You were saying?
Well, yeah, I don't know. I mean, I feel like a lot of the tools, I haven't really looked at them at all. But I mean, what I've seen, some seem to work and they say maybe people think it work and they actually aren't.
I don't know.
They work for some people is basically the line.
So, I mean, I guess I kind of want to focus on a few things and do the best I can at those instead of trying to do a little bit of everything. And, you know, I mean, maybe in the end, you know, in a couple months, I'll work up to maybe doing everything and trying everything. But to start, it's like, I guess it's overwhelming to worry about doing eight different things.
Sure. All at once. Here's what we found, Jordan. That the 8020 here is just getting your product to rank on Amazon. I mean, obviously this is the end goal for everything. So if any of these things don't achieve that end result of getting you to rank on Amazon, ignore it to start. Things like YouTube videos.
I don't know. Other promotions that don't achieve that goal you can ignore to start. And if you want to do them later, great. The things that affect your ranking when you start is getting reviews, getting seller feedback, and making sure that you have awesome conversions. That's how you rank on Amazon. The things that you can focus on should be centered around those things.
Okay.
The allergies. If you guys are watching this and you're coming on Thursday, if you have any allergies or if you've ever even heard of an allergy on tv, bring Zyrtec with you when you come to Austin. I don't know about Todd, our other resident Austin, but I'm getting my butt kicked. The allergies in Austin are so bad that the next Spider man movie, Austin, allergies are the enemy. He's just walking around fighting his allergies. Whole movie. That's the basis of the plot. Anyway.
My Amazon businesses are kind of in this weird hold right now because Todd can't hear us. He can't hear my joke. Can you believe that? Todd says he can't hear anything.
Put in headphones.
Did Sean do something to him again?
I don't think so.
Maybe.
So. Both of my.
Amazon businesses are having a hard time keeping inventory. So we're almost out of the woods with both of them. But with a supplement business, nobody could fulfill. Like, nobody had inventory. And so we had to wait for them to make new inventory. Hi, Leslie. And with the yoga Business. We can only keep 500 in stock at a time because they're oversized, and so we have to sell out and restock. But we just found a way around it by having a menu or by having a warehouse keep inventory on hand. So that's a bit of a pain in the rear.
But all other things are good. Leslie, how's business?
I am currently actually, as we speak, putting my shipment to ship it to Amazon today.
Congratulations.
Thanks.
So hopefully it's in inventory, but are you coming to Austin or are we going to miss you?
I'm not coming to Austin.
Okay. So email us if you make sales. Email the tribe if you make sales while we're all together, and we'll have a drink in your honor.
Okay, cool.
We'll have your drink of choice in your honor.
Nice.
Make a sale while we're there.
I'm gonna have to decide whether I'm gonna have you guys doing shots of whiskey or just drinking a beer.
Well, I'm looking at my bottle of Jack Daniel's honey whiskey over here, which is my drink of choice, but not shots. It is a gentleman's drink. You do not do shots of Jack Daniels. Many philosophical conversations have been had over Jack. You do not shoot whiskey. That makes me angry. Anyway.
Jordan, what do you think? Like, the. What do you think?
Since you were talking about the things that you want to be focused on, what do you think those things are for you? Since you obviously looked at all the tools and are considering a bunch of promotion tactics, what do you think is your best route of action for getting started?
I mean, Amazon ads for sure, once I get some reviews, maybe 10 or so, I think that's, I guess, the number one in my mind.
I think the Google AdWords and all that is a little. I mean, I've never done that, and I think it's a little risky because some people say it worked great and some people don't. Eventually, I'll experiment with Facebook.
But then again, that's more testing, too. So to me, Amazon is a lot easier because it's all within and people are obviously already searching for it. And I see other asmers doing it who are selling my products, so it's obviously doing something for them.
And other than that, I mean, I kind of. It's just like everything. I mean, I don't know, everything seems. I could try some, and I feel like some might work, some might not. So it's all. That's kind of testing, too.
So, yeah, Amazon ads are great. Everybody should use them. But the inventory is a Bit low. Adwords isn't risky because you can start at $5 a day if you want. So if you were to do another paid medium, I'd recommend that one. But definitely do Amazon ads or I'll pee on your lawn and.
Do a giveaway with everybody and their sister.
Or major discounted. Those are the two things that everybody should do.
Yeah, I'm kind of hoping my reviews. I mean, I'm planning on giving quite a bit away, so I'm hoping my reviews, I try to have them kind of trickle in so it's not like all of a sudden, you know, 30 reviews in two weeks, you know, or whatever a week and get them to trickle in kind of. And then hopefully I can get just. I mean, obviously we want all ranks, so hopefully that 50 or whatever. So reviews that can get me going where I don't have to worry about anything, really.
50 reviews is kind of a bit of a tipping point.
Yeah, like 50 views.
You're a player.
Yeah. And for my product, I mean, there's some ASMRs who have maybe 80 right now who started, you know, in March or whatever. So I know and I know what I mean. One of them selling probably 30 at least a day. So.
I'm confident that If I get 50, then I'll be up there somewhat.
So, yeah, that'll do it. So we had a. An interesting happen this week. I think you guys saw it in the Facebook group.
We had a competitor see us starting to climb up in the rankings, so they started flagging all of our reviews so that they would get removed. So Amazon's been deleting our reviews because competitors going in and going spam, spam, spam, spam, spam. And they're not. They're all real reviews. And so we're actually fighting this battle right now with. With this competitor that's being a. The technical term is a punk ass is what he's doing. I'll keep you posted on that. It's very interesting.
Ryan, is that with your fish oil product?
No.
That got flagged for a different reason.
One of our customers said in the review, I take fish oil because it's a nice preventative for cancer, and then finish the rest of their review. Amazon flagged the listing as being marketed as a cancer cure.
