What Is Capitalism & Why Do Celebrities Hate It?

Ryan Daniel Moran defines capitalism as voluntary trade based on private ownership and profit incentive, arguing that problems blamed on it actually come from government interference or coercion. He says the solution is personal responsibility and entrepreneurship, not more regulation.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Not one of the celebrities that I like. 6:30 in the morning. I haven't even taken my retainers out. My day is already ruined.
You know what it.
How am I supposed to do a special report when I haven't even had any coffee? Capitalism coffee, that should actually be a brand. We should do that@capitalism.com and the tagline would just be because Nazi Germany had terrible coffee. Now, I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but Mark Ruffalo already did this morning. So a quick definition. When we talk about capitalism, what are we talking about? Capitalism is simply the system that we set up to trade with one another. Somebody made this coffee and this coffee machine. Someone made something and someone else wants it. Someone else wants to use it, buy it, consume it, whatever. And capitalism is the rules in the system that we set up to define how we're going to trade with one another. And we sometimes disagree on what the rules should be, and that's okay. But the question is simply, how do we trade with one another? Now, there's some people who think we shouldn't trade with each other at all. They think that we shouldn't have any capitalism, no matter what. Human beings are always going to say, you got this thing, I got this thing. Let's get together and powwow about this. Because our goods and services have to come from somewhere. And if we're not trading them, then they either don't get made or we have to make them ourselves. Some people think that the government provides things, and that's simply not the case. Government is one of the forms in which we trade with one another. That guy has that thing. I don't have that thing, so I'm gonna elect someone to go trade it for me. If we just listen to the media, we hear why capitalism is bad. And really what we hear is all the examples in which government businesses got involved together. So two forms of trade tried to collide, and it's not working so well. In fact, I read the article that Mark Ruffalo tweeted out, and it was all about how businesses are getting in bed with politicians. And so capitalism is bad. Look, free trade isn't bad. Freedom isn't bad. None of that is bad. What is bad is when the two things come together and they conflict with one another because now no one gets what they want. We're simply forcing each other to do things. That's always bad. At the end of the day, what we are deciding is whether or not we're going to trade with one another freely, free exchange or if we're going to have force. Now, personally, just so you know my bias, I am an anti force person. I am anti war, I am anti theft, I am anti making people do anything that they do not want to do. So I'm also against the government coming in and saying what you can buy, what you can't buy, buy what someone else should sell and what someone else can't sell. Anytime there is force, I'm against it. In fact, there was a moment where this idea really changed my life. And it was when one of my economics professors in college talked about how capitalism is just the system that we're trading with one another. So if you see a group of people with a really specific need, it's an ethical, moral responsibility for you to go provide that as a business. And it's the most loving, ethical, giving thing that you could do to see a group of people who have a need for something and for you to go provide it. And the beauty of freedom is that we have a way for us to exchange. It's called dollars, it's called purchasing. And some people get rich by solving really big problems. Now there are some people who say, well, that's all fine up to a point. But there's a certain point in which capitalism breaks down. And that's right now they say, well, they're kind of right. They have a couple things right here. See, capitalism does stop if there is force involved. So sometimes businesses get really big and they start making deals with politicians. And it's really not a problem until the politician gets involved. It's not a problem until the government is now doing the bidding of the business rather than the bidding of the people. So when you've got force involved with something that should be freedom, that's where it's really bad. But this is true on the other side too. Government is bad when there is force involved. Government can be very helpful, but the minute that it comes in and forces people to do things, it becomes very bad. Force, bad. Freedom good. Capitalism requires three ideas in order to continue to do really good things. And they're allow people to own things, encourage people to create things, and incentivize people to serve one another. Anything that argues that there shouldn't be ownership, like you shouldn't own things and you shouldn't own the responsibility of your life, it's a form of anti capitalism. In fact, the reason, and I hate to use this cliche, but the reason why Adolf Hitler was able to rise to power was because Germany was really economically depressed after World War I. Hitler stood up there and said, it's not our fault, it's these people's fault, it's the rich people's fault. That's why we're all suppressed and having hard times. So Hitler was able to rise to power because he used force to blame people. So here's an irony of ironies when, when you hear people say that Donald Trump is the next Hitler, just remember that Hitler rose to power because he got people to hate on the rich. Just think about that one. So there has to be ownership. There has to be ownership over property. Your house, where you live, your stuff. You have private property rights. You should own things. That's actually how you get rich too. You should own things that put money into your pocket. Subscribe to the Channel for more on that type of content. Number two, we have to be encouraged to create things. So there has to be a system through which we are incentivized to create good stuff, create ideas, create good work, create products and services. And that's the profit motive. That's the idea that if I do something really well, you might like it, you might buy more from me. And number three, we have to have a system through which we're encouraged to serve one another. And the way that we do that is just have as much free trade as possible. Because if I know you've got something that I want, then I'm incentivized to serve you so that I am served in return. So finally, if capitalism is so great, I think so it's why I own the word on the Internet. Why do we have so much anti capitalism in the world? And it's very simply how our brains work. Our brains are made to look for problems. Your brains only see the problems in the world that you live in. So it's actually totally normal to see problems in the world and then blame something for it. It feels really good to not have to take ownership for our responsibilities and to simply blame the system or blame the. Or blame whoever we want to blame. That just doesn't change anything. If you want to create change, it starts with you. And if you see a problem, it starts with you deciding to take ownership of that problem, creating something about that problem and serving people who are suffering from that problem. We can't boil the ocean. We can only change ourselves. So if you want change, it starts with you. And capitalism is the system through which we trade with one another in order to solve those problems. We never run out of problems. We've always got more, which is why capitalism will always be the preferred system for change. Hey, thanks for watching capitalism.com this has been a special report from Ryan Daniel Moran. Subscribe to the Channel we mostly talk about business and making money because if you solve problems, I think you should get rich. I think you should make all the money that you want. And guess what? That's how you make money if you want to get rich. If you watch YouTube for content about how to make money, it's really about finding people who want something and being the person who takes ownership to create value for that group of people. And guess what? They reward you in the form of dollars. It's a beautiful system. Capitalism is like the system through which the world incentivizes us all to serve one another. So be kind to one another, be creative and operate from a place of making this world a little bit better. And then we won't have to fight so much about whether or not there should be capitalism. There should be freedom, is a really good.
