change and improve. And that's when you are the 1% of people who does something and the 1% of people who gets the top results that you want out of life rooting for you. Thanks for watching. Talk to you soon.