So we had to go back and forth with Amazon and be like, we are not marketing this as an Amazon cure. We have removed all language that refers to cancer, and that is pending. My supplement business and the yoga business, it was a different product in the supplement business. Have all had problems this week, but they're all temporary, and they'll all go away in a couple days.
Okay. Because I went to put in my review for the fish oil, and I couldn't find the listing.
Yup.
That's because it's flagged as a cancer product, even though it is not.
Oh, the joys of business.
This was one of those weeks where.
Where.
What's the line from Big Lebowski? Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes the bar eats you. This week, the bar ate me. And on all of them, it's just stuff happens, and you wait for them to change, and when they do, you get back at it, and that's kind of where they are. Jesse James Ayers.
Hey.
The party can start now that I've heard your voice.
Good morning. How are you?
You're coming in on Thursday, right?
Yes, sir.
Okay, cool. If you want, you can text me when you arrive. And if we're not meeting yet, I can come swing by if you don't have anything.
Awesome. Sounds good. Yeah, I should be there pretty early on Thursday.
Okay, cool. Looking forward to seeing you.
Yeah, likewise, my friend.
Tell me about your business.
Okay.
I was able to do a giveaway.
Via Reddit.
Okay.
And I was able to get rid of. I think about. Get rid of, I think, 37 units or something like that. And I've been slowly getting reviews.
Good.
So I think I'm up to, like, 13.
That's fantastic. That's a huge jump from last time.
Yeah. Yeah, definitely.
What about real sales?
Since then, I've had one real sale, which is kind of surprising. I'm not even sure where that came from because I. I stopped doing the Facebook ads and the Amazon ads. So somewhere in there, someone.
I wanted to see, or.
I think while I was simultaneously doing the Facebook ads, I needed to kill.
One of my promotions to see where exactly.
Some traffic was coming from or whatever. But I was planning on starting up the ads again, like, today.
Cool. Send me your listing. I'd like to take a look at it. And there's any edits that need to be made for conversions, because I think you should be making more than one real sale at this point.
Okay.
I've got a really high bsn. Like, it's. I think last night when I checked it, it was like, 121,000.
Yeah. Okay. I'm not surprised. But what about.
What about ranking for keywords?
Oh, ranking for keywords.
I haven't checked that in a while. In a few days, to be honest with you.
You're In a pretty big market.
Yeah.
So it would probably be best for you to target us. Like a smaller keyword.
Okay.
Just so there's something flowing through there.
Okay.
A smaller keyword. Like.
Like, like a longer tail keyword.
Okay. Okay, gotcha, gotcha. All right, good.
Longer tail, a small keyword. Volume wise. A big keyword, words wise.
Okay.
All right.
What do you think we can do this week in order to get you to a level where you're making more sales regularly?
One thing you can do this week.
One thing I can do.
I'm honestly not sure how effective.
A.
Press release would work, which is why I haven't tried it yet. So I guess I could try doing that.
Okay, you could try it. I think there's other things that are more high leverage than that.
Okay.
Other people on the call. What do you think Jesse's one thing is?
Thought it was Saturday. I didn't think I'd answer questions.
Jesse, until you're at 50 reviews, your 1 thing is getting reviews.
Okay.
That I can do. That I can definitely work on for sure.
I mean, it is your only job right now to get reviews.
Alright, well, I got a 14 hour drive to Austin, so going to be on the phone then.
Good, good. You know what else? Here's a little hack for you. If you know the people who bought, send them a video. Hey. Hey, guys, this is Jesse James Ayers. I'm sorry, I know I'm not nearly as handsome as Jesse James Ayers. I know. This is Jesse James Ayers. Hey, I want to know how that product issue worked out for you this week. If you got it and it's working out for you, do me a favor and go on Amazon and leave a review. Okay, that really helped me out. Thanks. Peace and love. Also, Skyler says hi. Alright, let's do that.
Okay, that's cool. Video. Okay.
Until you are at 50 reviews, you have one job.
Get reviews.
Yes. And that goes for all of you. Until you are at 50 reviews, you have one thing to do and it is get reviews.
Now, there's several things you can do under that umbrella, but that is the only focus of yours, is getting reviews. Because those are going to help your conversions and those are going to help you rank.
Okay?
If you've got zero reviews, doing things like YouTube videos and press releases are very immaterial at that point. All right? There is one exception.
For everybody and that is if you have some sort. If you can have a killer YouTube video that demonstrates your product that actually can do really well. People who have had Some sort of demonstratable product. That's like. I had a friend who sold iPhone repair kits and so he had a video on YouTube that was how to repair an iPhone. And so he videotaped himself repairing his iPhone with this kit that he sold. And that was a multi six figure business. And the only promotion he ever did was that YouTube video because it got millions of views. So that is the only exception. If you have something that you can demonstrate with your product.
Then go make YouTube videos that solve a problem. But otherwise for all of you, just focus on getting reviews.
Cool.
Will do.
And Ryan, are the reviews weighted any differently in Amazon on whether you discount the product, give it away or sell it at full price?
My understanding is that reviews are reviews. There's no weight to them. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding. There is, however, weight to purchases. So if your conversions are high because you did a giveaway, it's not as doesn't hold as much weight as if you did a. If you sold a bunch of products.
And they bought through a keyword. So if you tell a bunch of people here's a coupon code to get it free, that will have an impact on your ranking, but not as effective as if they bought it at full price.
But the reviews, as far as I know, still hold the same impact. And the real important thing with reviews is social proof to get people to buy. And people who look at reviews don't know if somebody got a coupon or not. That is the real reason why you need reviews.
Make you sensey. Makes sense. Cool.
Okay, now say I give 50 units away and say I get all 50 reviews but I have like no organic sales or whatever. Is that gonna look bad on Amazon's part? Because I know you were saying, I think for one of yours that you had maybe 100 and some sales and 50 reviews and you were really pursuing them. I don't know if you called them or something. I think.
Is that bad or good to have such a high converting review rate?
I guess.
I don't know yet. I don't know yet.
I have one product where I think I have a total of five products now between my two businesses and.
