Transcript of a short Q&A monologue by Ryan Daniel Moran (Capitalism.com) addressing Facebook advertising. Moran argues that advertising effectiveness depends chiefly on message and sales process—not the medium—and that profitable advertising must align with customer lifetime value and precise targeting. He notes Facebook’s strengths (targeting, scale) but stresses they only matter when combined with a solid sales process and message.

Josh Gleave asks, what are your thoughts on Facebook advertising? My thoughts on Facebook advertising are the same as my thoughts on any type of advertising. It goes a lot deeper than just where you are putting your products and where you're putting your message. It comes down to what is the message that you're giving them? Is it connecting with the people who are there? Is your targeting on point? Ultimately, the question is, can you advertise profitably, given your lifetime value of the customer? So one of the things that people get wrong is they think that it's all about the medium rather than the message and the sales process. Whereas if you have a really good message and a really good sales process, that can be put almost anywhere and it will, it can take off. So your sales process and the message is what's most important. And then you can custom tailor it to the advertising platform that you are using, whether that is Facebook or YouTube or Pinterest or wherever you're putting your message. So Facebook advertising is fantastic because you have amazing targeting and you have unlimited traffic, but it is only as good as a sales process. And the message that you put in front of it, it.