We have one product that has gotten a very high percentage and it is struggling to rank. It's had the fastest momentum, but I don't know, it could be a variety of other factors as well.
Amazon says it's totally kosher, totally cool to give away stuff and collect reviews. They're totally cool with that. So I don't think it's a problem. And if I were to say otherwise, I'd just be speculating at that point.
Okay.
Chances are, as you're collecting reviews, you start getting real sales there at the same time.
Yeah, because people don't review right away. It takes them forever to finally get the time to do it.
Exactly. Exactly.
Go ahead, Jordan.
Do you give them. I mean, I know you say, oh, right, Honest, unbiased. Do you kind of say, like, say, I don't know, talk about how you use it, or do you just kind of let them say, oh, just write a review and let them kind of determine what they want? Or do you kind of give them, like, you know, like, I don't know, an example of how they use it or how it's better than a different product? Do you tell them anything like that or just kind of leave it open range?
I leave it mostly open Reign. But we do have to specify that the product can't be just about something like customer service or shipping. Otherwise, Amazon will say that it's not a real product review. It's actually seller feedback. That's the only thing, is that it has to mention the product rather than the seller or shipping or something like that.
Mr. Todd.
Hey, I can actually hear you.
How's business? Mime it for us.
Oh, tell me you can hear me, right?
I'm sad. What's that? Todd? Your mouth is moving, but we can't hear you. What?
Are you serious?
Yeah. I mean, what? Yeah, I'm totally serious. Your mouth is moving, but we can't hear what you're saying.
You are lying to me.
I'm not a liar. I'm just trying to help.
We can't hear. No one can hear you. You just have to type.
Jordan, you'll be straight with me. Come on.
I'm being straight with you. You're just going to use the chat box the whole time? We can't hear you.
I didn't mute you.
So here's my update.
All right, Are you ready? I'm ready, but it's gonna be hard since we can't hear you.
Could you just shut up so I can talk?
Come on, man. Okay, I'll shut up so that we can listen to your silence.
Okay.
All right, man. So, yeah, it's been a crazy week and something here. Stuff started picking up pretty fast for us just as we were getting low on inventory. So I pretty much spent the last week trying to slow everything down.
And not make sales. I'm down to like, 10 units right now. I've got another hundred Coming in. But it's. Yeah, I turned off ads. I've turned off everything and raised the price and.
Stuff is still coming in. Here's the really. I gotta make sure I get this in. This is the really weird thing that I'm finding with my product. At 22, anything and below, 22 point, whatever and below, the thing sells like hotcakes. At 23 and up. It's kind of a trickle for the most part. It's. I mean, that's. That's my breaking point. 22 to $23 is like night and day difference. I mean, just this morning, I dropped the price down, back down to $22.90. Just, you know, I got to make sure that this thing is still going to sell, so I have to test it every once in a while, even though I'm trying to be careful. So I dropped it down to $22.90 this morning after having it above that for days, and I got three sales within an hour. So I got to raise the price back up again to not go out of inventory.
So it's an interesting little phenomenon. I wasn't expecting it to be so cut and dry with that pricing, but that's what I'm finding so far.
That will change when you get a lot of reviews, and that will change when you get this little magical thing that Amazon does, and it's a little blessing from heaven and it slap a best seller tag on the product. When you get that magical little bestseller tag, then you can raise the price.
But you know what? In the meantime, at 22.90, that puts me about, like 47, 48% profit margin still. So I'm doing good at that price, and I'll sell there as long as I have to really get established and get a foothold and then figure it out from there.
How many have you sold total?
Well, not counting the 20 giveaway items, I think we're at about 45 to 48 units right now.
Awesome. Everybody high five. Yeah.
We've had six sale days.
Leslie had a couple of six sale days. We're seeing conversion rates.
Hey. All right. There we go.
So, yeah, I mean, our conversion rates are great. We're doing, like, when I get my price down to that 22 and below, we're doing 15 to 20% conversions on a regular basis. So.
I've actually been aside as high as 22. I think that woke Zach's children.
What?
Todd. Todd's excitement is waking. Zach's children.
Sorry, my bad.
No, no, they're. They're up they're up and awake.
Right.
It's waking me up. I'm still half asleep right now.
Well, Todd, congratulations, my man.
Good to.
Congratulations. You gotta be excited as hell.
I am, man. I am ready to just kill this thing and get out of a job as quickly as possible.
You had, you only ordered like a few minutes to start, right? 100 units?
No, man, I only did. I only started with.
51 units, 24 giveaway and. And 30 to send to FBA and then I did an additional 30. I've only sent 60 units so far and I've got a hundred on their way right now, so.
Wow.
And I'm gonna very, very quickly put in another 50 right after that.
How about another like 200? 500?
I would love to, but man, I don't have the cash to put into that.
Right, you're rolling it in slowly.
Yes, exactly.
Gotta build, gotta build.
Okay, cool. Well, congratulations, my man. Thank you. That's awesome. Chris. Well, first of all. Sorry, pause. Todd, what's your one thing this week?
Well, it's to get more reviews, of course.
Oh, okay, good.
I've only got 15 on there right now.
Okay, good.
Chris?
Yep.
How's biz?
It's going, it's moving. It's just not as fast as I'd like it to be.
Okay, tell us more.
I don't know exact number, but probably got 70ish or so sales. We made 100. Not the 100k. We made the 1k mark.
But right now I'm kind of working on. I was playing a little bit with the Facebook ads, but I really need to get my page converting better. It's only converting at about 4 to 6%.
So that's what I've been working on. So last night I changed up the description and resubmitted that. So we'll see how that goes today. But I think that's what I need to focus on is getting that conversion rate up. Because otherwise based on the session count and the traffic to go onto the page, it's. If we were converting at 10%, that'd be making 5, 10 sales a day, easy. So that's my main focus now.
Cool. Two questions for you or two ideas for you. First of all, your facial scruff looks hot.
Second of all, emulating the master here, I think.
Second of all, have you thought of changing your primary image on your listing?
I haven't, haven't tried that yet. It's basically just a bottle shot.
Okay. Adding high quality images, high def images or more images, or just changing up the images can play a big role in conversions as well. Right.
I mean, thought the images look fairly decent. I've got a couple that are use photos like how you can use the product and then the rest are just kind of your typical vital shots, label shots, stuff like that.
Sounds like you have a good handle on it. I did the same thing when we wanted to bump conversions. We changed the description and the headline and after a few headlines and two descriptions, we found something that was working where we needed it to be.
Yeah.
Did you ever make. Well, yeah, I heard the part about your fish oil story, but did you ever find something that was converting better.
With that, with fish oil? Yeah.
You said you were going to change up the. The description from Norway and all that stuff.
Yeah, we did change it and it did work. Did you hear the fish oil story or did you. Come on.
I didn't hear the fish oil story.
I didn't hear it.
Fish oil story is one of our reviews said, I like this fish oil because fish oil prevents cancer. And so Amazon flagged the listing as a cancer preventative. So we're. Or we've been like 24 hours away for six days, but we're just waiting for Amazon to say, okay, we see that it was. We see that we overreacted.
Crap. Yeah, but that's the fish oil story.
So I could tell you. I would love to tell you how it's impacted conversions, Chris, and I will tell you as soon as I no longer need to send in FDA approval for my cancer cure.
So you're at what, like the three to five a day level?
Yeah, roughly at three, four or so. Some days just are kind of duds. But yeah, it's been for the last week or so, it's been three, four sales a day. Which, which is great, but I want more.
Yeah, sure. How many reviews do you have at this point?
I've got 15. And that was kind of a flop too. I tried to do that 20 unit giveaway. Only 12 people actually bought the free giveaway. And then I only got one review out of that whole deal.
Interesting.
Just sent an email a few days ago, kind of reminding them and asking for the review. Only one person responded.
Keep following up because some people don't open the bottle, some people don't go to yoga that week.
Some people got sick. Some people, whatever it is, they always have an excuse about why they haven't used the product. People who buy a product who spend money are usually more likely to leave a review than a freebie anyway, unless you know them. Because it's just like, why are all of you making money? Why is every single person on this call making money? 100% attendance rate is making money because you spent four grand on a product rather than four bucks.
It's the same thing.
With a product. If you spend $100 on Blue Widget, you're more likely to use it than if you got it for free.
So just keep following up with them. Just keep on following up.
Yeah, I think I'm still right in the Verge, and there's a couple of bigger keywords that I'm sitting on the middle of. Second page right now. So I just want to get that boost to that first page and see what happens. But I've really got to get that page converting better.
Otherwise.
Call friends and family and ask if they'll buy a bottle.
Right. I did that for my first round. Actually, the one person from that giveaway that left a review is my only non friend or family review.
Is your non what review?
Only non friend or family review.
Okay.
She left a really great review. It's only to be a repeat customer, which is good, but, yeah, I got to get the rest of the people starting to review that thing.
Have you called your customers?
I haven't, no.
Okay. You'll see a big response if you start calling them or if you have someone else call them. And our conversations go like this. Hi, is this Barney? Hi, Barney. I love your TV show. Hey, I was just calling to see if you got your product from Amazon that you ordered last week. Oh, you did? Great. Okay. Have you tried singing your theme song with it yet? Oh, you have?
What's your experience been. Oh, great. I'm glad you're scaring even more children. Tell you what, I would appreciate it. Could you just go to Amazon and leave me a review? Oh, that'd be great. Thanks so much. I'm going to tell all my friends to watch your show. Okay, Keep on imagining.
That's the conversation. It's two minutes. It's, did you get it on time? Because you want yeses. You want people to say yes. Did you get it? Have you used it? Will you leave me a review? That's the script for all of our products. Did you get it? Because it's always yes. If they bought from FBA and you call them 10 days after it shipped, they got it. Did you get it? Have you opened it? Did you use it? What you think? Leave a review and that conversation, that will triple your review percentage.
Ryan, do you offer them a coupon code or anything?
Yes.
In the yoga space, we're finding it to not be as effective because they don't reorder as often.
We're working on getting a second product.
As soon as possible because we want to be able to give a discount on that.
Because it's not like, oh, great, I love your mat so much. I'm going to order another one in case I lose this. I wish that was the case, but unfortunately it's not.
So, yeah, we'll say.
The conversation is, hey, tell you what, Just for letting me know that you got the product, I'd like to give you a $5 off coupon on a future order. Is that cool? Yeah, sure. Okay, great. I'm going to ship this over to you. And by the way, it would really help me out if you would leave a review. Is it okay if I include the link to leave a review in that email?
And now you've given them something and they feel like they owe it to you to leave a review. You're being cool by saying, hey, thanks for talking to me. Can I give you $5 off a future order? They're like, yeah, sure, that's cool.
Okay, great.
I'm also going to.
Leave you a link to leave a review. I got to plug you all in.
Does that make sense, Zach?
Yeah, that makes sense.
Cool. Are you coming in on Thursday?
Yeah, I'll be there.
Cool. When do you arrive?
Like, three or so, I think.
Perfect. Perfect.
We have dinner reservations. Friday, everybody.
Where are we eating?
We're eating at a place that's like four blocks from the restaurant called the Russian House. They made a private reservation there. Cool. Actually, we're going to Whataburger.
That's what's up. That works, too.
And I hope you don't mind, I invited Barney.
Hugs from Barney Zachary.
Yeah. Besides marrying beautiful women, popping out children.
Yes.
Tell us all. You were in the lead for most sales in the tribe last we all chatted.
Oh, yeah.
Well, it's still going pretty well. Selling every day ranging from.
Like 11 right now to my highest day has been 26.
So.
Hot damn.
Yeah. Yeah.
Nice.
I need the. I can still have room. I still have room to get my conversion rate up, too, I believe, because.
Well, maybe. You talked about this earlier before I got on the call. Did you give a target rate of what we should be converting at?
I did not, but in my experience.
I've been able to get all of my listings to convert at 12% or higher.
Really? Okay. Yeah, it bounces around a lot from day to day for me, anywhere from like 4% to around 11 or 12%, but it's usually in like the single digits. Conversion rate for sure. Okay, so what you were saying about reviews is good for me. I need to get more reviews. I think I only have like 10 right now.
But I think what really gave me a big boost was last week.
I got to number one on Google for the main keyword. So.
That sent a big boost of traffic. And then sales came from that.
Make sure you get that badge.
Yeah. Oh, wait, there's a badge for Google ranking.
Oh, you said Google.
Yeah, yeah, it's Google ranking. Yeah. I'm on the first page for in Amazon for main keyword ranking, but I went from the bottom of the first page to number eight right now.
For that. I think that's why sales have really increased over the past week.
I guess my main focus should be reviews for that product. And I'm also in the process of launching my second and hopefully my third very quickly.
Excellent.
So, yeah, trying to move forward.
What a great product idea you had, Zach. Nice work.
Well, I mean, I jumped on what is hot, basically.
That is good.
How did you get to number one on Google? Because that's a huge point of leverage for a lot of people.
Yeah.
I think I talked about it at some point or posted a link to marketing one on one. I just use them. I use them for my SEO clients as well. I just buy links from them.
And so I bought a package, like, I don't know, a month and a half might have been two months ago by now, and bought. They just did the link building for me. And then I also. I also have my own small blog network that has some decently high PageRank sites on it. And I added the links, like 10 links from those blogs to my Amazon listing as well. And that's all I've done. It popped up really fast for some of the minor keywords. And then it would bounce around from being at the bottom of the first page to the 20th page on Google for the main keyword. It did that for about a month, and then all of a sudden, just last week, it's popped up and stabilized and hasn't moved from like number one or number two spot.
I'm looking at it right now, and you are number one. That's a huge keyword.
Yeah. Yeah. So I figured that's why I want to launch another product so quickly is because, I mean, getting reviews and climbing on the Amazon rankings may take a while, but it seems like I can get to the top of Google very quickly. So I can at least get a big influx of traffic that way without a whole lot of work or time or money invested in it.
This is fantastic. I'm so excited for you right now.
Thanks. Yeah, I'm excited, too.
When did you hit number one.
Last week?
Might have been like, Friday or. No, it was after that. It was like Saturday or Sunday, I think.
Okay. And that's when you saw a big jump, right?
Yeah, yeah, I saw a jump with that, and then that boosted me because I got a bunch of sales, and I think that pushed me up further in the rankings and then more traffic and more sales. But I wish I could have better consistency right now. Maybe you'll tell me this is just how it is, but, I mean, like I said, it's ranging from anywhere right now. Like, a low day is like 10 or 11 sales, and a high day is 20, 22, 26, something around there.
What I found is you always have that until you get the number one best seller tag, when you get that thing's level off at.
The higher end of that spectrum. But you'll see, at least in my experience, that you'll see it kind of go up. And your sales will still have high and low days, but they just keep going up. Your highs are higher and your lowers are higher.
But when you get that Number 1 Best Seller tab and you stop growing in the rankings, that's when things kind of level off.
And you're probably pretty close to that. Let's see, where do you rank?
Okay, big teaching point. Big teaching point. Zach's about to have a huge bump in conversions, everybody. I'm looking at your listing right now, Zach.
Oh, what did I do wrong?
Well, no, no, you didn't do anything wrong. You're just missing a big opportunity.
Okay?
Right now you're ranked 6,000 in health and personal care.
You don't have a second category, like a subcategory.
Your subcategory. For example, our yoga mats were like 4,000 in.
Sports equipment, but we're number 20 in the.
Subcategory of yoga mats.
Stay with me here. One day, I was looking at my first product.
And we were like, number 2000 or 4000 or whatever in sports and nutrition or whatever it is. And we looked at one of our competitors. I'm talking about this on stage. So everybody lean in.
We looked at one of our competitors, and we're like, that's interesting. They have this subcategory for nitric oxide. We're a nitric oxide. We went in and we emailed Amazon and We said we need to get into the category of nitric oxide supplements rather than the sports and nutrition or whatever it was. It's a subcategory. They put us into this category that only had, like, nine people in it. A week later, we were the number one nitric oxide supplement on Amazon without changing a thing. And we got a number one best seller tag slapped on our listing, and business exploded. Wow.
You are probably the number one product in your space.
But you need to email Amazon and tell them to put you in the subcategory of your product name.
Oh, there's a subcategory for that?
If there's not, there's about to be.
Why do you assume I'm number one in my space?
Because you already ranked, like, number three for your main keyword, right?
No, I just typed it in. Amazon, right now I'm number six.
I just typed it in. You show up as number three for me. Okay.
But either way, let me look at some of the other listings. You're already showing near the top.
And you rank number one on Google, so you're getting probably double the traffic. And being on page one, the guy ranking number one, his average reviews are three stars, right? Okay, so get this. This guy ranking number one, he has two subcategories, right? He's probably an asmer. He's got two subcategories.
Sugar substitutes, he's number 76. And detox, he's number 29. So find a subcategory where you can rank really well.
Okay, right now you have zero.
So, Ryan, does it matter how big that subcategory is?
You want it to be small and you want it to be specific to your product.
So then I have to email them and ask to be placed into a second category?
Correct.
Okay.
How does that affect the placement in other categories, then? It's not taking you out of the main category. It's just kind of highlighting you for another category.
You're not being moved. You're being added to a subcategory.
I'm looking at your competitors, Zach, and most of them are doing this.
And you're probably not all of them. It looks like about half are doing this, but you are probably the number one.
In your specific product. But I don't see the specific product.
As a subcategory. So you might want to go with sugar substitutes.
Some people are using Detox and cleanse. I think that's silly. I don't know. That's very irrelevant. I'd go with sugar substitute.
To find these, you just Kind of drill down into the categories until you find one that you are top four.
Just look at your category, at your competition, because they're all listed, and most of them are listed in subcategory. And that's how we discovered it. We were like, what is this nitric oxide category that keeps showing up?
We just emailed Amazon. We're like, how do we get in here? They put us in a week later. We were number one.
Which means right away we were number two. So we were already number two. And then we just hustled for a week, got number one, and then it was a whole new level.
So essentially, that bestseller ranked badge shows on your listing, no matter where you are showing up for whatever search term.
Correct. So if you show up number three, it'll say number one, best seller next to your name. Have you guys seen that tab?
Badass. It's major social proof.
And you want it.
I want it.
Yeah, you do.
That's what your wife be saying after she saw that facial scruff on you.
Okay, well, cool. I'll definitely do that.
Good.
Hey, Ryan, I got a question for you about that.
Go ahead. But I can't hear you.
Hear me? No, I can't hear you at all, Todd.
Oh, man. So you said before that when you guys were looking at the subcategories you saw, you said, hey, there's only nine people in this. In this little niche that we want to go after. Is there an easy way to tell how many people. How many competitors are in any specific subcategory you're looking at?
From me reading your list, I think you're asking about how many people are in a subcategory. And no, not. You can't tell for sure except by looking at your competitors and where they rank. For example, I was just looking at Zach's, and the person ranking the lowest was ranked number 76. So we know that somebody not selling that well is about 76. So there's probably less than 100 listed in that category. So we can ballpark it with ours. There were only, like 25 total people selling that product, and the person lowest in that category was, like, number nine. So we knew that there was like 10, 10 or so people in that category. So immediately we were number two. So you can't. You don't know for sure, but you can ballpark it based on the people who are not ranking well and where. Where they're ranking. Did that make sense?
Sort of. Okay.
How are you looking?
How are you actually.
Seeing the people? How do you know which people specifically to look at to.
See how they're ranking. How are you searching for them is what I'm saying.
I'm just searching them for them by the keywords that I'm ranking for.
If we rank for Hot Yoga Mat and we want to see the subcategories that people are in, I'm just clicking on the other people ranking for that keyword and looking at their catalyst. And it just so happens that the competitors I found, the lowest one is 54. So, okay, he's not selling that many because he's the lowest, because I know how many I'm selling. And so there's probably 75 or so people total in that category. And the lowest guy is 54. The guy highest is whatever. And you can kind of ballpark it, but there's no way to know exactly.
Okay, that's cool.
So, Zach, that's a huge point of leverage for you. You'll see a bump majorly if you do that. For the rest of you, write down what Zach is talking about, SEO.
That is outside of Amazon ranking on Amazon, I think that's your highest point of leverage.
Now, I'm wondering with that, I also did a smaller version of the package. He did, but then after that I changed my title. So now all those links are going to a different title. Is that going to have very little effect or is it just not as much of an effect?
Zach, have you changed your title at all?
I think I have, but I bet you could just test it by just.
Grab the URL that you gave to them for the link building and just.
Go to that URL on Google. I'm assuming Amazon automatically 301 redirects. It does to the new listing. So as long as it's being redirected, it's not going to hurt anything.
Ok, it is being redirected. It's just not the same link anymore. And the one that Google indexes now is the new current version of the link, rather than the one that has all the links pointing to it or the backlinks pointing to it.
That's fine. Google still recognizes that those links are. Or that URL has changed and moved. So it's recognizing all the links.
That started going to the old one. Now they're being redirected to the new one. It's fine.
How about how many backlinks do you have to it do you know, I.
Can find out real quick. That might be something good to. No.
Sean, are we doing this?
No, we're not. And I would like to actually, if you could. Sorry, I was talking to Michelle for a second. I was looking at the link that you gave us. Zach.
Do you have a suggestion as to which package to go with?
I just got the top package.
Which.
Is like 150 bucks with a. I think I posted a coupon code that you guys can use for 20% off.
The top. The backlink package?
Yeah, the top package. But I don't know. Chris had emailed me because he said he bought that, but then they gave him a different one.
That they used specifically for Amazon listings.
So I don't know what they're actually doing. They never said anything about that to me. I thought. I think I just got the regular top package, so I don't know. You can always. I know the guy. I mean, I know him just because I order a lot from him. The guy who runs that company. He's very helpful. You can always just talk to him and ask him what he would recommend for an Amazon page. Amazon listings.
This is strange. According to Ares.com, i have two backlinks. So I don't think that's quite right, though.
It must be. Must be a PR10 backlinks there.
Yeah, I wish.
So to answer your question, Ryan, no, we're not. But if that sounds good to you, I'll. I'll get that package this weekend.
Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
That way when we get product in, we'll be all ready to go.
I use a service called Posi Rank, which is.
Oh, yeah, I know that.
The same thing. You know posirank?
Yeah, well, yeah, I think I use them a little bit, but I never actually. I'm on the guy's email list, so I always hear about them.
Alex. Yeah, he's a dear friend of mine. He actually may be at the conference.
But I am.
I'm looking into my pizyrank account right now. We have not seen that. I've used this for the Solomon Company. We have not seen the same results.
That Zach saw. I. Gordon. Certainly not number one. And Zach's got a pretty nice keyword, but I'm looking now to see if I'm missing anything. But we did not see. See the same results.
So I'd be. I would probably go with.
This company that.
Right now. I mean, as far as SEO goes, high PR links are still what's working really well. So even if you. I mean, because I got that package and then I also. Like I said, I also use some of my own blog links, so it's hard for me to distinguish exactly what is causing the big rank. But I think.
My intuition tells me it's the marketing one on one package rather than my, my own links because I have those pointing to other sites as well that don't. That I haven't seen as big of a jump in ranking. But any, any kind of high PR links, whether it's from, you know, real quality content or not, it doesn't matter right now, especially if you're going to Amazon page.
What they did for me was just basically create a ton, thousands of links to that Amazon listing. And so looking at the links are really crummy, just spammy looking links, but I don't know if it works.
Are you tracking the ranking for the keywords? Have you seen anything?
I haven't seen anything show up yet. They're still all other competitors and some of them seem like they should have been easier to outrank just because they only had 60 to 100 backlinks to them at least that were showing up in ahrefs. I had checked mine.
And through that site there was like 4,000 backlinks. And then I checked with Majestic SEO yesterday and there's like 11,000 plus backlinks to it.
But so far none of the five keywords that I was targeting have shown up anywhere on Google yet.
Not within any of the top 20 pages.
I haven't gone through all the pages, but you know, usually for the most part, Google picks the top Amazon listing and displays that one, so you gotta beat that one in order to show up there.
At least that's what I've seen.
Hmm. Okay, I lied. It looks like we are bouncing around a lot on Google.
Well, this is weird because our.
Oh, this is interesting. Our posi Rank account is saying that we rank, but I don't see them actually ranking.
Very interesting.
Anyway, huge point of leverage ranking on Google.
So I'm curious too, Zach, would you suggest doing another package like that if you're not ranking quite yet? Or what do you think?
How long ago did it finish up for you?
It's probably only been a few weeks. I'm not positive, but yeah, not that long yet.
Yeah, I'd wait about a month and then reassess it.
And then maybe I would try. Yeah, maybe I would try again with another. With another package.
Yeah, I don't have any other. I'm trying to think of other suggestions, but I mean with SEO it's such a.
Google's a really fickle beast as it is. Just because something works really well once doesn't. I mean, I see weird stuff happen all the time, but the bottom line is you just have to keep throwing links at it until something, until you see something pop. Basically.
Google's like a girl.
Yeah.
Kind of girl.
Okay, well we've hit everybody. Does anybody have any general questions for the group?
I guess, I don't know, maybe notice it or not, but I'm playing with the Facebook ads, but I can't track like the actual sale on Amazon because I'm in a state that Amazon dropped for affiliate program. Is there any way that anyone knows of tracking that sale on Amazon?
Would you say. Again your question? Tracking the sale. Right.
So essentially if I'm testing Facebook ads, I want to find out which one converts the most as far as sales, which one leads most sales. And usually you can use the Amazon affiliate program to track the sales on Amazon, but I can't do that, unfortunately.
If, unless if there is a way to do this, I don't know of it and I wish there was.
Do we have any control over a page that a customer sees after they purchase? Like even if it's in a. I mean. Well, we can send a follow up email, right? Because I've gotten those before after a sale, right?
Yes.
So the only way that I think you could do tracking then if you can't use Amazon Affiliate would be to have a page that they could view.
You have to give them some reason to visit this page, put a link to it in the follow up email, and then you can use link tracking scripts so that you use a special link that redirects them to your Amazon page and that link is what you use in Facebook. And then you place a cookie on that landing page that you bring them to after they purchase. So then if they click that link anytime within the past 30 days and then at some point 30 days later they view that page in the follow up email, the cookie will fire and it will be registered as a sale.
I have a couple of different click tracking scripts that I use. One's called AdTracks Gold.
Well, we don't have any access to that thank you page, do we?
No, no, that's what I'm saying. You'd have to put a like in the follow up email that you write. Then you'd have to include a link to another page, like, I don't know.
Maybe you could post a coupon code or a discount or some sort of something on this page of your website and then that's where you could put the tracking, the tracking code. I think that would be the only option for us to track sales like that. If we can't use Amazon affiliate or if you can't use the Amazon affiliate.
You can't have any external links in any of those follow up emails through the Amazon system.
Oh, you can't then. Right?
Only Amazon links. And so I don't know if there's any other programs. There used to be like the Vigilinks and skim links that would, you would go through their program and then you can still be part of Amazon affiliates but Amazon cracked down on those two sites and blocked them from allowing that. So I don't know of any other programs that allow access to Amazon affiliate program indirectly like that.
I'm surprised.
Did we just lose Zach? Did he go Todd on us?
Uh oh, now we can hear you.
Now we can hear you.
Okay. I was just saying I'm surprised that Amazon doesn't have their own like tracking system for.
Right. I was kind of surprised.
Yeah. Because they know people drive a lot of traffic from outside of Amazon. Makes sense.
I want to talk to people who are watching.
Aaron too. Noah.
Who all is coming to Austin this week. Just post it when this comment goes live on Google hangouts in about 90 seconds because of the long delay. Post it in the comments on the Google Hangout page, please. Zach and I are coming. Todd, Sean, Jesse, Chris, are you coming?
Yep.
Unfortunately not coming in until 6:30 that night. But that's okay.
That's okay. We'll be in the room until 8 or 9. This is the way that you'll find it. We'll have a room reserved for the tribe.
I'll find the room number and email it out after I talk to the front desk. Or you can just go to the front desk and say I'm here for the meeting called the tribe. Can you tell me where it is? Just go to the front desk, check in, put your stuff in your hotel room and then come down to the room. There'll be snacks and waters and stuff in the hotel room.
I'm probably going to invite some successful business friends here in Austin for you guys to meet and see if they can come. We can have a really good meet up there.
What'd you say?
Kbj? K Bug J?
Kvj.
Sure.
And then we'll.
We can hang out that night. We walk around downtown. Hang out as long as you want. Then we go to dinner Friday.
Sweet.
And I speak Friday. I think I'm one of the first people. So I need you guys to be loud and obnoxious.
Done. Cool. Cool. Jordan, at least watch the live feed. Jordan, Leslie, since you can't make it, at least watch some of the live feed.
I definitely will do that.
And yell really loud from your house when I say, where's my tribe at?
There's gonna be. There's gonna be a thousand people there and about 500 watching on the live feed, so it is gonna be nuts.
Are you nervous?
I'm starting to get now. Up until now, I've just been excited.
If you like attention like I do, you really like the stage.
And so.
I can't wait. I can't wait to be on stage and crack some jokes and hear which ones make a thousand. I've never spoken to a thousand people. I can't wait. But I'm starting to get a little bit nervous because it is 1,000 people, but I think it's going to go over really well. My last public speaking gig was to about 50 people, and it went over really well. But this is a bit of a new level, but I'm very excited.
Awesome.
Can't wait.
You guys know everything that I'll be talking about, because I'll be talking about the launch strategy. I'll be talking about the number one bestseller tag. I'll be talking about calling our customers. Those are really the three points of leverage that we've done differently than most people. Most people don't do those things, and we did them, and they had a big impact on our results. Those are really the three main points. You guys know all of it because we've been talking about it for 10 weeks now. But I think it'll be really good for the 950 other people.
All our competitors.
Right.
Hey, guys, tell me this. Is there anything that we've gone over together that has been really helpful for you over the last 10 weeks or so that you're like, wow, that one tip that you gave me was out of this world. Awesome. Because I want to give a really good presentation.
Crickets. Right? You haven't helped me at all. I'm only making 25 sales a day.
I.
You know what? I make 25 sales a day.
Okay. Yeah.
Well, the calling people for reviews is really good, although I haven't implemented that. That's something that I know I'm going to do soon, and that's huge.
Sean, what do you think the greatest points of leverage have been.
For us?
I think.
A lot of our success came from the momentum off the bat. So for us, I think the Facebook community really helped our sales. At the beginning. I was actually just reading an article.
Somewhere. I don't remember on the Internet it was just an opinion. But this person thought that after a certain amount of sales per day, Amazon starts to see it as like a moot point. So if you sell like 10, then 10, then 10 then 10,000, they're not going to see that 10,000 sales because it doesn't fit within their, you know, they're, I don't know the trend. So I think for us having that good amount off the bat, Amazon saw consistently high sales which helped us move up the ranks. I mean we were like page nothing to page what I think three in the three months.
But I think this, this group, I mean a lot of the stuff that other people have brought up, like registering our brand on Amazon was a pretty cool suggestion. I don't think it really helped at all. But it's nice to know that now, at least in Amazon's eyes, that product is ours.
One thing I noticed with that helping, I registered my brand as well. And now I'm able to change description bullet points that will at least so far before I had to always go through Amazon.
I can't.
You still can't?
No, I can't. That's killing me.
Yeah, I don't think we ever had a problem with that even before we registered. I don't know if it's something with the product or maybe the space isn't as competitive and they kind of let you do more. But whenever we needed to make changes it always kind of just happened.
Jerks.
We can't hear you.
Maybe Amazon can't hear you either.
Alright guys, well we'll see most of you including Aaron who commented on the on the Hangout page. We'll see most of you on Thursday.
Cool.
Yeehaw.
Doing this in person.
What's that, Chris?
I was just saying it's crazy. It's already here. It just flew by.
Definitely.
Well congratulations to the four of you who have product have all made sales which is pretty exciting.
To have 100% of people who followed through. To have made a sale is pretty cool.
Jesse, we gotta work together a little bit to get your, to get those real sales up.
Yes sir.
You're in a competitive market, so.
Big pie.
Yeah, yeah. I just emailed you.
My Amazon list.
Okay.
All right, great.
Got it.
And Chris, just so you know, you are at that, that breaking point that it was for me where that 3 to 5 range was like once I pushed through that, that's when I really started to see growth.
Right.
That's what it feels like to me. It feels like I'M right on the verge of, you know, something, something big here. If I can get to that first page and get it converting well, then it's going to be a big jump, I think.
Yes.
And Todd, you are kicking butt. Your only problem is you can't keep inventory fast enough. So congratulations my friend. Doing three sales in an hour at that price point. So congratulations on your success. And Zach, you still take the cake on most tried the Mersey most sales for a tribe member. You get the number one bestseller tab. If I had a bestseller tag.
I would give it to you. If I could invent an ASM badge.
For tribe Bestseller, I'd wear it with honor.
Maybe I'll get a shout out from stage or something.
Hey Ryan.
Hey Ryan.
Real quick, real quick, go ahead.
Do I have to contact Amazon in a specific way to get that category change or do I just send a general message?
I believe it's just a general message to their seller help desk.
Okay. While we were talking, I just found a subcategory that I think would work. I'm looking at it in the bestseller.
The best seller format and the number one best seller is ranked higher than I am and a competitor of mine is in there. So I know that stuff can change very quickly though the ranking would you recommend if I did change, If I did get listed in that category, then maybe drive a bunch of Amazon ads to it so I can guarantee a lot of sales very quickly to keep my ranking high.
So I get that patch if you need to do a giveaway. I think we did a big push. We were trying to get that number one listing because once we got it we saw a huge spike in sales. So it was like we do giveaways and stuff just to get to number one. So we could have the listing temporarily because that would shoot up a spike in sales. And then we were getting the sales that our competitor would have gotten, which means that we're keeping the number one spot.
Right? Right.
Okay.
Okay, cool. I'll do that.
Hey Ryan.
Yeah, I was just gonna say I've. I was searching also while we were on the call here and I found a subcategory that is specifically for my product that I can't find another competitor that, that ranks.
In that subcategory at all. I've searched through couple dozen listings and I'm not saying anything so I'm hoping I can maybe hit that one pretty fast and get a huge spike.
Awesome.
Good tip.
Yeah, great tip.
Alright guys, I will see most of you Thursday at between 2 and 8 is when we're doing the mastermind. And then we'll go out if you guys want to go out afterwards. And Friday night is dinner, so I'll see you guys in a few days.
Rack up a big bill for Ryan.
For me, all right?
Oh, yeah, you got it.
As much as you want.
See you guys.
All right, guys.
Bye.
